Natalie sets sights on producing US cricket stars through Lahore Qalandars’ expertise
Sports Bulletin ReportLahore: US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker has laid out a bold vision for the future of American cricket, identifying an unlikely architect for the ‘American Dream’: the Lahore Qalandars.Speaking at a prestigious gala marking a decade of the franchise's influence, Baker didn’t just celebrate a team; she proposed a transcontinental alliance. With the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics looming on the horizon, where cricket will make its historic debut, the United States is hunting for the "magic ingredient" to transform its sporting landscape. According to Baker, that ingredient is the Qalandars’ developmental blueprint. The American envoy’s message was unequivocal. As the US prepares to host the world for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Olympics, the urgency to build a competitive cricketing infrastructure has never been higher. "I want Lahore Qalandars to help produce the next generation of US cricket stars," Baker stated, signaling a desire to export the franchise’s famed High-Performance Centre model to American soil. She revealed that the bridge is already being built, with several Qalandars stars slated to feature in US leagues, a move intended to catalyze the sport’s growth ahead of the 2028 Games.Baker’s journey from a cricket novice to a vocal advocate for the sport is a testament to the "Qalandars spirit." Her perspective shifted not in a boardroom, but in the electric atmosphere of the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium during a PSL 10 quarter-final.Invited by Qalandars owner Atif Rana, Baker witnessed the raw power of legends like Shaheen Shah Afridi. "Seeing the team fight, score, and win made me truly fall in love with the game," she admitted, describing the experience as the catalyst for her new diplomatic mission: bridging the gap between Lahore’s bustling streets and America’s sprawling stadiums.Beyond the trophies, Baker praised the visionary leadership of Atif and Sameen Rana. She noted that the franchise’s success is a result of "calculated, long-term planning" rather than luck. "Lahore Qalandars is not merely a sports franchise; it is a close-knit family," she observed. She highlighted the Player Development Program (PDP) as a "beacon of hope" that could find success in the diverse talent pools of the United States just as it has in the remotest regions of Pakistan. In an era of global fragmentation, Baker positioned the Qalandars' journey as a blueprint for societal cohesion. The partnership she envisions isn't just about wickets and runs; it is about ‘hope and unity’, a diplomatic strike that aims to turn the ‘Theatre of Dreams’ into a global reality, with American stars rising under the guidance of Lahore’s finest.

Ali, Amad rout SNGPL as PTV defends lowest-ever total in first-class history
Karachi (PCB Report):The third day of the fourth round of President’s Trophy Grade-I entered the first-class history record books as Pakistan Television (PTV) ran riot at the National Bank Stadium on Saturday. Elsewhere, Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) put Sahir Associates under pressure, Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) neared a win against State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). The fixture between Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) hung in balance as both the teams sensed victory with 135 runs left to surmount or five wickets remaining to be taken for a victory.  Left-arm spinner Ali Usman and right-arm pacer Amad Butt bowled 9.4 and 10 overs, respectively on the trot as PTV dismissed Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) for a mere 37 in 19.4 overs, who were chasing 40 to win. This was the lowest total ever successfully defended in the history of first-class cricket overcoming Oldfield’s successful defence of 41 against MCC at the Lord’s Old Ground in August 1794. Ali – playing his first game in the tournament after becoming best bowler in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2025-26 – registered the best figures of his red-ball career including the decisive six for nine on day three and match haul of 10-75. He also picked up the first and final wicket in SNGPL’s torrid outing in second dig. Amad picked up four for 28 in the second innings to back up his all-round performance of three for 42 and 46 not out with the bat in the first innings. SNGPL had slipped to 22-7 before Saifullah Bangash’s 35-ball 14 gave them slim hopes of a narrow win but not to be. Earlier in the day, PTV were bowled out for 111 in 42.5 overs after resuming from overnight score of 99-5 in 36.5 as SNGPL’s Shehzad Gul continued his fine run of form with five for 28 – his third five-for in four innings bagging 20 scalps across two games.  Sajid Khan and Shahnawaz Dahani chipped in with three and two wickets, respectively as Mohammad Taha’s overnight vigil ended at 27 off 123 balls. At the KCCA Stadium, Sahir Associates finished the day three with 147-8 on the board in 68.5 overs after conceding a meagre nine-run first innings deficit against OGDCL. After Sahir were 65-3, Mohammad Faiq (48, 118b, 4x4s) and Ahmar Ashfaq (43, 70b, 7x4s) added some valuable runs before OGDCL spinners Danish Aziz, Jawad Ali and Asif Afridi effected a collapse of five for 10. Earlier, OGDCL added 37 runs to their overnight score of 220-6 as Danish Aziz reached his half-century and then fell for 69 off 133 balls. Sahir’s left-arm spinner Rewayat Khan returned impressive figures of 26-9-59-5 on his debut, Hafiz Mohammad Suleman bagged four wickets. SBP were on the brink of their third loss in the tournament as they had closed the day three with 289-9 in 76 overs in their second innings with a mere 27 runs lead against KRL at the SBP Sports Complex. The mammoth first innings deficit of 262 runs took the spite out of the second innings contributions from SBP batters Qasim Akram (62, 78b, 7x4s, 1x6), Mohammad Huraira (54, 69b, 8x4s, 1x6), Hasan Raza (49, 85b, 8x4s), Shahid Aziz (42 not out, 51b, 3x4s, 2x6s) and Abdullah Fazal (35, 55b, 5x4s). KRL’s pacer Ahmed Bashir bagged his ninth first-class five-for with figures of five for 80 in 24 overs, while Aqib Liaqat and Mohammad Hamza picked up two wickets each. Earlier, KRL’s first innings culminated for 368 all out after resuming from overnight score of 365-8. SBP’s Niaz Khan picked up four wickets, while Shahid dismissed three batters. At the UBL Sports Complex, WAPDA required another 135 runs to win against Ghani Glass as they were 108-5 in 36 overs at stumps with all top five batters back in the hut. WAPDA’s hope lie with skipper Khalid Usman and Bismillah Khan, who were yet to bat. Ghani Glass’s charge was led by Noman Ali, who had picked up three of the five WAPDA wickets to fall stretching his match tally to 10 wickets and counting – his 10th haul of 10 wickets or more in a first-class game.  At the start of the day, Ghani Glass resumed their second innings from overnight score of 166-2 in 53 overs and fell for 323 in 92.3 overs, setting a 243-run target. Mohsin Riaz fell eight runs short of his century as he stretched his overnight 22 not out to 92 off 167 balls hitting 12 fours and one six. There was not much resistance from Ghani Glass batters following Tayyab Tahir’s departure for 36 off 65 balls as WAPDA’s Khalid picked up four wickets, while Naqeebullah dismissed three batters. Scores in brief – Round 4 – Day 3 of 4Sahir Associates v Oil and Gas Development Company Limited at KCCA Stadium, KarachiSahir Associates lead by 138 runs with two wickets remaining in second innings Sahir Associates 248 all out, 97 overs (Mohammad Faiq 93, Asim Ali Nasir 59, Mohammad Saleem 43, Razaullah 29; Asif Afridi 7-73) and 147-8, 68.5 overs (Mohammad Faiq 48, Ahmar Ashfaq 43, Faham-ul-Haq 24; Danish Aziz 2-14, Jawad Ali 2-35, Asif Afridi 2-45) OGDCL 257 all out, 106.2 overs (Umar Siddiq 79, Danish Aziz 69, Israrullah 30, Haroon Arshad 23, Asif Afridi 22 not out; Rewayat Khan 5-59, Hafiz Mohammad Suleman 4-62) Khan Research Laboratories v State Bank of Pakistan at SBP Sports Complex, Karachi SBP lead by 27 runs with one wicket remaining in second innings SBP 106 all out, 38.2 overs (Muhammad Ghazi Ghori 40; Mohammad Hamza 4-17, Ahmed Bashir 3-39, Abdul Wahid 3-49) and 289-9, 76 overs (Qasim Akram 62 Mohammad Huraira 54, Hasan Raza 49, Shahid Aziz 42 not out, Abdullah Fazal 35; Ahmed Bashir 5-80, Aqib Liaqat 2-57, Mohammad Hamza 2-73) KRL 368 all out, 130.3 overs (Waqar Ahmed 138, Sarmad Bhatti 101, Imran Rafiq 35, Saad Baig 29; Niaz Khan 4-78, Shahid Aziz 3-72, Rameez Aziz 2-40) Pakistan Television beat Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited by two runs at National Bank Stadium, KarachiTarget for SNGPL: 40  PTV 166 all out, 66.2 overs (Amad Butt 46 not out, Mohammad Taha 38, Taimur Khan 24, Mohammad Mohsin 22; Shehzad Gul 4-40, Shahnawaz Dahani 2-23, Sajid Khan 2-75) and 111 all out, 42.5 overs (Mohammad Taha 27, Mohammad Suleman 25; Shehzad Gul 5-28, Sajid Khan 3-28, Shahnawaz Dahani 2-38) SNGPL 238 all out, 67.3 overs (Saifullah Bangash 71, Omair Bin Yousuf 42, Sajid Khan 34, Abdul Samad 25; Ali Usman 4-66, Amad Butt 3-42, Israr Hussain 3-66) and 37 all out, 19.4 overs (Saifullah Bangash 14; Ali Usman 6-9, Amad Butt 4-28) Player of the match – Ali Usman (PTV) Water and Power Development Authority v Ghani Glass at UBL Sports Complex, Karachi WAPDA requires another 135 runs to win with five wickets remainingTarget for WAPDA: 243Ghani Glass 142 all out, 46.4 overs (Ali Razzaq 64 not out, Tayyab Tahir 33; Naqeebullah 3-46, Mujtaba Khan 2-12, Khalid Usman 2-21, Mohammad Zeeshan 2-39) and 323 all out, 92.3 overs (Mohsin Riaz 92, Khawaja Arham 68, Kashif Ali 53, Tayyab Tahir 36; Khalid Usman 4-89, Naqeebullah 3-43, Mohammad Zeeshan 2-85) WAPDA 223 all out, 67.1 overs (Ayaz Tasawar 78, Mohammad Akhlaq 38, Sharoon Siraj 23, Bismillah Khan 21; Noman Ali 7-59, Mohammad Rameez Jnr 2-55) and 108-5, 36 overs (Malhar Rasool 47, Ayaz Tasawar 20; Noman Ali 3-43)
