National Hockey Championship gets underway in Rawalpindi

Police, Customs, Sindh A, Army, and Mari Petroleum register victories

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Police, Customs, Sindh A, Army, and Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL) registered triumphs on the opening day of the 67th National Hockey Championship, which rolled into action at Lt. General Nadeem Ashfaq Hockey Stadium, Ayub Park Rawalpindi on Thursday.

The championship is being jointly organized by the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) and the Army Welfare Trust (AWT). Managing Director, Army Welfare Trust Lt. General Nadeem Mukhtar graced the opening ceremony as chief guest. Also, Major General (Retd) Asghar Nawaz, PHF Vice President Shehla Raza, Secretary General Haider Hussain, Hockey Legends Olympian Abdul Hanif Khan, Olympian Nasir Ali, Olympian Shakeel Abbasi, Secretary of Punjab Hockey Association Lt. Col. R. Asif Naz Khokhar, Ehsan Ullah, International, Olympian Waqas Akbar, Olympian Tariq Aziz, Olympian Umar Bhatta, Olympian Arshad Olympian Rahim Khan, Rana Shafiq International, Raja Shuja, Raja Shahid were present on this occasion.

Police beat Balochistan (4-1):

In the first match of the day Pakistan Police beat Balochistan 4-1 after completing all four quarters. Jameel, Bustan, Umeer, and Usman scored one goal each for the Police while Abdul Nafe scored the solitary goal for Balochistan B. Umpires Amir Hamza Asad Abbas, and Rizwan Khan supervised the match.

Pakistan Customs stun Sindh B (10-1):

Pakistan Customs stunned Sindh B 10-1 in the second match of the day. Bilal was the top scorer of the match, as he netted the ball thrice during the 60-minute game. Hamza also scored 3 goals for the winning team. Manan scored 2 goals while Murtaza and Imad scored 1 goal each. Anwar Hussain Mohammad Saleem and Mohammad Bilal handled the match as umpires.

Sindh A outclass KPK B (5-1):

Sindh A outclassed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa B (KPK) 5-1. Mohammad Ali, Wahab Khan, Nauman Ali, Amanullah, and Arbaaz Khan scored one goal each from Sindh A, while Naveed scored the only goal from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa B. The match was supervised by Mohammad Bilal Zahid Hameed and Shah Zeb Butt.

Punjab B thrash Gilgit Baltistan (10-1):

Punjab B defeated Gilgit Baltistan (GB) by 10-1 in the penultimate fixture of the day. Punjab, Amjad Shah, Jahan Hammad, Amjad Ali, and Mohammad Danish scored two goals each for Punjab B. Shakeel scored the only goal for Gilgit-Baltistan. Fahad Ali Khan, Irfan Malik, and Mohammad Wasim supervised the match.

Mari Petroleum overcome Pakistan Army (2-1):

Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL) and Pakistan Army locked horns in the last match of the day, as the finally MPCL won the match 2-1. Mohammad Afraz and Mohammad Waqar scored goals for Mari Petroleum while Mohammad Imad scored a goal for Pakistan Army. The match was supervised by Yasir Khurshid International and Irfan Tahir and Ansar Ali.

MPCL vs Gilgit Baltistan at 9:00 am

KPK A vs Police at 11:00 am

KPK B vs Rangers 2:00 pm

PAF Wah vs Sindh B 4:00 pm
