Young tennis player, Zainab Ali Naqvi passes away in Islamabad
Abdul Jabbar FaisalISLAMABAD: Young tennis girl Zainab Ali Naqvi (17) from Karachi passed away on Tuesday, who was here to participate in the ITF Pakistan Khawar Hyat Khan Memorial World Junior Championship Leg-1 at PTF SDA Tennis Complex, Garden Avenue Islamabad, at a local Guest House due to cardiac arrest.According to an official of the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF), Zainab Ali Naqvi- a young tennis player who had come to Islamabad from Karachi to participate in the ITF Juniors Tournaments, passed away last night on 12th February 2024 in Islamabad.Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi President-PTF, Senator Salim Saifullah Khan, Ex-President-PTF, PTF Council members, and the tennis fraternity at large offer their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. May Allah bless the departed soul with eternal peace in Jannah-ul-Firdaus, Aameen.The matches of the ITF Juniors were postponed as a mark of respect in memory of Miss Zainab and will be played on Wednesday with the same schedule. A Joint DUA was offered and one minute silence was observed by all the foreign and Pakistani players, parents, coaches, and the PTF Officials and staff.

On Sunday, Pakistan lost Doubles and a reverse single match.The Indian duo of Saketh Myneni and Yuki Myneni outplayed Aqeel Khan and Muzammil in straight sets 2-0 with the score-line of 6-3, and 7-6. Later on, in singles, India's Niki Poonacha defeated Mohammad Shoaib in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 to extend his country's lead to 4-0.

Ramkumar overcomes Aisam 2-1 in a thrilling three sets contest at grass courtsAbdul Jabbar FaisalISLAMABAD: The Indian tennis team earned a 2-0 lead against Pakistan in the Davis Cup Tennis Tie World Group 1 play-off, which started at the grass courts of Aisam Tennis Arena, Pakistan Sports Complex Islamabad on Saturday. Ramkumar Ramanathen, and Sriram Balaji claimed victories for India. The Doubles’ and two reverse singles will be played on Sunday (February 4, 2024) at the same venue.In the first singles, Ramkumar Ramanathen won the toss and decided to serve first, as he hit the first serve in the net, however, the Indian guy played an aggressive game and won the first game without conceding a solitary point. Both players exhibited top-class tennis in the first set and maintained their respective serves till 6-6. Aisam won the first set on tie-break at 7-3 by smashing a couple of aces.After losing the first set, Ramkumar changed his strategy and broke the first game of Aisam without conceding a single point. He maintained the same pace in the second game and finished in a similar style without losing any points and made the score 2-0. Aisam bounced back in the set by breaking the 4th game of his challenger to square the set point 2-2. Both players retained serves in the rest of the eight games. The score was one again level at 6-6. This time Ramkumar won the set on a tie-break to level the match at 2-2.In the decisive set, Aisam did not feel well owing to his injury and during the set, he got three minutes of a medical break. Ramkumar finished the third set 6-0. The final score-line of the match was 7-6 (7-3), 6-7 (7-4), 6-0.  In the second match, Sriram Balaji defeated Aqeel Khan in straight sets 2-0 at the same venue. The final score-line was 7-5, and 6-3.

Aisam to face Ramkumar in the opening fixture of the World Group 1 Play-offAbdul Jabbar FaisalISLAMABAD: The Davis Cup Tennis Tie World Group 1 play-off between traditional rivals nations Pakistan and India will get underway here at the grass courts Aisam Tennis Arena of the Pakistan Sports Complex on Saturday, as ace national tennis player, Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi will face Ramkumar Ramanathen in the opening fixture.Referee Javier Moreno Perez announced the Draws on Friday at a local hotel. Pakistani tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq will take on Ramkumar Ramanathen of visiting team in the first single of the Davis Cup Tennis Tie while Pakistan number one Aqeel Khan will meet Shriram Balaji in the second encounter of the day.On the second day, the duo of local tennis lads, Muzammil Murtaza pairing with Barkatullah will lock horns with Indian pair Yuki Bhambri, and Saketh Myneni in the Doubles fixture. Sports Bulletin ReportISLAMABAD: Three teenager tennis players, Hamza Roman, Mikaeel Biag, Abubakar Talha, have been selected for the Pakistan Under-16 Boys’ team for the Pre-Qualifying Event of the Aisa /Oceana Davis Cup Under-16 Junior fixture, which will be played from February 19 to 24, 2024 in Sri Lanka.According to an official of Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF), the players have been picked-up after conducting trials at SDA-PTF Tennis Complex. Hamza Roman, Mikaeel Biag, and Abubakar Talha produced acceptable performance during the trials.
