Inter-Division National Basketball: Faisalabad, Islamabad post wins

Sports Bulletin ReportISLAMABAD: Defending champion Faisalabad, Islamabad, Lahore, and Peshawar have won their matches on the opening day of the Inter-Division National Basketball Championship Grade A, fans were treated to a series of electrifying matchups at Pakistan Sports Complex Islamabad.The action-packed day featured four intense contests, showcasing the best basketball talent in Pakistan organised by the Federal Basketball Association (FBBA) under the supervision of the Pakistan Basketball Federation (PBBF).The first match of day one saw the defending champion Faisalabad division facing off against Karachi division, and it was Faisalabad that emerged victorious with a final score of 50-39, demonstrating their prowess on the court. Mohammad Usman Abbas scored 13 points and Hassan Bhatti scored 10 points from the winning team while Anas Asher scored 11 points for the Karachi division.The excitement continued in the second match as Peshawar clashed with Gujranwala. Peshawar's team displayed their dominance, scoring 80 points against Gujranwala's 63, securing a well-deserved win with the support of Abdul Wahab who scored 37 points. In the third match, Lahore went head to head with Rawalpindi, and it was Lahore that triumphed with a final score of 78-61, impressing the fans with their skillful gameplay.The day concluded with the Islamabad team taking on Hazara, and the contest was a spectacle of basketball finesse. Islamabad outclassed Hazara with a score of 70-54, marking a victorious end to the opening day of this highly anticipated championship. Rizwan Khurshaid scored 21 points for the winning side while Mohammad Atif scored 20 points for Hazara Division. Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Deputy Director General Chaudhry Saeed Akhtar, Director PSB Mohammad Faizan, Fida Mohammad Khan, Federal Basketball Association Secretary General Ouj E Zahoor, Head Coach Malik Riaz, Dr. Akhtar Nawaz Ganjera, Mohammad Azam Dar and a large number of fans have witnessed the matches on the opening day.

A three-day FIBA Referee Workshop commences in Islamabad

Mohammad Azam DarISLAMABAD: To improve the basketball standards and skills of the technical officials of basketball, the Pakistan Basketball Federation (PBBF) took some significant steps, as the federation started a FIBA Referee workshop on Thursday aiming for the growth and development of basketball referees here at Pakistan Sports Complex.The Federation of International Basketball Associations (FIBA) qualified referee Instructor, Abdul Karim Shakeb from Bahrain will conduct the 3-day workshop, who was appointed by FIBA Asia. Shakeb's extensive experience and knowledge are expected to be instrumental in enhancing the skills of local referees and officials.Prior to the main event, a National Referee Workshop was conducted at the same venue, the Sports Complex in Islamabad. Over 40 referees participated in this preparatory workshop, which aimed to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge for the upcoming FIBA Referee workshop.The National Referee Workshop received guidance and instruction from key figures in the basketball community. The Associate Secretary of the Pakistan Basketball Federation and FIBA Commissioner Ouj E Zahoor played a pivotal role in organizing and conducting the workshop, in collaboration with the National Referees Board.Secretary Referees Board Prof. Siraj Ul Haq Qureshi and members of the board former FIBA referee Yaqoob Qadry and Saadat Jehangir contributed their expertise by conducting training sessions during the National Referee Workshop. Their valuable insights and mentorship are expected to enrich the skills of the referees who will soon partake in the FIBA Referee workshop.This initiative by the Pakistan Basketball Federation not only emphasizes the commitment to improving the quality of officiating in basketball but also aims to strengthen Pakistan's presence on the international basketball stage. The FIBA Referee workshop is poised to be a significant step forward in achieving these objectives, as it equips local referees with the knowledge and skills necessary to officiate international basketball events effectively.

“FIBA Basketball for Good” Program Third Phase Concludes in Islamabad

Mohammad Azam DarISLAMABAD: The third phase of the FIBA Foundation's "Basketball for Good program" concluded on Monday with a resounding success, leaving a positive impact on the lives of over 90 girls from diverse schools held here at the Liaquat Gymnasium, Pakistan Sports Complex.The two-day event aimed to promote sports, teamwork, and empowerment among young girls held under the vigilant supervision of Pakistan Basketball Federation (PBBF) Associate Secretary and Federal Basketball Association (FBBA) General Secretary, Ouj E Zahoor, the "Ball In Street" event marked the third segment of the FIBA Foundation's Basketball for Good program, following successful events in Multan and Lahore.National Coaches, Riaz Malik and Umer Mahmood, took the lead with their exceptional coaching skills. They were joined by an illustrious team of coaches, including Naveed Ahmed, Yasir Ghafoor, Yasir Mujtaba, and Prem Shehzad, who conducted informative sessions on coaching skills, training, modern techniques, and basketball games, inspiring the young participants to pursue their basketball dreams.The concluding ceremony witnessed esteemed guests, with Chairperson of Karim Khan Afridi Welfare Foundation (KKAWF) Cristina von Sperling Afridi, and President Federal Basketball Association (FBBA) Ejaz Rafi Butt, serving as the chief guests. Pakistan Basketball Federation (PBBF) Associate Secretary Ouj E Zahoor, National Basketball Team Coach Riaz Malik, and other dignitaries also graced the event with their presence.As a symbol of achievement and encouragement, certificates were distributed among all the participants at the end of the coaching workshop. Additionally, basketballs were presented to the participating schools, fostering a continued love for the sport among the youth.The third phase of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Basketball for Good program in Islamabad exemplifies the transformative power of sports, promoting gender equality and empowerment among the younger generation. A two-day FIBA Basketball for Good program concludes in Multan

Sports Bulletin ReportMULTAN: A Two-day coaching workshop under the umbrella of International Basketball Federation "FIBA Basketball for Good program" concluded on Sunday, which was attended by a large number of players and coaches from all over Pakistan.According to a spokesman for the Pakistan Basketball Federation (PBBF), Mohammad Azam dar, the two-day workshop was organized under the supervision of Pakistan Basketball Federation (PBBF). Secretary General Khalid Bashir at Multan while Riaz Malik, the head coach of the national basketball team, along with other coaches Umer Mehmood, Saadat Jahangir, Mohammad Naveed delivered the lectures and demonstration on coaching skills, training, modern techniques, and basketball games in different sessions to the participants.One of the most important aspects of this FIBA Basketball for Good program was helping participants to understand the relationship between a coach and the players. At the end of the coaching workshop, certificates were distributed among the participants by Secretary General of Pakistan Basketball Federation Khalid Bashir along with Chief Executive of Lucky Beverages Chaudhry Sajjad Ali.

Basketball News: Pakistan Whites win Save Tomorrow 7 Basketball event

Tomorrow 7 Sports event organized by the Karim Khan Afridi Welfare Foundation (KKAWF), in collaboration with the Pakistan Basketball Federation (PBBF), United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP), and Serena Hotel Islamabad.This is the seventh event of its highly successful "Save Tomorrow" series of KKAWF's programme 'Sports is the Answer'. Save Tomorrow 7 showcase the best of national basketball team players. The event’s aim was to raise awareness of overdose and in reducing the stigma surrounding drug-related deaths, in honour of International Overdose Awareness Day. Save Tomorrow series of events', is a hope that brings together youth, communities, sports enthusiasts, diplomats and supporters to promote healthy living, remember those lost to drug overdose, and prevent future tragedies.Save Tomorrow 7 featured thrilling basketball matches between national teams, both male and female, showcasing the talent and sportsmanship of our athletes. In the men’s match, Pakistan Greens emerged victorious against strong Pakistan white team by 56 points against 54. Mohammad Shiraz showcased his talent and determination, securing 19 points while Mehtab scored 16 points for the winning side.In a women’s match, Pakistan Army beat Islamabad by 30-21 points. Amna Mohsin scored 12, Zobia Bibi 6 and Imad Ahmed scored 4 points to play their vital role for team Army victory. The winning and runners-up teams were awarded prestigious trophies and all participating players received gold and silver medals.

The federation has successfully organized various national events in recent times. Pakistan basketball team recently participated in the 5 Nation Basketball Championship at Maldives and showed impressive performance under the flag of the same Pakistan Basketball Federation.During an interview, he emphasized that the current PBBF is duly affiliated with esteemed sports governing bodies, namely the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), Pakistan Olympic Association (POA), and International Basketball Federation (FIBA). The federation has diligently organized national fixtures for both men and women at various levels, contributing significantly to the promotion of the sport across the country.Furthermore, he clarified that the elected body is also affiliated with FIBA (Asia) and holds associations with all major seven departments, provincial, and divisional basketball associations. However, Bangladesh showed some resistance in the second quarter, taking a slight 37-34 lead. In the third quarter, Pakistan pushed Bangladesh against the wall as they only managed to score seven points while Pakistan scored 22 points to extend their lead to 56-44. Faryal, Feroze, and Hadiqa scored 5, 4, and 2 points for Lahore.Meanwhile, in the second semifinal, Islamabad’s women created history after defeating Karachi Green by 34-29 in a well-contest game.
