Javeria Rauf, Omaima Sohail hit half-centuries to guide Challengers to victory

KARACHI:-Challengers defeated Blasters by five wickets in the 2nd round of the Pakistan Women’s Cricket Cup, as a couple of half-centuries from Javeria Rauf and Captain Omaima Sohail guided their team to the first victory at Blasters at the State Bank Stadium on Wednesday. Javeria was declared the player of the match.
Blaster set a 191 runs target on the scoreboard, as the winners lost two wickets for 42 runs in the 13th over. At this stage, Javeria and Omaima got together on the pitch, as both batters aggregated 134 runs for the third wicket before both batters Javeria (82 runs, 119 balls, 4x6, 6x1) and Omaima (75 runs, 86 balls, 4x5x, 6x1) went back to the dressing-room on successive deliveries of the 38th over. However, in 42nd over Challengers reached on target after losing 5 girls. Left-arm spinner Anam Amin got 2 wickets for the Blasters after conceding 42 runs in 10 overs.
Earlier, Challengers skipper won the toss and put opposition into bat first, Blasters were reeling at 42 for three in the 13th over, when Captain Muneeba Ali was joined by Iram Javed. Both batters stitched a 104-run partnership for the fourth wicket, but after the departure of Muneeba (50 runs, 75 balls, 4x2, 6x0) and Iram (49 runs, 69 balls, 4x3, 6x2), no Blasters batter managed to score significantly as the side was dismissed for 190 in the allotted 45 overs. Masooma and Sadia Iqbal grabbed four and three wickets, respectively for Challengers.
