DP World ILT20 Season 4 culminated on 4 January, with Desert Vipers overcoming MI Emirates to secure their first title.Speaking over the course of the tournament, the Kuwait players reflected on their experiences and the opportunity to work alongside established international cricketers.Captain of the Kuwait cricket team, Mohamed Aslam, who turned out for the Sharjah Warriorz, said: “It’s a great opportunity for me to represent Sharjah Warriorz in the DP World ILT20, and we are getting a lot of experience in the dressing room.As the captain of the Kuwait national team, I am sharing the dressing room with leaders like Tim Southee and Sikandar Raza. I have gotten a lot of information from them and learned many things by asking questions. As an associate cricket player, this is a very good opportunity. I hope to apply all of this in Kuwait and do our best.”Mohammed Shafeeq became the first player from Kuwait or Saudi Arabia to feature in a DP World ILT20 fixture when he took the field for MI Emirates against the Dubai Capitals. Reflecting on his experience, he said: “The support from the coaching staff has been amazing because this is a completely different feeling for us. It will help us in the future, as the coaches are always watching us and giving technical inputs.”It is a very big moment for me to be part of this team and to play alongside players like Kieron Pollard, Nicholas Pooran and Jonny Bairstow. All of them are top players and operate at different levels. They consider us for every match, and that means a lot to me.”Dubai Capitals’ Anudeep Chenthamara said: “I would like to thank the Kuwait Cricket Board and DP World ILT20 for giving me this opportunity, it is a big one for me and the whole team. For example, I have changed the base of my run-up.”Echoing these sentiments, Gulf Giants’ Meet Bhavsar, who has played 73 T20Is for Kuwait, said: “It’s been a great experience to share the dressing room with the superstars of modern-day cricket. Facing somebody like Tabraiz Shamsi in the nets has been really challenging and helped me immensely. We have very good coaches, a great environment, and the style of teaching really helps us improve. Playing with these stars is a dream for us because they are legends, and we learn so much from them. They are gems as people and as cricketers, and it’s a joy to share the dressing room with them. I feel blessed to be part of the DP World ILT20 and hope more players get the chance to come here.”
Malaysia women eye historic World Cup debut as qualifiers approach
Lausanne (Sports News): As anticipation builds ahead of the FIH Hockey World Cup Qualifiers 2026, the Malaysia women’s national team stands on the brink of a potentially historic milestone. With the FIH Hockey World Cup Belgium and Netherlands 2026 on the horizon, the upcoming qualifiers represent a first-ever pathway to the World Cup for the Malaysian women, and captain Juliani Mohamad Din is ready to lead the charge in Santiago, Chile. For Juliani, captaining the team at such a defining moment is both an honour and a responsibility.“It is a great honour to lead the team in the World Cup Qualifiers,” she said. “We know the challenge will be tough, but my focus is to motivate the team to give their best and represent Malaysia with pride.”Competing in a high-stakes qualification tournament brings with it a unique mix of excitement and pressure, especially for a squad aiming to break new ground on the global stage. Juliani believes embracing that balance is part of the team’s growth.“Playing at this level brings excitement and pressure that cannot be bought or easily experienced,” she explained. “Learning to handle it helps us grow as players and creates memories that stay with us beyond our careers.”While a World Cup debut would be unprecedented for the team, Malaysia’s players are not unfamiliar with elite competition. Past appearances at FIH tournaments and continental events have helped shape the squad’s mindset and approach.“Those tournaments taught us the importance of discipline, consistency, and making the right decisions under pressure against top teams,” Juliani noted. “Those lessons will be crucial in a tournament like the World Cup Qualifiers.”When asked what qualification would mean, the captain did not shy away from the emotional significance, while also acknowledging the value of the journey itself.“Qualifying would be a dream come true,” she said. “But even competing in the qualifiers is already a valuable experience in one of the toughest tournaments in international hockey.”As the qualifiers draw closer, Malaysia’s women head into the challenge driven by belief, resilience and the ambition to make history, carrying not only their own dreams, but the hopes of Malaysian hockey with them.

Mohammad Zakaria and Amina Orfi clinch Karachi Open titles
Karachi, Pakistan (By; faisal): World Junior Champions Mohamad Zakaria and Amina Orfi have lifted the Rich Venus Karachi Open 2026 titles after claiming respective wins over Aly Abou Eleinen and Sivasangari Subramaniam at DA Creek Club. World No.11 Zakaria captured the biggest title of his career after outlasting Egyptian compatriot Eleinen in an epic 100-minute men's final, eventually prevailing by a 9-11, 11-9, 12-14, 11-7, 11-7 scoreline. In a brutal, high-quality contest, Zakaria showed incredible guts to twice come from behind, notably rallying from 6-2 down in the fourth to send the match to a deciding game. As the clock ticked over the 90-minute mark, the momentum swung heavily in Zakaria's direction as World No.14 Eleinen began to cramp. The 18-year-old took full advantage to build up a 6-1 lead on the scoreboard and hold on to win the seventh PSA Tour title of his burgeoning career. After the match, Zakaria said: "I'm speechless. To win a Gold event at 18 years old, it's surreal. The match was crazy. Aly played so well against me in the first three-and-a-half games, but then I noticed a physical drop-off or something hurting him. I hope it's nothing big. "It was a big confidence boost today to win in five. I started the fifth game and didn't feel too tired - I felt fresh. "I just feel happy that all the hard work I've been putting in behind the curtains is paying off."World No.3 Orfi, meanwhile, powered through to her fourth title of the 2025/26 PSA Squash Tour season after defeating No.2 seed Sivasangari in straight games. The four-time World Junior Champion delivered a near-faultless performance on the all-glass court at DA Creek Club to claim the Gold-level title by an 11-8, 11-2, 11-7 scoreline. The relentless intensity of Orfi's hitting down both wings proved decisive in the outcome of the match, with the 18-year-old Egyptian's dominance displayed in a second game in which she won 11 straight points from 2-0 down. From there, Orfi didn't allow Sivasangari a glimpse of a comeback, leading from start to finish in the third game and wrapping up the win after 38 minutes of play. After the match, Orfi said: “I’m so happy to get through the match in three games today. The past few days, I wasn’t really playing my best, but today I think I played my best. I played the squash I’ve been training for during the short off-season break.“I know that I have won Gold titles this year, and winning another one to start the New Year. It will give me a push going into busy months in January and February with two Platinum events in America. Hopefully, I can win those as well."This week's performances will also see Zakaria move into the top ten in the PSA World Rankings next Monday, with the 18-year-old becoming the third-youngest male player to achieve this feat in history, only behind legendary duo Jahangir and Jansher Khan.
