Muzammil outplays Nicolas 2-1, Aqeel Khan overcomes Seydina 2-1 on opening dayAbdul Jabbar FaisalISLAMABAD: Veteran tennis player Aqeel Khan and emerging tennis star Muzammil Murtaza claimed a 2-0 lead for Pakistan in the Davis Cup World Group II Tennis Tie against Senegal by showing a sparkling performance here at the Grass Courts of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) on Friday.In the first singles, Muzammil Murtaza fought back strongly to get rid of his opponent Nicolas Jadoun in a thrilling three-set contest. Muzammil claimed the match 6-3, 1-6, 7-5 after over two hours of high-quality tennis, giving Pakistan an early breakthrough.Meanwhile, in the second singles, Pakistan’s veteran star Aqeel Khan displayed his experience and composure as he overcame Seydina Andre in another hard-fought encounter. Aqeel won the match 6-7, 7-6, 6-2, extending Pakistan’s lead to 2-0 in the tie. With both singles secured on day one, Pakistan are now in a commanding position heading into day two of the tie.On Saturday, the action will continue with the doubles match, where Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Muzammil Murtaza will represent Pakistan against Seydina Andre and Nicolas Jadoun of Senegal. Following the doubles, two reverse singles matches will also be played as per Davis Cup format, with. Muzammil Murtaza set to face Seydina Andre Aqeel Khan scheduled to compete against Nicolas Jadoun.
Pakistan vs Senegal: Muzammil to meet Nicolas in first Singles
Abdul Jabbar FaisalISLAMABAD: Rising tennis player, Muzammil Murtaza will take on Nicolas John in the first Singles match of the Davis Cup Tennis Tie Group II between hosts Pakistan and Senegal here at the Grass Courts of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) in the premises of Pakistan Sports Complex on Friday. The first match will start at 10:30 am. Draw ceremony of the Davis Cup Tennis Tie took place on Thursday at a local hotel, which was attended by the all players and officials of both teams. In the second Singles, Aqeel Khan will face Seydina Andre at the same venue.Senegal captain Bedi Dieng said: "Pakistan is a strong opponent and defeating them on home ground will be a big challenge. Our team mainly consists of young players and we have limited experience on grass courts. We have been assessing Islamabad’s conditions for two days, and the hospitality here has been excellent. Our goal is to improve Senegal Tennis Team’s global ranking."The president, Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) and star player Aisam-ul-Haq said: "I will continue to play Davis Cup as long as the country needs me. We are determined to win the Group II tie against Senegal. Senegal has limited experience on grass courts, which we will use to our advantage. I also aim to enhance the skills of young players through my experience and will try to secure victory at home conditions."

ICI and Salma Noorani Nationals were the last A+ tournaments.Tournaments will bring together Pakistan’s top-ranked players and emerging talent, providing a highly competitive platform and reaffirming Karachi’s importance on the national tennis calendar.Schedule:PSO National Ranking Tennis Tournament (Grade A+) — 8 to 15 February 2026, to be held at Karachi Club.Naya Nazimabad Ramzan National Ranking Tennis Tournament (Grade A+) — 16 to 23 February 2026, to be held at Naya Nazimabad Gymkhana Club, Karachi.The Naya Nazimabad RAMADHAN tournament will be played during the holy month of Ramzan, with night matches, offering players and spectators a unique and exciting experience.Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, President PTF, stated that after a very long gap, Karachi is once again hosting two major Grade A+ national tournaments, which is a significant milestone for tennis in the city. PTF Selects Girls Team for World Junior Competition Pre-Qualifying
Abdul Jabbar FaisalIslamabad: Hajra Sohail; Aimen Rehan and Khadija KhalilThe Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) has named a 3-girl team after conducting two days trials for the World Junior Competition Pre-Qualifying Girls Under-14 Event, scheduled to be held in Vietnam from 23rd to 28th February 2026.The trials were held from 19th to 21st January 2026 at the PTF Complex, Islamabad. A total of nine girls were invited for the trials based on their national rankings. Hajra Sohail was exempted from the trails for her notable performance last year.After the conclusion of the trials, the following players were selected to represent Pakistan:Hajra Sohail Aimen RehanKhadija KhalilEssha Rabbi (Reserve).

Gloucestershire (Sports News): In an extraordinary display of courage and resilience, Pakistan’s wheelchair tennis player Asif Gul Abbasi has finished the 2025 season as the United Kingdom (UK) National No.1, despite of facing multiple severe spinal and arm injuries and after not playing tennis for eight weeks on medical advice.Doctors had advised him (Asif) not to play wheelchair tennis due to C4–C7. The injuries left him unable to fully bend or extend his right arm, forcing him to hold the racquet with only three fingers and a loose grip. He also struggled with lower-body mobility due to L4–L5 nerve-root impingement, which made wheelchair movement extremely difficult.Despite these challenges, Asif showed remarkable determination at the National Finals in Gloucestershire. Playing through constant pain and limited mobility, he reached the Singles final and went on to become the National Doubles champion. His performance was stunning, and spectators applauded his achievement in the top national wheelchair tennis event.Asif Gul Abbasi said, “I did not play tennis for eight weeks, and my body wasn’t ready to enter the arena; however, my heart was encouraging me, and I was willing to do something extraordinary. I relied on faith and gave everything I had. Alhamdulillah, it was accepted. My journey from injury to national success is a powerful message of resilience for Pakistanis around the world.”
Davis Cup Tie 2026: Pakistan vs Senegal next month in February at Islamabad
Pakistan Tennis Federation asks 13 players to join camp on January 12 in LahoreAbdul Jabbar FaisalISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) announced on Saturday that the Davis Cup Training Camp would be kicked off on January 12 at Defence Club Grass Courts Lahore aim to prepare the boys for the upcoming Davis Cup tie against Senegal, scheduled to be held on February 6 and 7, 2026 at the Pakistan Sports Complex, Islamabad. PTF invited 13 players for first phase.According to an official of PTF, as many as 13 players will participate first phase of the training camp which will be concluded on January 24 and camp will be shifted to Islamabad for the final phase of training camp. PTF invited Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, Aqeel Khan, Muzammil Murtaza, Mohammad Shoaib, Yousaf Khalil, Barkatullah, Huzaifa Abdul Rehman, Ahmad Nael Qureshi, Mikaeel Ali Baig, Abubakar Talha, Nadir Mirza, Ahtesham Humayun and Zohaib Afzal Malik.Later, in the second round of camp, four local tennis lads including Hamza Roman, Hassan Usmani, Abdul Basit and Haziq Asim will join the camp along with other senior players. Former Davis Cupper and Non-Playing captain Rashid Malik will supervise the training camp. Also, Mushaf Zia, Mohammad Khalid, and Shahzad Khan will serve as coach in the camp.Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, President-PTF, said: “The training camp is an important step in building a strong and competitive national team for the forthcoming Davis Cup tie against Senegal. After the conclusion of the camp, the final team will be announced.
