Punjab Claim Independence Day Men's and Women's Basketball Titles
Islamabad (Press Release): Punjab emerged victorious in both the men's and women's categories of the Independence Day Inter-Provincial Basketball Championship, organized by the Pakistan Basketball Federation (PBBF) at Liaquat Gymnasium, Pakistan Sports Complex, Islamabad.In the men's final, Punjab lifted the title after a hard-fought victory over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), securing a win with a score of 69-68 points. Abdullah scored 22 and Mohammad Taimour scored 15 points for winning side while Umer Khan scored 15 points for KP. Meanwhile, Islamabad A secured third place by defeating Islamabad B in a closely contested match at 67-62.On the women’s side, Punjab dominated the finals, overwhelming Islamabad A with a commanding 64-17 victory. Ayman Ali and Sana were standout performers, contributing 16 and 12 points respectively to Punjab's triumph. In the third-place match, Sindh outplayed Islamabad B, winning 50-29.  The closing ceremony of the five-day championship was graced by Federal Secretary Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Nadeem Irshad Kayani and Director General of the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Yasir Pirzada as chief guests. Also in attendance were president of the Pakistan Basketball Federation Brig (Retd) Mohammad Iftikhar Mansoor, Secretary General Khalid Bashir, Senior Vice President Imtiaz Rafi Butt, President of the Federal Basketball Association Ejaz Rafi Butt, Secretary General Ouj e Zahoor, Azam Dar, and other distinguished personalities.

KPK vs Punjab Men’s, Punjab vs Islamabad Women's Final on Wednesday
Abdul Jabbar FaisalISLAMABAD: Punjab’s both teams men’s and women’s qualified for the finals after beating their respective opponents in the semifinals of the Jashan-a-Azadi Inter-Provincial Basketball Championships here at Laquiat Gymnasium, Pakistan Sports Complex on Tuesday. Also, KPK’s men and Islamabad’s women storm into the finals, as both the finals of the tournament will be played on Wednesday (August 14, 2024) at the same venue.In the first Women’s semifinal, Punjab defeated Sindh 64-32. Punjabi females were leading 40-13 at the half-time. Khadija Mushtaq scored 17 points, and Aiman Mahmood scored 16 points for Punjab, and played a vital role in team’s victory, while Maryam scored 10 points and Aqsi scored 9 points for Sindh. In the second semi-final, Islamabad A defeated Islamabad-B by 36-24 after an interesting match. Maria scored 12 points and Amani scored 7 points from Islamabad- A, while Shanzey scored 9 points and Shahbano scored five points from Islamabad-B. In the men's first semifinal, Punjab beat Islamabad-A by 81-56. The score at half-time was 41-28 in favor of the winning team. Mohammad Taimur scored 22 points and Mohammad Saifullah scored 21 points for the winning team, while Ali Hamza Kazmi scored 23 points and Mohammad Usman scored 7 points for Islamabad-A.In the second Semifinal, Khyber Pakhtunekawa (KPK) thrashed Islamabad-B 70-51 to confirm their berth in the final. Abdul Wahab 23, Bilal Khan 10 were major contributors to KPK. Haroon Rashid 15, Behram Raees 10 were the top scorers for the losing side Islamabad-A. Matches were supervised by Mohammad Praim Shahzad, Moazzam Naveed Rao, Mohammad Mudassar, Yasir Ghafoor, Umar Mehmood, Adeel S Raza, Gul Jamal, Naveed Ahmed Beeda and Saadat Jahangir. Brig Mohammad Iftikhar Mansoor, President Pakistan Basketball Federation and sizeable spectators also witnessed the matches.

Independence Day: Islamabad A, Punjab, KPK, Islamabad B reach semifinals
Sports Bulletin ReportISLAMABAD: Islamabad A, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), and Islamabad B moved into the semifinals of the Men’s event of the Independence Day Inter-Provincial Men's and Women's Basketball Championship after winning their respective matches at the Liaquat Gymnasium, Pakistan Sports Complex Islamabad on Monday.In the women’s category, the semifinals will take place on Tuesday. The first match, Punjab will meet Sindh, followed by a clash between Islamabad A and Islamabad B. The championship is being held under the supervision of the Federal Basketball Association (FBBA).In the men’s category, Islamabad A will face Punjab in the first semifinal, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will go head-to-head with Islamabad B in the second semi-final.On the final day of the pool round, Sindh's women's team secured their place in the semi-finals with a 45-18 victory over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Sindh’s Shafa Afzal, Aqsa Hanif, and Maryam Zahid each contributed 10 points. In another match, Punjab dominated Balochistan with a resounding 78-8 win, driven by standout performances from Khadija Mushtaq (22 points) and Nilofar Helen (17 points).Both finals, men's and women's categories will take place on August 14 at the same venue.

Independence Day Basketball: Islamabad show sparking performances
Sports Bulletin ReportISLAMABAD: Hosts Islamabad-B, Sindh in Women's and Islamabad B & A in Men's outclassed their opponents on the second-day pool matches of Independence Day Inter-Provincial Basketball Championships being organised by Pakistan Basketball Federation (PBBF) here at Liaquat Gymnasium, Pakistan Sports Complex.Islamabad-B thrashed Balochistan Basketball Women team with score of 35 points as Islamabad-B won the match with 45-10 points. Shanzey scored 16 points, Shahbano Ikram scored 11 points for winning side while Faiza Khan and Laib Khan scored 06 and 02 points respectively from Balochistan Women team. In second match Sindh Women team defeated Islamabad-A by 59/39 score. Aisha Ijlal-25, Hareem Zahid-7 points scored for Sindh while Amani Khan -16 and Mahrukh Alvi scored 07 points for losing side Islamabad-A Women Basketball team.In men category Islamabad-B defeated Sindh Basketball team 74-64 score. Haroon Rashid-18 Ahmed Isnaan scored 14 points for Islamabad-B while Mohsin Riaz scored 13 and Mohammad Azhar scored 12 points for losing side.In the second match of men’s category, Islamabad-A defeated Balochistan by 83-44 points. Ali Hamza Kazmi-19 and Jabran Asif Khan scored 18 points respectively from Islamabad-A. While Jamal Khan 27 and Ahmed Nawaz scored 12 points for losing side Balochistan Basketball men’s team.All matches were supervised by Gul Jamal, Saadat Jehangir, Moazzam Navid Rao, Naveed Ahmed Beeda, Adeel S Raza, Muhammad Praim Shahzad and Muhammad Mudassar. The event is one of the series for the promotion of basketball in the country being organised under the supervision of the Federal Basketball Association. It is pertinent to add here that teams from Punjab, Sindh, KPK, Balochistan, and Islamabad Men & Women are participating for a five days Championships.

Independence Day Basketball Championship: Punjab, KPK post victories
Sports Bulletin ReportISLAMABAD: Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) in Men´s, Islamabad A, and Punjab in Women outclassed their opponents in the first leg of Pool matches of the Independence Day Inter-Provincial Basketball Championships organized by Pakistan Basketball Federation (PBBF) here at Liaquat Gymnasium Pakistan Sports Complex.On the first day of the five-day championship, in the men’s event, Punjab thrashed Islamabad B with a margin of 42 points as Punjab won the match with 89-47 points. Safiullah scored 26 points, Mohammad Abdullah scored 20 points for the winning side while Mohammad Umer and Ahmad Ihsan scored 10, 10 points respectively for Islamabad.In the second match, KP defeated Islamabad A by 3 points in a nerve-jangling encounter, as the score was 73-70 points on the final whistle. Abdul Wahab 23, Umer Khan scored 18 points for KP while Usman Awan scored 20 and Raja Farhan scored 10 points for the losing side.In the women’s category, Islamabad A defeated Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by 51-32 points with a sparking performance of Asma Khan, who scored 12 points while her teammate Maruf Alvi scored 8 points and played a vital role in the Islamabad victory.In the second match, Punjab defeated Islamabad B by 67 points against 43 points. Ayman Mehmood of Punjab scored 17 points, Khadija Mushtaq scored 14 points for Punjab while Shanzlye Bibi scored 9 points for the losing side.

PBBF Announces Independence Day Basketball Championship Schedule
Mohammad Azam DarISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Basketball Federation (PBBF) has announced the schedule for the Independence Day Inter-Provincial Basketball Championship for Men and Women, set to commence on Saturday (August 10, 2024) here at the Liaquat Gymnasium, Pakistan Sports Complex.According to Ouj-e-Zahoor, the organizing secretary of the championship and the general secretary of the Federal Basketball Association (FBBA), all arrangements have been completed for the successful five-day championship. The event is being organized under the supervision of the Federal Basketball Association in collaboration with the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB).He further informed that this year is especially significant as it's the first time a Woman's Inter-Provincial Basketball Championship is being organised. Six teams in both men's and women's events have been divided into two pools. In the men's event, Pool A includes Punjab, Sindh, and Islamabad (B), while Pool B comprises Balochistan, KP, and Islamabad (A). Similarly, in the women's event, Pool A includes Punjab, Balochistan, and Islamabad (B), and Pool B includes Islamabad (A), KP, and Sindh.Ouj-e-Zahoor stated that in order to select the men and women teams from the Federal Capital Territory trials were conducted and promising sportspersons were shortlisted for training camp. The inaugural match of the championship will be played between Punjab and Islamabad (B), while KP will compete against Islamabad (A) in the first round. The event is a celebration of Independence Day and aims to showcase the country's basketball talent, with over 170 sportspersons and officials participating in the championship.He also said that the semi-finals of the championship would be played on August 13, while the final on August 14 at the same venue to mark the celebration of Independence Day.

Sports Bulletin ReportISLAMABAD: The Independence Day Inter-Provincial Basketball Championships for Men’s and Women’s will commence from August 10, 2024 at the Pakistan Sports Complex Islamabad.According to the Secretary General of the Pakistan Basketball Federation (PBBF), Khalid Bashir, the five-day championship is being organized at Liaquat Gymnasium under the auspices of the Federal Basketball Association (FBBA) with support of the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB). The event is a celebration of Independence Day aiming to showcase the country's basketball talent.The championship will feature men's and women's competitions, with teams from Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Balochistan and Islamabad Capital Territory will be competing for the championship title. Over 170 players and officials will take part in championship.“All arrangments of the championship have been finalized as Federal Basketball Association (FBBA) will supervise the event`` Khalid said, adding that the federation is doing their best to promote the basketball in the country.

PBBF forms New Scrutiny Committee for Karachi Basketball Association
ISLAMABAD (PR): The Pakistan Basketball Federation (PBBF) has formed a new Scrutiny Committee to investigate the affairs of the Karachi Basketball Association (KBBA) and evaluate the affiliated basketball clubs.Initially, Mahfooz-ul-Haq was appointed as the chairman of the committee. However, due to personal reasons, he excused himself from the position. Consequently, the PBBF reconstituted the committee, appointing Mohammad Ashfaq as the new chairman. The committee also includes Islam Khan Niazi and Wasim ur Rehman as members.The newly formed committee has been tasked with thoroughly scrutinizing the operations and governance of the KBBA. The PBBF has expressed confidence that the committee will conduct a comprehensive review and submit its findings in a timely manner.

Pakistan WAPDA overcome Pakistan Air Force 68-67 in a nerve-jangling finalAbdul Jabbar FaisalKARACHI: Pakistan Wapda overcame Pakistan Air Force (PAF) with the margin of solitary point 68-67 in the final of the All Pakistan Mohammad Majid-Abdul Nasir Memorial Basketball Tournament, which concluded on Sunday at Siddique Memon Sports Complex Karachi.In the final, both teams displayed exceptional skills, tenacity, and battle till the final whistle. Wapda, however, did well in the last quarter, securing a thrilling 68-67 points victory. Zainul Hassan of Wapda was the hero of the final, producing a sparking performance with 34 points, while his teammate Mohammad Israr added 10 points. Despite a valiant effort from PAF, Wapda’s dominance in the closing stages proved decisive. Umair Jan led the scoring for PAF with 26 points, followed by Umair Siddiqui with 12 points.Managing Director of United Medical and Dental College Dr. Bilal Faiz was the chief guest of the concluding ceremony, who presented the winning trophy to the captain of the Pakistan Wapda team. Pakistan Basketball Federation (PBBF) Secretary General Khalid Bashir, Karachi Basketball Association (KBBA) President Mohammad Yaqoob, Tournament chief organizer Dr. Umer Daraz Khan, PBBF Associate Secretary Yaqoob Qadry, and the other dignitaries were also present on this occasion.Earlier In the third position match, Punjab Rangers secured a convincing 72-61 points victory against Islamabad. It is important to mention that Mohammad Majid and Abdul Nasir represented Pakistan in basketball. They served the basketball as the players and officials at national and international levels.

All Pakistan Basketball: Islamabad, Rangers march in Semifinals
Sports Bulletin ReportKARACHI: Islamabad and Punjab Rangers have confirmed their berths in the semifinals of the ongoing All Pakistan Mohammad Majid and Abdul Nasir Memorial Basketball Tournament at Siddique Memon Sports Complex Karachi, which is being played under the umbrella of Pakistan Basketball Federation (PBBF).On the fourth day of the pool round matches, Islamabad boys continued their journey of another consecutive victory in the tournament pool round matches by defeating Sindh Yellow by 52-14 points to qualify for the semifinal round. Ali Kazmi was the top player for Islamabad, who scored 19 points while Momin Javed scored 15 points. For Sindh Yellow Daniyal Khan scored 08 points for the losing team.Top team Wapda also continued their outstanding performance to move ahead in top-four stage along with PAF, Rangers and Islamabad, as they thrashed Punjab Rangers in the last pool round match by 82-71 points. Kaleemullah and Mohammad Israr scored 22 and 17 points respectively. Sindh Whites outclassed Balochistan in the third match on day four by 87-46 points.Pakistan Wapda will face Islamabad in the first semifinal which will be held on Saturday while Pakistan Air Force will fight against Punjab Rangers in the second semifinal of the memorial tournament.
