UET Taxila organizes PM Youth Sports Handball Talent Hunt Trials in AJK
Report: Mohammad Azam DarISLAMABAD: The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Taxila organized the Prime Minister (PM) Youth Sports Handball Talent Hunt Program at Mirpur University Sciences and Technology (MUST) Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) under the banner of Higher Education Commission (HEC).According to an official, the men’s trials of handball were held from January 22 to 23, 2024 at the City Campus in MUST Mirpur AJK aiming to dig out young talent of handball. The talent hunt program contained extensive trials and assessments to identify the most promising male handball players.It is pertinent to mention here that more than seventy (70) players appeared in the two-day trials from Mirpur and its surrounding areas. After hectic trials and competitions showcasing the participant's skills and teamwork, the promising and budding 17 players were selected to represent the Mirpur region in the league to be announced by the HEC later on.Vice Chancellor MUST, Brig. Prof Dr. Younis Javed, SI (M) graced the occasion as chief guest, and the opening ceremony of the talent hunt was also graced by the presence of esteemed guests including Brig. Prof. Dr. Younis Javed, SI (M), Director Business School, Prof. Dr. Zafar Ahmed, Treasurer, Dr. Khalique Ahmed, Abid Hussain, Director Sports, MUST, Umer Mehmood, Secretary General, Rawalpindi Handball Association, Dawood Siddiqui and sizeable spectators. Mohammad Akmal Hussain, Director Sports, UET Taxila was the Organizing Secretary. Akmal Hussain, Organizing Secretary presented a shield to the chief guest on the occasion.Major Jehangir Ahmed, MUST University was the chief guest in the closing ceremony on 23rd January, 2024. The chief guest said that such initiatives were significant to provide opportunities to youth to excel and national and international levels in the field of sport
National Ice Hockey included in GB Winter Festival
Abdul Jabbar FaisalISLAMABAD: The 7-day Winter Festival will start on January 15 in Gilgit Baltistan (GB), as the National Ice Hockey Championship will also be part of the festival for the first time in the history of the annual winter sports and cultural fixture, Tourism Minister GB, Ghulam Mohammad announced this in a press conference at a local hotel along with Planning Minister Raja Nasir, Vice President Pakistan Winter Sports Air Commodore Retired Shahid Nadeem, Additional Chief Secretary Captain Retired Mushtaq Ahmed and Secretary Tourism Asifullah Khan.Tourism Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Ghulam Mohammad further said that tourism was being raised in Gilgit-Baltistan through sports in all four seasons. “All ten districts of Gilgit-Baltistan will take part in the ice hockey and other local sports aiming to organize to attract tourists from all over the world to Pakistan. It is the responsibility of the people and government of Gilgit-Baltistan to stage cultural events including sports, “he added.Vice President Winter Sports Shahid Nadeem said: “I have an old relationship with Gilgit-Baltistan and I have been performing my duties in Naltar. The federation had started the ice hockey championship in Gulkan after leaving Naltar. Whatever winter sports event is held in Gilgit-Baltistan, there is a rush of domestic and foreign local tourists. Gilgit-Baltistan people should lead the same way as other events are being led. Sports Federation's effort is to take our athletes to the Asian Games and 2026 Olympic Games and make Pakistan's name shine”.Secretary Tourism Gilgit-Baltistan Asifullah Khan said: “The second edition of the seven-day festival is being organized, which will be unique this time. The four seasons of Gilgit-Baltistan have their own distinct beauty and we are trying to show this charming beauty to the tourists. We organized the Sarfa Ranga Festival in the fall and now we are going to do the Winter Festival. This seven-day festival is being organized in all ten districts of Gilgit-Baltistan”.“The glaciers of Gilgit-Baltistan are decreasing. The effects of environmental changes are clearly visible in Gilgit-Baltistan for which no one is responsible but we all are. We want to highlight winter sports more in GB. Gilgit-Baltistan culture and old games are being re-introduced. We are organizing with the cooperation of Winter Sports Federation of Pakistan. National Ice Hockey Championship including various winter events are being organized in ten districts, “he concluded.

Rawalpindi Division’s girls win U-16 Inter-Division Table Tennis title
Sports Bulletin ReportLAHORE: Rawalpindi division girls’ table tennis team stunned the strong Lahore team by 3-2 in the final of the Under-16 Talent Hunt Programme Inter-Division Table Tennis Championship team event at Nishtar Park Sports Complex (NPSC) Gymnasium Hall on Wednesday.Lahore team remained runners up while Sahiwal team finished third in the event organised under the auspices of Punjab Sports Department as part of Sports Board Punjab's Annual Sports Calendar Programme.Dr Qurra-tul Ain was the Chief Guest on this occasion. Director Sports Yasmeen Akhtar, Punjab Table Tennis President Irfanullah Khan, Chief Sports Consultant Hafeez Bhatti, administrator NPSC Gymnasium Hall Mustafa Shah and other officials were also present on this occasion.Dr Qurra-tul Ain distributed prizes among the top position holders. The participating male and female table tennis players and officials also had group photographs with the chief guest. DG Sports Punjab Dr Asif Tufail also congratulated the winning team.Earlier, in the first semi-final of the girls' team event, Rawalpindi Division defeated Sahiwal by 3-0 and qualified for the final. In the second semi-final of girls, Lahore Division reached the final after defeating Multan by 3-1.Lahore defeated Multan by 3-1 in the first semi-final of the boy's team event while in the second semi-final, Bahawalpur defeated Faisalabad a margin of 3-2 and qualified for the final.

Blind Goalball Team to visit China to participate in Goalball fixture

All Pakistan Inter Board Futsal Championship starts in Islamabad
Sports Bulletin ReportISLAMABAD: Eleven matches have been decided on the opening day of the All Pakistan Inter Board Futsal Championship, as the match between Islamabad and Faisalabad ended 3-3 draw at Pakistan Sports Complex, Islamabad on Friday. Dr. Ghulam Ali Malah, Executive Director, Inter Board Coordination Committee (IBCC), inaugurated the 3-days event.Chairman, Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Rawalpindi, Mohammad Adnan Khan, Secretary, Inter-Board Coordination Committee, Mohammad Buksh, and others officials including Shamashad Ali, Mohammad Fahmeed, Malik Suhail, Raja Sarwar, and Rana Abid were also present on the occasion. Eleven teams from all over Pakistan are taking part in the Championship and divided into two groups. Two teams from each group will qualify for the semifinals. 11 Pakistani Athletes to participate in the Para Asian Games 2023

Sarfaranga Cold Desert Jeep Rally to start on October 6, 2023
Sports Bulletin ReportISLAMABAD: Secretary of Tourism Gilgit-Baltistan Asifullah Khan has revealed that a three-day Sarfaranga Cold Desert Jeep Rally would be held from October 6 to 8, 2023.He further said in a press conference at the local hotel that there would be many new activities along with tourism sports and women would also be involved in the activities.“This will be the fifth edition of the annual jeep rally on the highest and coldest desert in the world and on the highest mountains. On the way to the rally, there is also the most beautiful view of the Indus river belt, this year Sarfaranga Desert Jeep Rally has a total length of 80 kilometers and this year the theme of the rally will be “Go Green” which means boycotting all kinds of plastic, ‘he added.On this occasion Shagar Waliullah said: “The role of the community is important to maintain the law and order situation, along with the police, the community has also been trained”.Shamil, who played an important role in the Jeep Rally, said that the purpose of such events was to provide an opportunity to the media so that they could convey the message to the people, and promote tourism in Pakistan.The prize money of the Sarfaranga rally will be 7 million while the number of women participating in the rally will be 5 this time. The purpose of organizing the rally is to promote tourism in Pakistan.

World Combat Games: 130 Saudi Athletes to participate in mega event
Sports Bulletin ReportRiyadh (Saudi Arabia): As many as127 male and female athletes will be presenting home side in the upcoming World Combat Games 2023, which will be held October 20-30 in the capital city of Riyadh.According to details, the Saudi capital will host the competitions in King Saud University Arena, where Saudi athletes hope to win medals with medals from this global sporting event, SPA reported.The Saudi teams comprise 87 male athletes, 40 female athletes, and 56 technical and administrative staff. Host athletes will compete in 12 sports including Aikido, Boxing, Fencing, Judo, Jiu-Jitsu, Karate, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Sambo, Taekwondo, Wrestling, and Wushu.

Ghani Ur RehmanPESHAWAR: The Higher Education Department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Peshawar Division has decided to organize a women's sports festival at the college level in a comprehensive way aiming to provide an opportunity for talented women to excel and the national level as well as international level.Regarding the organization of the Sports Festival” an extraordinary meeting was held yesterday at Government Girls Degree College Zaryab Colony Peshawar, which was presided over by President of Sports Committee and Principal of Girls Degree College Zaryab Colony Nehayat Saif. Arshad Hussain Deputy Director of Sports Higher Education Department, Roshan Zahra Principal Frontier, College for Women, Dr. Prof. Tahira Dar Principal City Girls Degree College Gulbehar, Sports Lecturers Najma Naz Qazi, Ruhina Tabasum, Sadia, Hijab, Gul Sanobar Ikhlas and Noor Haya, principals and teachers of 24 different colleges participated in the meeting.It is decided that female colleges, cricket, and athletics competitions will be held at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University while Badminton competition will be held at Girls College Charsadda No.1, Volleyball event will be held at Tajo Bibi Charsadda Degree College, Table Tennis will be held at Bacha Khan Girls College, Netball and Basketball competitions will be held at City Girls College. In Gulbahar, Handball Frontier College, Throwball Gulshan Rahman College, and Tchoukball Tournament will be played in Girls College Nahaqi. Similarly, Asian-style Kabaddi has been included in women's sports for the first time. Various committees have been formed for the better organization of these competitions, for which the principal of Government City Girls College Gulbehar Professor Tahira Dar is the president of the sports committee, Najma Naz Qazi is the secretary, the executive committee is the principal Nehayat Saif, Roshan Zahra, Noor Haya, Shaista Shakeela, and Gul Sanobar Ikhlas, while the technical committee includes Gul Sanobar Ikhlas, Sadia, Amna, Afsheen Gul, Shah Gulon, and Najma Naz Qazi. The final date for these competitions will be announced soon.
