Hasan Nawaz, Shadab Khan star as Sialkot, Abbottabad reach semi-finals
Peshawar (Sports Report):Abbottabad Region and Sialkot Region booked their places in the semi-finals from Group B after registering victories on the final day of group-stage action in the ABS Developers National T20 Cup 2026 on Monday night at the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium in Peshawar.Abbottabad cruised past Lahore Region Blues by eight wickets, while Sialkot defeated Multan Region by seven wickets in what was effectively a knockout clash. Both teams finished on six points from four matches, with Sialkot topping Group B courtesy of a better net run-rate.In the semi-finals, set to be played on Tuesday, Karachi Whites will face Sialkot, while Abbottabad will go up against Lahore Whites.Sialkot and Multan locked horns in the second game of the night with a semi-final spot on the line. In the end, Sialkot held their nerve to beat Multan by seven wickets with one ball to spare in a chase of 163.Batting first, Multan lost opening batter Mohammad Naeem (4) in the fourth over with 26 runs on the board. Skipper Imam-ul-Haq then added 28 runs for the second wicket with Sameer Minhas (14, 12b, 2x4s) before the latter was dismissed in the seventh over, leaving Multan 53 for 2.Multan then lost two more wickets in quick succession and slipped to 90-4 in 11.4 overs. Imam, however, found support in Bismillah Khan (23, 12b, 3x4s, 1x6), with the pair putting together a 48-run stand to revive the innings.However, the game turned again when Bismillah and Imam fell in the space of five deliveries, triggering a collapse as Multan lost their last six wickets for 24 runs to tumble from 138 for four to 163 all out in 19.5 overs.Imam was the standout performer with the bat, striking 86 off 51 balls with 10 fours and three sixes. For Sialkot, Sufyan Moqim led the bowling effort with three for 37 in four overs, while Usama Mir (4-0-29-2) and Shoaib Akhtar Jnr (4-1-30-2) chipped in with two wickets each.In reply, Sialkot got off to a solid start as opening batters Mirza Tahir Baig (29, 35b, 4x4s) and Khawaja Arham (32, 21b, 4x4s, 1x6) stitched together a 63-run partnership in nine overs. However, both openers fell in the space of three deliveries, with Moheer Saeed (4-0-28-1) dismissing Arham and Arafat Minhas removing Tahir Baig.Arafat began his spell with a maiden sixth over before only giving away seven runs in his remaining three and finished with outstanding figures of 4-1-7-1. Hasan Nawaz then took charge of the chase, first adding 37 runs for the third wicket with Abdullah Shafique (16, 19b, 1x4) off 39 balls in a cautious effort. At the time Abdullah departed in 16th over, Sialkot needed another 64 off 25 balls with the required rate hovering above 15.The next 3.5 overs saw Hasan going from 21 off 20 to 80 not out off 40 and Sialkot nailing the semi-final berth in a spectacular manner. His barrage of boundaries included a six and a four each off 17th and 18th overs before hitting three sixes in the penultimate over and taking 23 runs off it against Sirajuddin.The 13 required off the last over, delivered by Aamer Yamin, were completed with the help of two boundaries by Hasan, a pair of doubles and a single as Sialkot got home in 19.5 overs In the first game, Lahore Region Blues batted first but were bundled out for 86 in 14.3 overs, before Abbottabad Region romped home in 8.2 overs with eight wickets in hand and 70 balls to spare.Shadab Khan led Abbottabad’s charge with the ball, returning figures of 3-0-10-3, while Shahab Khan (1.3-0-11-2) and Arshad Iqbal (3-0-30-2) chipped in with two wickets apiece. HBL PSL 11 tickets to go on sale online from Tuesday
Lahore (Staff Report):The tickets for the much-anticipated HBL PSL 11 will go on sale from Tuesday, 17 March, the Pakistan Cricket Board announced today. The tickets will be available to fans online from 12pm at pcb.tcs.com.pk (infographics attached).The sale of physical tickets at TCS Express Centres will commence from Tuesday, 24 March. More details will be shared in due course.The E-Ticket option will be partially available for Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi stadiums and will operate on a first-come, first-served basis. The upcoming edition of HBL PSL starting from 26 March will feature 44 matches with eight teams taking part in the marquee event for the first time. For the first time, six venues – Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, Peshawar’s Imran Khan Stadium, Multan Cricket Stadium, Faisalabad’s Iqbal Stadium, Karachi’s National Bank Stadium and Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium will host matches.The final of the event will be played on 3 May at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.To encourage fans to come in large numbers, General tickets in Lahore and Karachi will be available to fans from PKR 250, while fans can purchase general stand tickets for Faisalabad’s Iqbal Stadium from PKR 300. General tickets in Multan and Rawalpindi will be available from PKR 400.Also, to facilitate families to witness action in Peshawar, an enclosure has been dedicated to families at the stadium for the fixture on Saturday, 28 March between Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United. Champions Qalandars to conduct a three-day training camp in Islamabad
Abdullah AsjadISLAMABAD:Defending champions Lahore Qalandars will conduct a three-day conditioning camp at the Smart Qalandars High Performance Center in Islamabad as part of preparations for the upcoming 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League.The camp will begin today and continue until March 18, with training sessions taking place after Iftar from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM.All locally contracted players will participate in the camp alongside Zimbabwe captain and Lahore Qalandars overseas player Sikandar Raza. The camp will focus on conditioning and team preparation ahead of the new season.The squad will regroup with all local and overseas players in Lahore on March 23 after the Eid holidays as preparations shift toward the PSL opener against Hyderabad Kingsmen at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on March 26.
Sarfaraz Ahmed announces retirement from international cricket
Lahore (Staff Report):Former Test captain and ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2006 and ICC Champions Trophy 2017 winning captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing an end to a distinguished career spanning around two decades.Karachi-born wicketkeeper-batter, who made his ODI debut in 2007 before making his Test and T20I debuts in 2010, went on to represent Pakistan in 54 Tests, 117 ODIs and 61 T20Is.He scored 6,164 runs across formats, including six centuries and 35 half-centuries. Behind the stumps, he grabbed 315 catches and completed 56 stumpings during his international career.Sarfaraz captained Pakistan in 100 international matches across formats (50 ODIs, 37 T20Is, 13 Tests) and led the side to the No.1 ranking in T20I cricket. During his captaincy, Pakistan achieved a world-record streak of 11 consecutive T20I series victories and recorded six clean sweeps, which include against West Indies (2016 and 2018), Sri Lanka (2017), Australia (2018), New Zealand (2018) and Scotland (2018).Sarfaraz’ leadership era also saw the emergence of several future stars, including Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Hasan Ali, Imam-ul-Haq, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman and Shadab Khan, whom he backed at the start of their international careers.Sarfaraz Ahmed led Pakistan to historic triumph in the ICC Champions Trophy, beating India by 180 runs in the final at the Oval in England. With that victory, Sarfaraz became the first Pakistan captain to win the Champions Trophy and the only captain till date to win ICC titles at both junior and senior levels, having earlier led Pakistan to win in the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in 2006 in Sri Lanka.In recognition of his services and the Champions Trophy triumph, Sarfaraz Ahmed was awarded the Pride of Performance in 2018, becoming the youngest Pakistan captain to receive the honour.Talking about his individual records, Sarfaraz has the Pakistan record of 10 catches in a Test match, which he took against South Africa in Johannesburg 2019. He is till date only Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter to score an ODI century at Lord’s which he scored against England in 2016.Sarfaraz who played his first international match (ODI) in 2007 made his last international appearance in an international match (Test) against Australia in Perth in 2023.Sarfaraz Ahmed said:“It has been the greatest honour of my life to represent Pakistan. Wellalage, the 23-year-old left-arm orthodox spinner, joins the Qalandars alongside Sri Lanka's T20I captain Dasun Shanaka, who was picked by LQ at the first ever PSL auction. He had a productive T20 World Cup, claiming eight wickets at an economy rate of 7.22. Wellalage is also a handy lower-order batter, capable of sticking around with the tail and hitting big shots. The Qalandars are excited to welcome him to the team and look forward to his contributions in the PSL.
HBL PSL 11 Trophy unveiled in Karachi as league enters new era
Karachi (Hammad Kayani):The trophy of the HBL Pakistan Super League 11 was unveiled in a ceremony held at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi today marking the beginning of a new era for the country’s marquee T20 tournament.The unveiling ceremony was attended by HBL PSL Chief Executive Officer Salman Naseer, representatives of all eight teams, officials from title sponsor HBL, representatives of Hanif Jewellers and members of the media. The trophy designed and manufactured by Hanif Jewellers, has been handcrafted by 18 master artisans who devoted more than 2,600 hours to complete the masterpiece. The design reflects the journey and growth of the HBL Pakistan Super League over the past decade.At the base of the trophy, eight emerald-cut Gemstones represent the colours of the eight HBL PSL franchises, symbolising the pride of the cities they represent. Peshawar (SBR):Abbottabad Region and Multan Region emerged victorious against Karachi Region Blues and Lahore Region Blues, respectively, in the fourth day’s fixtures of the ABS Developers National T20 Cup 2026 at the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium in Peshawar on Tuesday night.In the first game, Kamran Ghulam’s unbeaten 42-ball 81, his second successive unbeaten half-century, and Shahzaib Khan’s 75 off 38 deliveries sealed Abbottabad’s comprehensive eight-wicket win while chasing 202 against Karachi Blues. This was Abbottabad’s second successive successful chase of a target beyond 200-run mark after they overhauled Multan’s 204-run target in their opening match. After the early loss of a wicket, Kamran and Shahzaib turned the game on its head with a 115-run stand for the second wicket off just 58 deliveries. Shahzaib brought up his third T20 half-century as he hit 11 fours and three sixes, before falling in the 12th over.Kamran, who collected consecutive player of the match awards, then joined forces with Khushdil Shah to put the result beyond doubt.
