Davis Cup Tennis Tie: India earn 2-0 lead against hosts Pakistan
Ramkumar overcomes Aisam 2-1 in a thrilling three sets contest at grass courtsAbdul Jabbar FaisalISLAMABAD: The Indian tennis team earned a 2-0 lead against Pakistan in the Davis Cup Tennis Tie World Group 1 play-off, which started at the grass courts of Aisam Tennis Arena, Pakistan Sports Complex Islamabad on Saturday. Ramkumar Ramanathen, and Sriram Balaji claimed victories for India. The Doubles’ and two reverse singles will be played on Sunday (February 4, 2024) at the same venue.In the first singles, Ramkumar Ramanathen won the toss and decided to serve first, as he hit the first serve in the net, however, the Indian guy played an aggressive game and won the first game without conceding a solitary point. Both players exhibited top-class tennis in the first set and maintained their respective serves till 6-6. Aisam won the first set on tie-break at 7-3 by smashing a couple of aces.After losing the first set, Ramkumar changed his strategy and broke the first game of Aisam without conceding a single point. He maintained the same pace in the second game and finished in a similar style without losing any points and made the score 2-0. Aisam bounced back in the set by breaking the 4th game of his challenger to square the set point 2-2. Both players retained serves in the rest of the eight games. The score was one again level at 6-6. This time Ramkumar won the set on a tie-break to level the match at 2-2.In the decisive set, Aisam did not feel well owing to his injury and during the set, he got three minutes of a medical break. Ramkumar finished the third set 6-0. The final score-line of the match was 7-6 (7-3), 6-7 (7-4), 6-0.  In the second match, Sriram Balaji defeated Aqeel Khan in straight sets 2-0 at the same venue. The final score-line was 7-5, and 6-3.

Pakistani tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq will take on Ramkumar Ramanathen of visiting team in the first single of the Davis Cup Tennis Tie while Pakistan number one Aqeel Khan will meet Shriram Balaji in the second encounter of the day.On the second day, the duo of local tennis lads, Muzammil Murtaza pairing with Barkatullah will lock horns with Indian pair Yuki Bhambri, and Saketh Myneni in the Doubles fixture. PTF names 3-boy team for Boys’ Under-16 Juniors Davis Cup
Sports Bulletin ReportISLAMABAD: Three teenager tennis players, Hamza Roman, Mikaeel Biag, Abubakar Talha, have been selected for the Pakistan Under-16 Boys’ team for the Pre-Qualifying Event of the Aisa /Oceana Davis Cup Under-16 Junior fixture, which will be played from February 19 to 24, 2024 in Sri Lanka.According to an official of Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF), the players have been picked-up after conducting trials at SDA-PTF Tennis Complex. Hamza Roman, Mikaeel Biag, and Abubakar Talha produced acceptable performance during the trials.

Federal Cup: Mohammad Shoaib beats Aqeel Khan 2-0 in final
Sports Bulletin ReportISLAMABAD: Top seed, Mohammad Shoaib thrashed second seed Aqeel Khan in straight sets 2-0 in the Men’s Singles final of the 36th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships that concluded here at PTF-SDA Tennis Complex on Sunday. The final score-line was 6-2, 6-4.In the Men’s Singles final, 22-year-old top seed Mohammad Shoaib of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) outclassed Aqeel Khan 2-0 after the lasted 1 hour 18 minutes on the court. Shoaib got off to a flying start, taking a 4-2 lead by breaking the first game of Aqeel Khan and kept the same pressure to win the first set at 6-2.In the second set, Aqeel fought back but young Shoaib did not allow Aqeel to settle down and exhibited excellent tennis from the base-line and broke the 7th game of Aqeel to build up the winning streak 4-3 in which Aqeel hit a double fault. Shaoib continued the same pressure and in the 10th game, he hit strong serve game and won the set by hitting ace and clinched the Men’s Singles title at 6-2 6-4.Earlier in the day, the Ladies’ Singles Sarah Mahboob clinched the title by eliminating up-comping youngster Amna Ali Qayum from Islamabad in a well-fought straight sets final. Sarah won the toss and chose to serve. Both the players exhibited excellent game of tennis down the line and cross-court, Sarah took the lead 5-4 and broke the 10th game of Amna and won the set at 6-4.In the second set both the players again played the marvelous game of tennis with the combination of excellent cross-court and down the lines. Sarah took the lead of 5-3 by breaking the 8th game of Aman, but Aman fought back bravely and managed to level the score 5 games all by breaking the 9th game of Sarah. In the 11th game, Sarah took the serve advance and again developed the winning lead 6-5. In the 12th game, Aman was unable to maintain her confidence and hit two double faults. Sarah took the advantage and comfortably broke the game and won the set and match at 6-4 7-5. Sayyed Mubasshar Tauqir Shah Addl. Top seed Sarah Mahboob Khan and Aman Ali Qayum qualified for the Ladies’ final after beating their respective opponents in well-contested semifinals.In the first semifinal, top seed Sarah Mahboob Khan struggled hard to win her match against upcoming Natalia Zaman from Karachi in a three-set match. Ahmad Nael Qureshi earned the vital lead 4-2 by breaking the 1st and 5th games but Saqib bounced back brilliantly and levelled the set 6-6. The set was decided in the tie break which was won by Qureshi 7-3. In the second set, Saqib Hayat exhibited an excellent game of tennis changed his strategy, got the lead 4-2, and continued the same pace won the second set at 6-4, and leveled the match 1-1 all.In the final set, Saqib Hayat continued his winning lead 4-2 by breaking the 1st and 3rd games but was unable to hold his winning streak against the youngster Ahmed Nael Qureshi who not only changed his pace of the game but also played aggressively and hit excellent cross court and down the lines helped him to levelled the set 5 games all.By holding the 11 games took the lead 6-5 and in the 12th game Saqib, Ahmad Nael Qureshi was in full form and did not allow his opponent to settle down and won the game at 15-40 and finished the match by winning the set at 7-5 and qualified for the quarter-final for which he will face 2nd Seed Aqeel Khan. Ahmad Nael Qureshi surprises seventh seed Abdullah Adnan in straight sets 2-0Sports Bulletin ReportISLAMABAD: Except 7th seeded, Abdullah Adnan, the rest of the seeded tennis players moved into the second round of the Men’s Singles event of the 36th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships after beating their respective opponents at Abbas PTF-SDA Tennis Complex, Garden Avenue, Islamabad Tuesday. The best encounter of the day was between upcoming youngsters Ahmad Nael Qureshi and Abdullah Adnan in which Ahmad Nael Qureshi ousted the seventh seed lad in a well-contested straight-set match. In the first set, Ahmad Nael built up the winning lead 4-1 by breaking the 3rd and 5th game of Abdullah Adnan. Both the players exhibited excellent game of tennis. Abdulah bounced back by winning the 6th and 8th game and reduced the lead 4-5. At this point, Ahmad played aggressively and hold his serve in the 10 game and finished the first set at 6-4. In the second set Ahmed again played brilliantly and build the winning lead 4-2 by breaking 3rd game of Abdullah. In the 8th game both the players showed their prowess which lasted in favour of Abdullah and levelled the match 4 games all. Ahmed Nael show his supremacy and hitting excellent down the lines and cross court and break the 11th game to build up the lead 6-5 and by holding the 12th game finished the match at 7-5.
