RLK Group ITF Masters Championship: Rashid, Nauman reach in semifinals
LAHORE (SBR) Pakistan’s top-ranked ITF senior tennis player, Rashid Malik, continued to demonstrate his exceptional prowess on the court, securing a commanding 6-0, 6-1 victory over Husnain Mirza in the seniors 60+ singles quarterfinals of the RLK Group ITF Masters Championship 2024. Organised by the Punjab Lawn Tennis Association (PLTA), the prestigious tournament is underway at the Sports Board Punjab Tennis Academy, Nishtar Park, Lahore, showcasing remarkable talent from across the nation and beyond. Besides Malik, Nauman Aleem also secured a place in the seniors 60+ singles semifinals, with a hard-fought 7-5, 7-6 victory against Tahir Butt. In the seniors 65+ singles quarterfinals, former Davis Cupper Inam ul Haq displayed his prowess, defeating Kh Abdul Muqeet 6-2, 6-2. M Babar followed with an impressive 6-0, 6-1 win over Raashed Zaheer. In the seniors 35+ singles quarterfinals, Inam Gul delivered a dominant performance, overpowering Mubeen Akram with a flawless 6-0, 6-0 victory. The seniors 40+ singles quarterfinals witnessed exciting matches as Kashif Rehmat comfortably defeated Sameer Noorani 6-2, 6-2, while Tariq Masih swept past Fazal Qadir Khan with a commanding 6-1, 6-0 scoreline. In the seniors 45+ singles quarterfinals, Ahmad Waqas Basit impressed with a decisive 6-1, 6-2 win against Umer Dilshad. Muhammad Asghar displayed resilience in his 6-4, 6-1 triumph over Ahsan Wali, while Shehryar Salamat cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Qadir Nawaz. The competition in the seniors 50+ singles quarterfinals was equally intense. Ahsan Razzaq defeated Mustafa Pirzada 6-2, 6-2, and Irfan Ullah Khan outplayed Anwar ul Haq 6-4, 6-3. In a gripping match, Munir Gill edged past Irfan Ahmad 6-0, 7-6, while Ashar Ali Khan overcame Pervez Hassan 7-6, 6-2. In the seniors 55+ singles quarterfinals, Imran Siddiqui advanced with a commanding 6-2, 6-0 win over Kaffee Siddiqui. The seniors 70+ singles quarterfinals saw Christophe Bureau outlast Kh Khurram in a thrilling 6-4, 7-5 encounter, while M Saeed Ikram Ullah prevailed over Salah ud Din 6-1, 6-1. Finally, in the seniors 75+ singles, Dr Zulfqar Malik dominated Abdul Rauf with a comprehensive 6-0, 6-1 victory, further underscoring the high level of competition in the championship. Kamran Steel Punjab Junior Tennis Championship starts in Lahore
Sports Bulletin ReportLAHORE: The Kamran Steel Punjab Junior Tennis Championship 2024 started here at the Punjab Tennis Academy Bagh e Jinnah on Tuesday, as the Rashid Malik (Tamgha e Imtiaz) SEVP Punjab Lawn Tennis Association (PLTA) graced the opening ceremony as chief guest and inaugurated the prestigious tournament during a colorful opening ceremony.Waqar Nisar Finance Secretary PLTA, Hassan Said, Hassan Said and Nauman Aleem were also present on this occasion. General Council Meeting of Islamabad Tennis Association in Islamabad
ISLAMABAD (PR): The first General Council Meeting of the Islamabad Tennis Association (ITA) was held on March 25, 2024, at here Islamabad Club, chaired by Tariq Mehmood Murtaza, Chairman and President of Islamabad Tennis Association. All the affiliated units of the ITA were present in the meeting except the representative of Islamabad Tennis Complex.The meeting was convened by the stipulations outlined in the Constitution of the Islamabad Tennis Association, with the primary objective of establishing the Management Committee and enhancing the operational cohesion between the Islamabad Tennis Association, its affiliated units, and the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF).In light of Tariq Murtaza's intention to retire from his longstanding service at the ITA due to personal commitments, a proposal has been advanced to nominate Majid Bashir for the position of President of the association. Bashir's distinguished background as an advocate and his extensive experience as the Senior Executive Vice President of the ITA made him a suitable candidate to assume the leadership role within the organization. His commitment to the association's mission and his demonstrated leadership qualities equip him to navigate the challenges and opportunities ahead, ensuring continuity and excellence in the ITA's endeavors.The proposal was met with unanimous approval from the members present, who showed their support for Majid Bashir through a show of hands. This indicates a vote of confidence in Bashir's ability to lead the ITA effectively.Majid Bashir, upon being elected as the new President, expressed his sincere gratitude to the members for their unanimous support. He pledged to dedicate himself to the advancement of tennis in the Capital Territory of Islamabad. Furthermore, he emphasized his commitment to fostering harmony and amicable relations between the affiliated units of the ITA and the PTF. Bashir aims to work towards the development and enhancement of the game of tennis, ensuring its growth and prosperity within the region.

Ali Embroidery Mills Junior National Tennis Championship commences
Sports Bulletin ReportLAHORE: The Ali Embroidery Mills Junior National Tennis Championship 2023 started at the Sports Board Punjab Tennis Academy, Nishtar Park Lahore, with a vibrant opening ceremony on Sunday.Punjab Lawn Tennis Association (PLTA) Secretary, Rashid Malik (Tamgha-e-Imtiaz), graced the event as the chief guest and formally inaugurated this prestigious tournament. During the colorful opening ceremony, Malik praised Ali Embroidery Mills Pvt Ltd for their significant contributions to the promotion of tennis in the country. He acknowledged the generous support of Ali Embroidery Mills' CEO, Tariq Zaman, in not only organizing national tournaments but also conducting the High-Performance Tennis Camps, which are playing a pivotal role in enhancing the skills of top players, who have gone on to achieve national and international recognition for their country. The first day of the championship witnessed more than 20 matches, with top players securing comfortable victories, showcasing a high standard of tennis throughout the day. In the boys U-18 1st round, standout performances included Mohammad Shaheer Khan's 6-0, 6-0 victory over Hanzla Anwar, Yafat Nadeem's 6-1, 6-1 win against Hassan Ali (GC), Ali Talha's 7-5, 6-2 victory over Abdullah Pirzada, Haider Ali Rizwan's 6-2, 6-0 triumph against Mohammad Sohaan Noor, and Abubakar Khalil's 6-1, 6-2 win over Abdur Rehman Pirzada. In the Boys U-16 qualifying round, Awais Ali Ansari emerged victorious with a 6-2 score. For the Boys U-14 1st round, Amir Mazari (Aitchison) defeated Ahmad Khuda Bakhsh 4-0, 4-0. Mohammad Shakaib secured a 4-2, 4-1 win against Awais Ali Ansari, Bilal Awais outperformed Hassan Alam with a score of 5-3, 4-0, Abdur Rehman defeated Essa Bilal 4-0, 4-0, and Hamza Ali Rizwan claimed a 4-0, 4-0 victory over Mohammad Rehan. In the Boys/Girls U-12 1st round, Taha Asad won with a score of 5-4, 4-0, and Mohammad Umar Ali defeated Essa Khan Malik 4-0, 4-0.

Hamza Roman outplays Mohammad Hamza Aasim 2-0 in Boys’ Under-18 finalAbdul Jabbar FaisalISLAMABAD: Hamza Roman overpowered Mohammad Hamza Aasim 2-0 to clinch the Under-18 Boys’ Singles title of the Islamabad National Junior Tennis Championships 2023, which concluded at PTF-SDA Tennis Complex Islamabad on Saturday. In the Girls Under-18 Singles finals, Amna Ali Qayum got rid of Zunaisha Noor 2-1 in a well-contested three sets contest with the final score-line of 1-6, 6-3, and 6-2.In the first set of the Boys’ Under-18 final, Hamza Roman exhibited top-class tennis and played some powerful forehand and backhand drives, which were not returnable. He did not allow his opponent Mohammad Hamza to settle his feet on the court. Hamza Roman won the first set without conceding a solitary game. His drop shorts were also applaudable.Later, in the second set, Mohammad Hamza showed some resistance and displayed shining tennis, as the second set went up neck-to-neck till 3-3, as both players held their respective serves. It was a well-contested set in which both players locked the horns. A large number of spectators enjoyed the game of both teenagers in the Aqeel Khan Centre Tennis Court of Pakistan Tennis Complex. Finally, Hamza Roman won the final with the score-line of 6-0, and 6-4.         Saeed Ahmad Khan, Senior Vice President (SVP) Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) graced the closing ceremony as chief guest, and distributed prizes among the winners and runner-ups of different category competitions. Tennis News: High Performance Tennis Training Camp concludes
Sports Bulletin ReportLAHORE: The Sports Board Punjab’s High Performance Tennis Training Camp concluded here at the SBP Tennis Academy.On this occasion, Director, Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Punjab Shahid Zaman has said that a sustainable sports calendar and strategy are being devised and this working will be beneficial to a great extent for the future of sports in the province. He said this while talking to the media at the concluding ceremony of the Sports Board Punjab’s High Performance Tennis Training Camp here at the SBP Tennis Academy. Director Youth Affairs Syed Umair Hassan, Punjab Lawn Tennis Association (PLTA) Secretary and Camp Commandant Rashid Malik (Tamgha-e-Imtiaz) and a large number of young tennis players, coaches and officials were also present on this occasion. Speaking on this occasion, Secretary Sports Shahid Zaman said that the sports of the Punjab province has been put in the right direction. “We have organized several sports events and training camps in the recent past and this positive practice will continue in future as well under a systematic manner.” He added that the preparation of biennial sports calendar is in progress and this sports calendar will continue to benefit players in future. “An effective sports strategy is being carved out to promote sports culture and bring out new talent from across the province.” He said that the SBP High Performance Free Tennis Training Camp has played a key role in improving the game of young players. “This camp was organised to provide an opportunity to young tennis players to improve their games and skills. The camp probables must utilize the valuable training and techniques they have learnt under the supervision of expert coaches at the camp in their future competitive events.” Camp Commandant Rashid Malik, on this occasion, expressed his gratitude to Secretary Sports Shahid Zaman, Director General Sports Punjab Dr Asif Tufail and his entire team for organizing High Performance Free Tennis Training Camp. “Secretary Sports Shahid Zaman has been fully cooperating with us for the promotion of tennis in the province. This camp will benefit the talented youth of Punjab in the long run and help in sharpening their skills, who, in return, will win laurels for their province and the country at higher level.” At the prize distribution ceremony, Secretary Sports Shahid Zaman distributed cash prizes and shields among the players, coaches and officials participating in the camp. Camp Commandant Rashid Malik, Davis Cupper Coach Heera Ashiq, Ahmed Babar, Imran Bhatti, Camp Coordinator Faheem Siddiqui and Physical Trainer Syed Azhar Hussain were also handed handsome cash prizes by the chief guest. Notably, as many as 36 boys and girls of different age groups participated in the one and half month-long SBP High Performance Tennis Training Camp that was organized under the supervision of qualified coaches such as Davis Cupper Heera Ashiq, Ahmed Babar and Imran Bhatti under the able supervision of SBP Head Coach Rashid Malik.
