Rudn Enclave Housing Society becomes main sponsor of SAAF Cross Country Race
Abdul Jabbar FaisalISLAMABAD: Rudn Enclave Housing Society (REHS) has become the main sponsor of the South Asian Athletics Federation (SAAF) Cross Country Race, which will be held on November 24, 2024 here at Fatima Jinnah Park F-9.REHS inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SAAF officials at a local hotel in a colourful ceremony on Monday. Country Head of REHS, Malik Asad Abbass and Chairman Islamabad Athletics Association (IAA) and Head of Organizing Committee Brig (Retd) Sultan Satti signed on the documents. Director Land of Rudn Enclave Usman Qureshi was also present on this occasion. Ex-Chairman Joint Chiefs of Committee Lt. General Eshan-ul-Haq was the chief guest of the ceremony.Also, former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Raja Prevaiz Ashraf, Chairman SAAF, Major General (Retd) Mohammad Akram Shai, Managing Director Batulmal Raja Zamurd Khan, former squash world champion Qamar Zaman, Commonwealth Games gold medal winner weightlifter Nau Dastgeer, mountaineer Sajid Sadpare and other top officials and sports persons from twin cities Rawalpindi and Islamabad were present in the ceremony.Country Head REHS, Malik Asad Abbas said: “This is honour for us to sponsor an international sports event, which will be held first time in the history of Pakistan’s sports. Eight regional countries of South Asian including India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives, Bhutan, Afghanistan and hosts Pakistan will participate in the international race. We will build a sports stadium in our Rudn Enclave and establish international standard facilities for the players. We will also prepare an international standard athletics track and for t his purpose federation will have to provide technical assistance. We will support the sports events in future too aim to bring up talented budding players.”

Arshad Nadeem wins historical gold medal in Paris Olympics
Sports Bulletin ReportParis (France): Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem won the gold medal in the final of Javelin Throw event at the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024 on Thursday.Arshad lauched a throw of 92.97-meter in his second attempt which was enough for him to secure gold medal. Pakistan's first Olympic medal winner since Barcelona 1992 ended the night with another gigantic 91.79m throw on his final attempt.Even Nadeem's last throw would've seen him break the Olympic record held by Andreas Thorkildsen of Denmark (90.57m in Beijing 2008) had it not been bettered by himself earlier in the final.This is the first-ever individual gold medal in Olympics for Pakistan, maiden n athletics and first gold in any discipline in the last 40 years.Pakistan won an Olympic medal after the gap of 32 years. The last time Pakistan won an medal was in 1992 when the national hockey team clinched bronze by defeating the Netherlands 4-3 at the Barcelona Olympics.Meanwhile, India's Neeraj Chopra, who was defending his gold, made a throw of 89.45 and bagged the silver medal. Grenada's Anderson Peters fetched the bronze medal with a throw of 88.54m.Neeraj Chopra fails to make it two gold medals in a row and despite the second-best throw of his career with 89.45m on his second attempt, it wasn't enough to beat Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan who crossed the 90m mark twice and set a massive Olympic record.The 26-year-old becomes the fifth two-time Olympic medallist from India after adding a silver to his Tokyo 2020 gold medal. Asian Masters Athletics Championship: Ali Sher clinches Bronze
Abdul Jabbar FaisalISLAMABAD: Ali Sher Bajwa lifted the bronze medal in the Discus Throw discipline of the Asian Masters Athletics Championship, which is going on in New Clark City, Capas, Tarlac, Philippines.According to an official of the Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP), Lt Col (Retd) Shah-Jehan Mir, Dr. Ali Sher Bajwa, a distinguished orthopedic surgeon based in the United Kingdom (UK), showcased exceptional skill and determination in the Discus Throw event, earning a prestigious bronze medal for Pakistan.The Asian Masters Athletics Championship serves as a prominent platform for master athletes from across the continent to exhibit their skills and compete at the highest level. Pakistan’s star javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem seals spot in Paris Olympics
Budapest, (Hungary): Pakistan’s star javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem has qualified for the Paris Olympics 2024 with a massive throw of 86.79 meters in his third attempt in the qualifying rounds of World Athletics Championships 2023 in Budapest on Friday.The feat also took him to the final of the javelin throw competition at the World Championships, to be held on Sunday. The 26-year-old, who is the Commonwealth Games gold medalist, finished at the top in Group B. Overall he ended second after India’s Neeraj Chopra, who launched his campaign with a monstrous 88.77m throw in Group A. The qualifying mark for the 2024 Paris Olympics was 85.50 meters. The qualifying window commenced on July 1. Arshad’s first attempt was not impressive as he began with a throw, measuring 70.63m. However, he was quite impressive with an 81.53m throw in his second effort.Nadeem shot to stardom when he finished fifth in the Tokyo Olympics. Last year, he ended fifth in the World Championship. But soon afterwards, he creathe history, when in the Commonwealth Games by claiming the gold medal with a huge throw of 90.18 meters at the Alexander Stadium, Birmingham (United Kingdom) that feat also saw him becoming the first South Asian to cross the 90 meters mark. Priya Mohan, Abdulla qualify for Asian Athletics Championship
Sports Bulletin ReportRanchi (India):-Top national athletes Priya Mohan, and Abdulla Aboobacker qualified for Asian Athletics Championship, which will be held from July 12 to 16, 2023 in Bangkok, Thailand.Total six athletes including Priya and Abdullah confirmed their berths in the top regional athletics event of Asia after showing acceptable performance in the 26th National Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships that concluded in Ranchi on May 18, May 2023, as the players were trained under the banner of Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS).Priya Mohan was the first to make the cut in the 400-metre event, striking gold with a time of 53.40 seconds. While the 20-year-old couldn’t beat her own timing from the 2021 Senior National Championships, it was enough to ensure that she met the qualification standards.Priya Mohan said:"It is a moment of joy for me, but at the same time, I know I have a lot to improve upon. It will be my first senior Asian Athletics Championship, and I want to ensure that I make the most of the opportunity. My time at IIS has significantly benefited me, and I am still learning the nuances of competing at the senior level. The season has just begun, and I am looking forward to improving my timing further."Alongside Mohan, the IIS jumpers also made a significant mark at the competition. Rubina Yadav passed the qualification mark for the Asian Championships with a 1.80-metre jump, clinching gold in the high jump event, while Abhinaya Shetty claimed bronze with a 1.76-metre jump. In the men’s category, Jesse Sandesh clinched silver with a jump of 2.18 metres.On the other hand, Ancy Sojan had already made a mark at the Indian GP-1 in March, where she jumped 6.49 metres. She surpassed her previous personal best of 6.55 metres by jumping 6.56 metres, setting a new personal best and clinching gold in the women’s long jump event.Finally, amongst the jumpers, it was Commonwealth Games silver medallist Abdulla Aboobacker who clinched gold with a 16.76-metre jump and qualified for the Asian Championships in the triple jump. In the same event, Karthik Unnikrishnan clinched silver with the best jump of 16.44 metres.Abdulla Aboobacker said:"I am still under a heavy training regime, and the objective this year is to clear the 17-metre mark consistently. I was aiming for the national record as well, but it was pretty hot, so I had to change my plan a little. At the same time, I am really happy that the core objective of breaching the qualification barrier for the Asian Championships has been achieved."Finally, it was the javelin throw unit that lit up the stage at the Federation Cup, clinching two spots for the Asian Championships. Rohit Yadav clinched gold with the best throw of 83.40 metres, and Manu DP won silver with a throw of 82.95 metres, both clearing the Asian qualification mark of 78.23 metres set by AFI with ease in their second throw of the series, respectively.Apart from the qualifications, there were a number of good results. Madhvendra Singh and Sachin Binu clinched silver and bronze, respectively, in the men’s 110-metre hurdle with timings of 14.01 seconds and 14.23 seconds. In the throw events, it was Damneet Singh who clinched gold in the hammer throw with a best of 64.91 metres.

Athletics Federation unfolds details of national and international events
Sports Bulletin Report LAHORE: Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) has revealed the details of two events, which will be held during the month of February including one international and one national fixture. According to Secretary AFP Mohammad Zafar, five athletes will participate in the forthcoming 10th Asian-Indoor Athletics Championship, which will be taken place Astana, Kazakhstan from February 10 to 12, 2023. The 1st Aitchison Half Marathon will be held at Aitchison College Lahore on 18th of this month. Shajar Abbas (60m), Sharoz Khan (High Jump), Mohammad Imran (High Jump), Uzair Rehman (400m), Jaffar Ashraf (Pole Vault) and Qazi Tanveer Hussain (Manager-cum-Coach) are the part of national contingent. The men athletes from the affiliated units of the federation including Pakistan Army, WAPDA, Railways, Higher Education Commission (HEC), Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), Islamabad, Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK), Police, Gilgit Baltistan and student-athletes of Aitchison College will participate in the Half Marathon race. Also, cash prizes will be awarded to athletes up to 14th position as the winner will pocket 100 thousands rupees while runner-up will collect Rs. 50 thousands. Third position holder will get 25 thousands while rest of 11 get 10 thousand each.

Arshad Nadeem leaves for the United Kingdom for knee treatment
Sports Bulletin Report LAHORE (December 1, 2022): Javelin Throw star of Pakistan Arshad Nadeem has left for the United Kingdom (UK) on Wednesday night from Lahore for treatment of his injured elbow and knee joint. According to the Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP), the chronic right elbow injury has created major problems for him during the throwing action of the Javelin during training and in competitions. AFP has arranged for Arshad to undergo treatment at the Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital in the UK. A two-member team of Doctors headed by Dr. Ali Bajwa will perform treatment procedures on Saturday on the right elbow and left knee of the stalwart. After a 10-day rehabilitation and physiotherapy period, Arshad is expected to return home on the 12th of December 2022. It will further take 4 to 6 weeks for him to make a full recovery and return to his regular training routine.

IOA scholarship helps to focus on the game: says Arshad Nadeem
Sports Bulletin Report Birmingham (UK):-Pakistan's sports hero Arshad Nadeem, who on Sunday won the gold medal for the country in the javelin throw competition in the Commonwealth Games 2022 here, thanked the International Olympic Association (IOA) for providing him with a scholarship till the Paris Olympics 2024 and hoped the financial assistance under this scholarship would help further shine his skills at javelin throw by availing better training facilities and continue to reach new heights of success. "I am also obliged to the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA)  for its efforts in this regard to help him secure the much-needed IOA scholarship", he said, adding that he was thankful to Almighty Allah for enabling him to secure a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games for the country. Arshad Nadeem, who emerged as the first javelin thrower from the entire sub-continent to cross the 90-metre mark to bag the gold medal, said that the scholarship would not only enable him to focus on the game in the real sense of the word but also provide him with an opportunity to get better training opportunity and enhance his capability in the game, which in turn would enable him to continue to win further laurel for the country at the international level, particularly the Paris Olympics.

Arshad Nadeem visits Shackleton Village Birmingham
Sports Bulletin Report Birmingham (UK):-Pakistan’s number one athlete Arshad Nadeem arrived here on Saturday to participate in the javelin throw discipline of the22nd Commonwealth Games 2002, which are going on Birmingham, United Kingdom. According to an official of Pakistan’s contingent, after arriving Arshad Nadeem was taken to the welcome centre of the games, where he was tested for Covid-19, which resulted negative. After the registration process, Arshad Nadeem along with Dr Asad Abbas and Arshad Sattar visited Shackleton Village Birmingham where they were received by the Deputy Chef-de-Mission Major (R) Majid Wasim of the national contingent. On this occasion Arshad Nadeem said: “After one year of injury I made a comeback in the World Athletics Championship 2022 held in America and finished at the 5th spot after recording 86.16 meters throw. I am satisfy with my performance in the World Championship and has made full preparations for the Commonwealth Games”. In this regard, the chief medical officer of the national team, Dr Asda Abbas and Arshad Sattar are fully supporting Arshad. It should be noted that the qualifying rounds of javelin throw will be held on August 5th in the Commonwealth Games, while the final round will be held on August 7th. Arshad requested the people of Pakistan for prayers.

Pakistan athletes clinch 6 medals: Shajar Abbas lifts gold in Almaty
Abdul Jabbar Faisal ISLAMABAD:-Pakistani athletes Shajar Abbas, Sohail Amir, Abdul Mueed, Sharoz Khan and Shah Nawaz earned 6 medals including one gold, three silvers and two bronzes in the XXXI Qosanov Memorial Athletics Championship, which was held from June 25-26, 2022 at Almaty, Kazakhstan. According to Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP), national athletes won 6 medals in the championship after showing impressive performance in the international fixture. They created 3 new national records in the events of 100m (created new national record by finishing the race in 10.38 sec), 200m & High Jump.   Pakistani athletes produced notable performance due to the preparations during the National Training Camp at Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Coaching Centre Lahore.  Out class, facilities were provided to the athletes by the PSB.   Major General (Retd) Mohammad Akram Sahi, President AFP and Mohammad Zafar, Secretary General have congratulated the winning athletes and entire athletics family of Pakistan on this great achievement.
