Mohammad Ashfaq wins Pakistan Open Golf Championship After Sudden-Death Playoff

Karachi (Sports News): Mohammad Ashfaq of Airmen Golf Club emerged as the Champion of the 51st Pakistan Open Golf Championship after a dramatic sudden-death playoff.

After four intense rounds, Ashfaq and Mohammad Alam were tied at 278 (–10 under par). The playoff was contested at Hole No. 10, where both players found the fairway off the tee. Alam’s approach slightly missed the green, while Ashfaq’s second shot landed perfectly on the putting surface. Alam’s chip narrowly missed a birdie, and Ashfaq calmly holed his putt to seal victory and claim the 51st Pakistan Open Golf Championship 2025 title.

The closing moments were witnessed by a large gallery, marking a memorable finale to Pakistan’s premier professional golf event.

Tournament Leadership and Organization

The championship was directed by Malik Mohammad Kamran Awan, an R&A-certified Tournament Administrator and Referee, serving as Tournament Director. Under his leadership, the tournament was conducted in accordance with The R&A’s international rules, maintaining impeccable standards of professionalism, integrity, and technical precision.

He was supported by an experienced Tournament Committee comprising Rao Mohammad Ismail, Fayyaz Niazi, and Nadeem Iftikhar, who ensured a flawless execution of all rounds.

Chief Guest: Aameen Taqi Butt — A Legend Returns After 58 Years

The closing ceremony was graced by Aameen Taqi Butt, the first-ever winner of the Pakistan Open Golf Championship (1967) and one of Pakistan’s earliest international representatives.

Born in 1946 (aged 79), Butt’s golfing journey began at Lahore Gymkhana in 1959. Over the years, he claimed multiple national titles, including two West Pakistan Championships (1965 & 1967), and represented Pakistan in the Ceylon and Asian Golf Championships. His 1967 triumph at Lahore Gymkhana remains a cornerstone in Pakistan’s golf history.

Returning after 58 years as Chief Guest of the same championship he once won, Mr. Butt expressed deep pride and emotion. Aameen Taqi Butt’s Remarks

“It has been an emotional and proud moment to return to the Pakistan Open after 58 years. The professionalism and precision displayed throughout this event reflect international standards. I would like to especially appreciate Mr. Malik Kamran Awan, whose leadership, technical excellence, and dedication have made this championship an example for the region.
