WAPDA and Army reach in National Basketball semifinals

SPORTS BULLETIN REPORT Islamabad:-Defending champions WAPDA and Pakistan have confirmed their berth in the semifinals of the ongoing National Women’s Basketball Championship and winning their respective matches here at Liaquat Gymnasium, Pakistan Sports Complex on Wednesday. Army girls are still unbeatable, as they continued their journey of consecutive victory in the championship pool round matches by defeating Islamabad blues by 55-26 points to qualify for the semifinal round. Kashifa was the top player for Army, who scored 17points while Ayesha Khan scored 15 and Amna Mohsin earned 9 points. For Islamabad Blues Amani Khan scored 08 points with Mominah Ahmed adding points for the losing team. Defending champion Wapda also continued their outstanding performance to move ahead in top-four stage, as they thrashed Karachi by 62-6 points. Hijab Fatima and Sidra Hakim scored 11 points each while Amina Mukhtar scored 9 points. Lahore outclassed KPK in the third match by 31-04 points. KPK failed to make a single point till half time where Lahore was leading by 17 points. Huraina Sajjad and Feroza Aslam scoring 10 and 08 points respectively for the winning side In the fourth match, Karachi defeated Islamabad Whites by 30 points to 14 and booked their place for the semi-final round as well. In the match, Hiba Faraz of Karachi played a key role in the success of the team by scoring 12 points while Laiba tabraiz khan scored 08 points for the winning team.

WAPDA and Army earn victories National Basketball

SPORTS BULLETIN REPORT Islamabad:-Defending Champions WAPDA and Pakistan Army thrashed their opponents Islamabad white and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa respectively in the ongoing National Women’s Basketball Championship at Liaquat Gymnasium, Pakistan Sports Complex Islamabad. Eight teams including defending champion Pakistan Wapda, Karachi, Rawalpindi, Islamabad whites, Pakistan Army, Lahore, Islamabad Blues and Peshawar are taking part in the five days championship which will be concluded on October 07th organized by the Federal Basketball Association. In the first match, Army claimed an easy encounter against KPK by 73-14 points. Ayesha Khan scored 16 points while Fajar Fatima 12 while Amna Bibi scored 10 points for Army. In the second match, Defending champions Pakistan Wapda beat Islamabad by 81-16 in a single sided affair. Amina Mukhtar scored 15 and Hijab Fatima scored 14 points for the winning team. In the third match, Karachi outclassed Rawalpindi 15-6. Hiba Faraz scores 8 for the winning side.

Islamabad claim first victory in Basketball Championship for Women

SPORTS BULLETIN REPORT Islamabad:-Islamabad Blues outclassed Lahore in their first match of the National Women’s Basketball Championship that started at Liaqat Gymnasium, Pakistan Sports Complex Islamabad on Monday. Director General Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Col. (R ) Asif Zaman was chief guest at the opening ceremony while Counsellor of the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic Melis Moldaliev, President, Pakistan Basketball Federation (PBBF) Brig. (R ) Iftikhar Mansoor, Secretary General, PBBF Khalid Bashir, Deputy DG Pakistan Sports Board Mansoor Ahmed Khan Sherwani, championship organizing secretary Ouj-e-Zahoor and other dignities and sizeable spectators were also present on this occasion. In the opening match, Islamabad Blues beat Lahore 48-41 after a close contest. Some outstanding moves made it possible for Islamabad to make a comeback during the 4th quarter to win the important match. Asma Bibi and Aimal played an exceptional game scoring 18 and 12 respectively while Yaqoob Qadri, Tariq Nawaz, Gul Jamal and Mohammad Alam supervised the match.

IPC Minister to inaugurate Basketball for Women Championship

SPORTS BULLETIN REPORT Islamabad:-Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Ehsan Ur Rehman Mazari will inaugurate the National Women's Basketball Championship starting from October 3, 2022 at Pakistan Sports Complex Islamabad. Top eight teams from around the country will be in action in five days championship hosted by Federal Basketball Association (FBBA) under the umbrella of Pakistan Basketball Federation (PBBF). “All arrangements have been completed for organizing the successful championship where top eight teams taking part in the event have been divided into two pools”, said championship organizing secretary and Federal Basketball Association General Secretary Ouj-e-Zahoor. “Pool "A" comprises defending champion Pakistan Wapda, Karachi, Rawalpindi and Quetta while Pool "B" includes teams from Pakistan Army, Lahore, Islamabad and Peshawar. Pakistan Day Basketball: Islamabad Bulls beat Islamabad Raptors by 69-57

Abdul Jabbar Faisal ISLAMABAD:-Islamabad Bulls overcame Islamabad Raptors with 69-57 score in an exhibition match regarding the Pakistan Day Celebrations that held under the aegis of Federal Basketball Association (FBBA) in Collaboration with Capital Development Authority (CDA)/Municipal Corporation Islamabad (MCI). Top Scorer for Bulls was Rizwan with 19, followed by Yasir with 18 and Ahmed with 16. Farhan was the top scorer for Raptors with 22 points. The match was officiated by Yasir Ghafoor, Ch. Nadeem, Umer Mahmood and Rizwan Ul Haq. Qamar ud Din Junejo, Deputy Director Sports & Cultural Department CDA/MCI, Ouj E Zahoor, General Secretary FBBA, officials of CDA/MCI and basketball lovers from the local community witnessed the exhibition match. Ouj E Zahoor, General Secretary FBBA lauded the efforts of Sports and Culture Department of CDA/MCI in providing the sports infrastructure for the promotion of sports which has attracted local youth towards the game of basketball. Qamar ud Din on behalf of Director Sports & Cultural Department CDA/MCI Amir Shahzad and the Deputy Commissioner Mohmmad Hamza Shafqaat thanked FBBA for their efforts to promote the game of Basketball and announced that they would always have sports facilities available for FBBA to organize activities in Islamabad. The best-of-three playoff series opens on November 9

SPORTS DESK Islamabad (November 5, 2021):-The Doosan Bears won the Wild Card series and will face the LG Twins in the best-of-three semi-playoff series. The winner will face the Samsung Lions for a chance to challenge the regular season winners KT Wiz in the Korean Series. The KT Wiz topped the Samsung Lions, 1-0, in a tiebreaker game to win the regular season title of the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) league. The two clubs shared the same record (76 wins-59 losses, with 9 draws) after the 144-game regular season. As the league champions, the Wiz advance directly to the Korean Series finals, while the Lions will skip the first two rounds of the postseason and play in the playoff series to earn a chance to challenge the Wiz in the Korean Series. The KBO postseason opened on Monday, 1 November, with the Wild Card series between the fourth and fifth place teams. The fourth-place Doosan Bears started with a 1-0 advantage over the fifth-place Kiwoom Heroes. The Heroes forced a game 3, defeating the Bears, 7-4, in front of over 12,000 fans at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul. The Bears came back to win the rubber game, 16-8. The Doosan Bears will now play against the LG Twins in the semi-playoff series. The winner will advance to the playoff series against the Samsung Lions. The best-of-three playoff series opens on Tuesday, 9 November. The best-of-seven Korean Series opens on Sunday, 14 November. An eventual game seven is scheduled for Monday, 22 November. All games will be played at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul.

Tanner Houck beats Shane Baz in MLB pitching

News Desk ISLAMABAD (October 12, 2021):-The Olympic silver medalist Shane Baz made his first Major League Baseball (MLB) postseason start on Friday, 8 October. The 22-year old right-hander took the mound for the Tampa Bay Rays against the Boston Red Sox in game two of the American League Division Series. His outing didn't last long. Baz allowed three runs on six hits over 2.1 innings of work. Five more Rays pitchers couldn't handle the Boston lineup, and the Rox Sox earned a 14-6 win and tied the series to one. Baz made his MLB debut on 20 September, pitching five strong innings for the Rays against the Toronto Blue Jays. He earned the win and did even better against the Miami Marlins on 26 September, going 5.2 innings, striking out nine and earning another win. Baz started for the United States in the Tokyo 2020 game against Japan on 2 August. He went 2.2 innings, allowing two runs on five hits. Japan beat the US 7-6 in 10 innings. Another international baseball alumnus made the headlines. Tanner Houck earned the win for the Boston Red Sox, pitching five strong innings out of the bullpen. The 25-year old right-hander allowed only one run on two hits while striking out five. "I definitely had little butterflies at first, but once I got out there and threw my warmup pitches, I felt like I was pretty comfortable," Houck told the MLB website. Houck started two games for fourth-place USA at the WBSC Premier12 2019. He allowed four earned runs on seven hits over 9.1 innings of work. One of the two hits off Houck was by replacement first baseman Ji-Man Choi. The 30-year old Korean slugger has spent his whole professional career in the United States. Nonetheless, he had his stint at international baseball, representing Korea in the U-12 and U-18 WBSC Baseball World Cups.

Heidenheim wins German national baseball championship

Sports Desk ISLAMABAD (October 11, 2021):-Heidenheim defeated the Bonn Capitals, 3-1, in the best-of-five final series. Veteran pitcher Enorbel Marquez earned MVP honours. The Heidenheim Heidekoepfe won the 2021 Bundesliga, the top league in German baseball. In the best-of-five final series, Heidenheim defeated the Bonn Capitals, three games to one, to claim their sixth overall German title. Heidenheim is now second In the all-time ranking, tied with the Paderborn Untouchables, behind the Tornados Mannheim (11 titles). They outscored Bonn in game four, 11-2, to claim the title. The Capitals avoided the sweep with an 8-3 win in the third game of the series. The winners met for the fifth consecutive time in the final series, with Heidenheim winning four of the five. Bonn only prevailed in 2018. Veteran left-hander Enorbel Marquez-Ramirez (Heidenheim) was named the MVP of the final series, while Drew Janssen (also Heidenheim) earned best pitcher's honours. Wilson Lee (Bonn) earned the best hitter's title
