ISLAMABAD: Top seed Aqeel Khan overcame Barkatullah 2-0 in the first quarterfinal of the Men’s Single event of the 35th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships at PTF-SDA Tennis Complex, Islamabad on Thursday. The final score-line was 6-1 and 7-5.
The top seed Aqeel Khan faced little resistance from 8th seeded Barkatullah. In the opening set, Aqeel served and returned well to finish the set comfortably at 6-1. In the second set which was marked with aces and long rallies and the score went up to 5-5 all as both players held their respective serves, Aqeel broke the eleventh game of Barkat by hitting some winners down the line forced out Barkatullah in 7-5.
The 4th seed Muzammil Murtaza conveniently won his encounter against upcoming proficient Abdullah Adnan 6-2, 6-3. The 6th seed Mudassar Murtaza qualified for the semifinal when 3rd seed Mohammad Abid retired hurt due to injury at 5-0 in the first set.
