Sulaiman Ashrafi wins 1st Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Chess Championship

Islamabad:-Sulaiman Ahmed Ashrafi has lifted the title of 1st Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Chess Championship that took place at F-9 Park Islamabad on Sunday.

The championship was organized by Chess Federation of Pakistan (CFP) and Islamabad Chess Association (ICA) with the support of Directorate of Sports Culture and Tourism CDA MCI on the special directions of Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, Administrator Municipal Corporation Islamabad (MCI) Arfan Nawaz Memon. .

According to secretary CFP Gohar Iqbal, in the professional category, Sulaiman Ahmed Ashrafi claimed first position while Sabat Ali remained second. Salman Ali Khan got third position in a one-day fixture. Noor Fatima Rashid was on top in the women’s event.  

Over 100 top players from all over Pakistan participated in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Championship, as the basic aim was to provide an occasion to upcoming budding young boys and girls to improve their game by playing with renowned players.

Deputy Commissioner of Islam Arfan Nawaz Memon participated in the event as a special guest. Cash prizes were distributed among the first ten players who won and the winner was awarded with a beautiful trophy.

Chess Federation of Pakistan President Hanif Qureshi appreciated the efforts made by Metropolitan Corporation Islam to promote mind games. The organizers of the championship and Secretary Finance of Chess Federation of Pakistan Raja Gohar Iqbal congratulated the winning players.

Administrator MCI Irfan Nawaz Memon said:

"ICT administration is also going to establish a chess club in F-9 Park and chess activities will be organized on every Sunday in F-9 Park Islamabad.
