National Amateur Golf Championship to start on Thursday at MGGC
Abdul Jabbar FaisalISLAMABAD: Secretary, Pakistan Golf Federation (PGF), Sajid Akram on Wednesday formally announced that the 63rd National Amateur Golf Championship would be teed off on Thursday here at Margallah Green Golf Club (MGGC), as 197 male and female players would show their golf skills during the 4-day championship.While unfolding the details of the championship ex-army man, Sajid Akram further divulged to a handful sports journalists from twin cities Rawalpindi and Islamabad in a press conference at the venue that the competitions would be held in five different categories including Stoke Play Amateur (Seniors & Ladies), Inter Associations (Men’s & Seniors), International Team Match (Men’s), International Team Match (Women’s), and J R Jayewardene Trophy.Sajid further said, “Capital Smart City group is sponsoring this prestigious gold event in Pakistan. A three-man Sri Lanka team will participate in the Jayewardene Trophy, as all members of the team have arrived here. Afghanistan team did not arrive due to domestic issues, “he concluded.

National Women’s One-Day Tournament starts on Wednesday
Lahore (PR): The industrial city of Faisalabad is ready to host the expanded and rebranded National Women’s One-Day Tournament, which kicks off on Wednesday. Until last season, the 45-over competition was contested by three sides – Blasters, Challengers, and Dynamites – under the Pakistan Cup Women’s Cricket Tournament banner.This year, the Pakistan Cricket Board, in its continued endeavor, support and promotion for women’s cricket, has included six regional sides for the competition that will be held in a double-league 50-over format, guaranteeing each side, at least 10, matches. The six regional sides competing in the event, which carries a total prize money of PKR2.245 million, are: Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Peshawar, Quetta, and Rawalpindi.The top two sides after 30 league matches will progress to the final on 11 May, with the winning side lifting the silverware and collecting a PKR one million cheque. The venues for this important event are Jawad Club Cricket Ground, Iqbal Stadium, and Bohranwali Cricket Ground, with Saeed Ajmal Academy Ground as the reserve venue.Omaima Sohail will captain the Karachi Region, Lahore will be led by Kaynat Hafeez, Saima Malik will skipper Quetta, Humna Bilal will lead Multan, while Gull Rukh and Mahnoor Aftab will captain Peshawar and Rawalpindi, respectively.Fixtures for Wednesday: Quetta vs. Rawalpindi, Jawad Cricket Club Ground; Karachi vs. Multan, Iqbal Stadium; Peshawar vs. Lahore, Bohranwali Cricket Ground.Fixtures for Friday: Quetta vs. Peshawar, Iqbal Stadium; Lahore vs. Karachi, Jawad Club Cricket Ground; Rawalpindi vs. Multan, Bohranwali Cricket Ground.

Salam Gul hails Mohammad Fawad’s performance in the Australian Junior

His coaches Tahir Iqbal, and Munawar Zaman toiled hard day and night with my son. I thank the Bank of Khyber (BOK), Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF), and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Squash Association (KPSA) for supporting my son. Pak-New Zealand T20I Series: PCB reveals Match Officials
Sports Bulletin ReportRAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) today announced match officials for the Pakistan versus New Zealand five-match T20I series, which will roll into action on April 18 at Pindi Cricket Stadium Rawalpindi.According to media department of PCB, Andy Pycroft, a member of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, will lead the playing control team that includes five umpires, namely Ahsan Raza (elite panelist), Aleem Dar, Asif Yaqoob, Faisal Afridi and Rashid Riaz (all from the ICC’s international panel), who will share umpiring responsibilities.The Pindi Stadium will stage the opening three T20Is on 18, 20 and 21 April before action will move to Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium where the last two matches will be played on 25 and 27 April.Umpire and match referee appointments:18 April – First T20I. Father Thomas and Son Patrick become US Masters Champions
Sports DeskISLAMABAD: Thomas Bedore and Patrick Bedore became the first father and son champions after winning the titles of the US Masters together in the 112-year history of the National Singles of Unites States of America (USA).The Bedore family’s historic performance follows an already impressive 2023 tournament where Thomas–a five-time champion–reached the 65+ semifinals and Patrick reached the 35+ final. Newly aged into the 70+ division as the two seed and coached by his son, Thomas came back from 2-0 down against top seed Richard von Hirschberg to clinch the title 10-12, 9-11, 11-7, 11-1, 11-6. In the last final of the day, Patrick avenged his 2023 35+ final loss against Ashraf Yassin in a close final 16-14, 13-11, 11-9 to capture his first national title.

World Junior Squash: Pakistan to defend men’s single title
Sports Bulletin ReportISLAMABAD: There are just three months to go until this year’s WSF World Junior Squash Championships, which are taking place in Houston Squash Club, Houston Texas United States of America (USA) from July 12 to 23, 2024. This year’s championships, which will comprise of an individual and team competition, will feature concurrent men’s and women’s team events for the first time in event history.Last year’s championships, which took place in Melbourne, Australia, Egypt’s Amina Orfi won her second individual title and led Egypt to victory in the team event, while Hamza Khan ended Pakistan’s 37-year wait for a title in the men’s individual event. The last edition of the men’s team event took place in Nancy, France in 2022, where England defeated Egypt 2-1.

Pakistan Cricket Board names women squad for West Indies Series
Sports Bulletin ReportKARACHI: Five women cricketers have been recalled to the white-ball squads as the National Women’s Selection Committee, led by Saleem Jaffar, announced 16-member ODI and T20I squads against West Indies women’s team.The three ODIs – part of ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25 - will be played between 18 and 23 April, while the five T20Is will take place from 26 April to 3 May.
