Pakistan overcome Iran 2-1 in 3rd position play-off in Colombo on SundaySports Bulletin ReportColombo (Sri Lanka): Pakistan tennis players claimed bronze medal in the BNP Paribas World Team Cup Wheelchair Tennis Asian Qualification Event after beating Iran 2-1 in 3rd position play-off at Colombo Sri Lanka on Sunday. Iqbal Issak president Sri Lanka Tennis Association graced the closing ceremony as a chief guest. Japan's both male and female teams won the gold and qualified for World group event.Non-playing captain, Mohammad Khalid Rehmani said: “It is the first time ever Pakistan reached at victory stand and won bronze”. Islamabad Tennis Association Triumphs at ITF Master Tournament
Dubai (UAE): The Islamabad Tennis Association (ITA) has secured a remarkable victory at the ITF Master Tournament held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). ITA Chairman Tariq Murtaza and Secretary Tufail Cheema clinched the Senior Doubles title in the 70+ event, showcasing outstanding performance throughout the tournament.Murtaza and Cheema dominated the competition, securing the title by winning all four of their round-robin matches and earning four points. In their final match, they defeated Marian Mocon (POL) / Danut Sturzolu (ROU) in straight sets with a 6-3, 6-3 victory.Their journey to the title included the following wins:First Match: Defeated Mridul Barkatoti / Surinder Mohan Sharma (IND) – 7-5, 6-3Second Match: Received a walkover against Dieter Kuhnert (GER) / Ponnuchamy Paramasivam (IND)Third Match: Overcame the strong Indian pair George Thomas Puthuparambil / Sulumaran Veettil in a thrilling three-set battle – 6-2, 6-7(3), 10-5Final Match: Defeated Marian Mocon (POL) / Danut Sturzolu (ROU) – 6-3, 6-3This victory is particularly impressive as it marks the first time this pair has competed in an international event outside Pakistan.Other Notable Pakistani PerformancesIn addition to Murtaza and Cheema’s triumph, other Pakistani players also delivered remarkable performances:Hamid ul Haq, former Davis Cup player and captain of the Pakistan team, won the 55+ Doubles title and was runner-up in the 60+ Singles event.Rashid Malik (Pride of Performance) reached both the 60+ Singles and Doubles finals but, unfortunately, had to withdraw due to the serious illness of his elder brother.Inam ul Haq & Nisar Waqar secured the 65+ Doubles title.Nisar Waqar also finished as runner-up in the 70+ Singles event.The Islamabad Tennis Association (ITA), along with its President Majid Bashir, Senior Executive Vice President Muhammad Arif Qureshi, and members of the Islamabad Tennis Club, congratulated Tariq Murtaza, Tufail Cheema, and other Pakistani players for their outstanding performances and for bringing laurels to Pakistan. Junior National Tennis Championship to start on Monday
Sports Bulletin ReportLAHORE: The Millat Tractors Junior National Tennis Championship 2025 will commence on Monday at the Punjab Tennis Academy, Bagh-e-Jinnah, Lahore, showcasing the vibrant talent of young tennis players from across Pakistan. The tournament has received an overwhelming response, with over 200 entries across 10 competitive categories, reflecting the growing enthusiasm for tennis nationwide. The categories include boys U18 singles and doubles, girls U18 singles, boys U14 singles and doubles, girls U14 singles, boys U12 singles, girls U12 singles, boys/girls U10 (Punjab ranking), boys/girls U8 (Punjab ranking) and boys/girls U6 (Punjab ranking). Punjab Lawn Tennis Association (PLTA) Senior Executive Vice President Rashid Malik extended his heartfelt best wishes to all participants, applauding their dedication and full competitive spirit. He remarked, “The enthusiastic participation of players from every corner of Pakistan is a proof of the growing passion and love for tennis in our country.” Malik also expressed his gratitude for the generous support provided by Millat Tractors, emphasizing their pivotal role in organizing the national junior tennis event. “The invaluable support from the corporate sector enables us to host a record number of tennis tournaments throughout the year. The score-line was just 6-3, and 6-2.The closing ceremony was graced by HE Ladislav Steinhubel, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Pakistan, as the chief guest, and the Senator Salim Saifullah Khan, Patron PTF, as the guest of honour. The ceremony was also attended by prominent figures including Anwar Saifullah Khan, Javed Saifullah Khan, Usman Saifullah Khan, Asad Saifullah Khan, and Qamar Zaman ex-Chairman NAB, Hassan Baig, Tufail Cheema -Secretary-ITA, Col. Gun & Country Club Open Tennis Championships: Rohan Noori wins Double Crowns
Sports Bulletin ReportIslamabad:The Gun and Country Club Open Tennis Championships came to a thrilling conclusion, with Rohan Noori emerging as the champion in both the Men's Singles and Boys' Singles events.In the Men's Singles final, Rohan Noori defeated Adil Farooq from Islamabad Police in an exciting match, securing the title with a score of 8-5.Noori's double triumph was sealed when he won the Boys' Singles final, beating Mahd Mehmood with a score of 8-4.In the Ladies' Singles event, Shiza Sajjid took the title by defeating her younger sister, Lala Rukh, in a thrilling final with a score of 8-6.The three-day tournament featured over sixty players competing in various events. Islamabad (PR): The semifinals of the Gul& Country Club Open Tennis Championships were held at the Gun Club courts in Islamabad, paving the way for a thrilling final on December 31, 2024.In the men's singles event, Roman Noori and Adil Farooq secured their spots in the final. Noori defeated Khan Jabbran with a convincing 8-4 win, while Farooq dominated Imtiaz Ahmad 8-1.In the ladies' singles, Shiza Sajjid and Lala Rukh emerged victorious, advancing to the final. Sajjid displayed exceptional skill, defeating Nawal Imtiaz 6-0.
