Major General (Retd) Mohammad Akram Sahi becomes chairman of AFP
LAHORE: Major General (Retd) Mohammad Akram Sahi has become the chairman of Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) after enjoying a-four-year two tenures as the president of federation in the Elective General Council Meeting of AFP. Meeting was chaired by Mohammad Akram Sahi.According to a press release of AFP, the elections were held under the convenership of Brig Ghazanfar Ali (Retd), Chairman AFP Election Commission. The Meeting was attended by the affiliated units of AFP. The House unanimously elected the following Office Bearers for the next term of four years (2023-2027). “Run for Pakistan” Independence Day Races in three cities on August 14
Sports Bulletin ReportKARACHI: To celebrate the 76th Independence Day of the Pakistan “Run for Pakistan” races took place on 14th August 2023 in three big cities including Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad which saw an overwhelming response from both seasoned athletes and recreational runners. Participants were geared up in green and white, embodying the essence of the national flag. The event was not only a physical feat but was also an opportunity to connect with fellow runners internationally, fostering camaraderie and shared values.Sports in Pakistan proudly hosted a spectacular Run for Pakistan on Independence Day, bringing together passionate runners from near and far to celebrate the spirit of freedom and unity. Athletics News: AFP selects 5 players for Asian Championship
Arshad Nadeem, Yasir Sultan, Shajar Abbas, Abdul Mueed, and Esha to represent PakistanSports Bulletin ReportLAHORE:-Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) has selected five players including 4 men and one woman for the 25th Asian Athletics Championships, scheduled to be held from July 12 to 16, 2023 in Bangkok, Thailand after conducting the trials at Punjab Stadium, Lahore.According to an official of the AFP, Arshad Nadeem, Yasir Sultan in Javelin Throw, Shajar Abbas in 100 meters, and 200 meters, Abdul Mueed in 200 meters, and 400 meters, and Esha Imran in 100 meters, 200 meters, and 400 meters have been selected for international competitions after analyzing their performance in trials.The athletes showed their remarkable athletic abilities and wowed the judges with their performances. The athletes showcased their skills in various disciplines, including  100m (Men), 100m (Women) 400m (Men), 400m (Women), Long Jump (Men) & Javelin Throw (Men). After a thorough evaluation of each performance, AFP selected 05 athletes to represent Pakistan in the Asian Athletics Championships. The selected athletes include Arshad Nadeem, Yasir Sultan in Javelin Throw, Shajar Abbas in 100m & 200m, Abdul Mueed in 200m & 400m, and Esha Imran in 100m, 200m & 400m. To ensure discipline and high-performance standards, coaches Shajar Abbas and Arshad Nadeem will go with the team. They will train and guide the team to ensure the best possible performance.

Athletic Federation Pakistan celebrates Kids Athletics Day in Lahore
Sports Bulletin Report LAHORE:-Athletic Federation Pakistan (AFP) organized different athletics competitions to celebrate World Kids Athletics Day Kids Athletics on the directives of the International Amateur Athletics Federation (IAAF) at Punjab University (PU) Lahore on Thursday.Over 200 kids from different schools participated in the competitions, as the Mohammad Zafar, Secretary General AFP, graced the occasion as a chief guest. Salman Iqbal Butt, President Punjab Athletics Association, Shahida Khanum, President, Pakistan Women’s Athletics Association, Abida Tanveer, General Secretary, Pakistan Women’s Athletics Association, and Tariq Mehmood Sidhu, President, Technical Officials Association of AFP, also attended the event. Also, Professor Dr Zafar Iqbal Butt, Director of Sports Punjab University was also present on this occasion. The key objectives and aims of celebrating and organizing Kids Athletics Day were to ensure a steady and sustainable policy for the development of athletics and to introduce children to athletics at a basic level. It was also aimed to expand the sport of athletics for schools and all institutions that are interested in the well-being of children, to popularize athletics in the country and world, and to raise awareness about the importance of fitness and encourage people to get more involved in sports and athletics.The Secretary-General AFP appreciated the efforts of Mohammad Nabeel, Assistant Director Sports Punjab University, and the management of Punjab University for excellent arrangements. Gifts, T-shirts, caps, and certificates were distributed among the children.

Sports Bulletin Report ISLAMABAD: The 42 kilometers Islamabad marathon race will be held on Sunday, and will start from Trail 3 Islamabad Parking here at Margallah Road in five different categories including Full Marathon (42.2 km), Half Marathon (21.1 km) 10 km, 5 km, and Kids Fun Run. According to an official, Qasim Naz, Islamabad Run with Us (IRU) will organize the second full marathon (42km) in Islamabad on Sunday (January 29, 2023. Commissioner Karachi Marathon Race on January 29, 2023
Sports Bulletin Report KARACHI: The 4th Commissioner Karachi Marathon on January 29, 2023, as the registration process has been kicked off for the mega athletic event. According to an official, the fourth edition of the Commissioner Karachi Marathon will be held on January 29, at Nishan-i- Pakistan Sea View. Commissioner Karachi Mohammad Iqbal Memon will inaugurate the marathon at 10 am at Nishan-i- Pakistan Sea View. There will be two categories of the marathon, the first one will be twelve kilometers while the other category will be a seven and a half kilometers race. Men and women of all ages can participate in both categories while special children and families can also participate in the marathon in a special category. Top national athlete Shajar Abbas wins 100 meter race
LAHORE (Sports Bulletin):-Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) and Aitchison Collage jointly organized 1st Aitchison Fastest Man Race (100m) at Aitchison Collage Lahore on Friday. According to an official of AFP, over 100 men athletes from the affiliated units of AFP including Army, WAPDA, Railways, HEC, Punjab, Sindh, KPK, Islamabad, AJ&K, Police & Gilgit Baltistan and student-athletes of Aitchison College participated in the competition. Shajar Abbas got first position and pocketed Rs. 100,000 cash prize while Nadeem Ali remained second and got Rs. 50,000. Uzair Rehman won third position and received prize of Rs. 25,000.  Secretary General Athletics Federation of Pakistan Mohammad Zafar and Principal Aitchison College Michael Thomson distributed medals and cash prizes among the winner athletes of event.

Arshad urges government to provide best facilities to athletes
Sports Bulletin Report LAHORE:-The gold medal winner of the recently Commonwealth Games 2022, Arshad Nadeem viewed of that an athlete might win gold medal in the international competitions if he would be provided all international standard facilities. While addressing a press conference he said he could also win the medal in the Olympics if he would be facilitated well like athletics ground and other equipment. “I will work hard to bring the honour for the country in the next Olympic Games, which will be taken place in Paris, France, “he added. Javelin thrower Arshad urged the government to provide a fully-equipped and international-standard athletics ground for the local players and expressed the hope that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would take steps for the betterment of athletic sports in the country. Arshad lauded Pakistan Wapda’s role in the promotion and development of sports in Pakistan and added: “Wapda is the biggest players’ support platform in our country. I am grateful to my department Wapda, which provides jobs to many talented and potential sportspersons of the country, who are trained well under able guidance of qualified coaches and later, they win medals for the country at national and international levels. I wish that the private sector too will continue to promote our local players and we will achieve more success in the future by working together. “I am also thankful to Nayza and its CEO Zahid Hussain for their support and training abroad as it helped me train well according to international standard and transformed me into a champion that’s why I succeeded in creating Asian record in javelin throw. With more such support, hopefully, I will succeed in giving my best in the world event and Paris Olympics,” he asserted. When asked about the facilities being provided to his counterpart Neeraj Chopra of India, Arshad said: “Neeraj Chopra has been enjoying the best facilities in his country and it was due to heavy investment on him that he had won gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics. After winning gold medals in the Commonwealth Games and Islamic Solidarity Games, I am now hopeful that everyone will support me too and my eyes will be on winning Paris Olympics gold,” he added. The 25-year-old athlete said that he was currently working on his injury and would undergo vigorous training before the Paris Olympics 2024. “I will prepare well for the Paris Olympics 2024. I am working on my injury and AFP President Maj Gen (R) Akram Sahi and other officials have supported me tremendously for that. The doctors have also done a great job for my recovery.” Commenting on his meeting with PM Shehbaz today (Thursday), Arshad hoped that the PM would take measures for the advancement of athletics in the country. “My task is to produce the best results in the mega events and thanks to Allah Almighty, I succeeded in winning gold medals in the two prestigious events. Now it is up to the government and the premier what they provide me for the preparation of upcoming Olympics. The basic thing I need is fully-equipped ground for my practice and training and I am optimistic that the premier would take an abrupt decision on it and provide us a state-of-the-art athletics ground soon.” Speaking on the occasion, Nayza CEO Zahid Hussain said: “Our meeting with Arshad Nadeem was held through Salman Butt and then we held meeting with AFP President Maj Gen (R) Akram Sahi, who asked us to fully support Nadeem saying he has potential and he can help Pakistan win international medal. First, we sent him Mashhad, Iran for training and then South Africa, where he trained for two months and then he went to USA, where he trained well. “I think Commonwealth Games proved a lucky place for him, where he finally won the first javelin throw gold for Pakistan. He was supported and guided well by Dr Ali Bajwa and then he managed to win another gold medal in Solidarity Games in Konya, Turkey. Arshad is now our shinning stars and we are fully supporting him and want him to win more gold medals in world and Olympic events,” he added. It is pertinent to mention here that Arshad Nadeem created history in the Commonwealth Games 2022 for Pakistan as he clinched a gold medal in the javelin event with his record throw of 90.18 meters. He also clinched won gold medal in the Islamic Solidarity Game held in Konyo, Turkey.

Technical Officials Education & Certification System Level-1 Athletics Course concludes
Abdul Jabbar Faisal ISLAMABAD:-An Educational Course, Technical Officials Education and Certification System (TOECS) Level-1 Athletics Course concluded on Thursday at Jinnah Stadium, Pakistan Sports Complex. Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) organized this course in the collaboration with World Athletics (WA) from June 18 to 22, 2022. Maj Gen (R) Mohammad Akram Sahi, HI(M), SI(M), President AFP and Vice President Asian Athletics Association graced the closing ceremony as chief guest and distributed the certificates among  the participants. According to an official of AFP, the main purpose to organize the course was to educate, train and increase the number of qualified technical officials in the country. International lecturer Suppiah Chinatamy (Malysian National) conducted the course. Mumtaz Ul Haq, Senior Vice President Islamabad Athletics Association was the course secretary. Syed Habib Shah, General Secretary, Punjab Athletics Association was the chief coordinator. The course will contribute a lot in the promotion of athletics at different levels and the qualified technical officials will be eligible to attend TOECS Level-II course. They will have chance to perform duties in the national and international athletics competitions.
