Federal Cup: Mohammad Shoaib, Sarah Mehboob grab titles
Sports Bulletin Report ISLAMABAD (December 10, 2022): Second seed man, Mohammad Shoaib and top seed lady, Sarah Mehboob have clinched the men’s & women’s Singles titles of the 35th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships after beating their opponents in the finals here at PTF-SDA Tennis Complex on Saturday. In the Men’s Singles Final, 21-year-old, 2nd seed Mohammad Shoaib of PAF registered an upset victory after toppling top-seed Aqeel Khan in a thrilling, see-saw match which lasted over 1 hour 35 minutes 7-5, 3-6, (retd) to win the Championship. Shoaib got off to a flying start, taking a 2-0 lead, but Aqeel fought back to draw level, Shoaib again break the 11th game of Aqeel and took the lead 6-5 and by holding the 12 game, finished the set at 7-5. In the second set, after a few closely fought games, Aqeel took complete control of the game and won 6-3, as the deciding set was expected to see some exhilarating tennis but due to injury Aqeel Khan left the match in favour of Shoaib Khan. Earlier in the day, in the Ladies Singles Sarah Mahboob beat Noor Malik 6-2 (Retd.) Although expectations were that the encounter would be closely fought out, but Noor Malik left the match due to her elbow injury. Sarah was awarded a cash award of Rs. 40,000 whereas Noor Malik pocketed Rs. 24,000. Heera Ashiq pairing with Yousaf Khalil clinched the Men’s Doubles title by defeating Muzammil Murtaza and Mudassar Murtaza in a well contested three sets match with the score-line of 6-7 (4), 7-5 and 10-6. All the players showed quality tennis and long rallies were witnessed from the base lines. Muzammil & Mudassar won the first set at 7-6(4). In the second set Heera & Yousaf changed the strategy and start attacking on the net and won the second set at 7-5. The match was decided in the super tie break which was won by Heera & Yousaf at 10-6. Tariq Mehmood Murtaza, President Islamabad Tennis Association awarded Cash award of Rs.10,000 and a gold medal to Husanian Mehmood who passed his ITF White Badge Chair Umpire this year. Aqeel Khan and Mohammad Shoaib reach in Federal Cup final
Sports Reporter ISLAMABAD: Pakistan number one tennis player, top seed Aqeel Khan will take on Mohammad Shoaib in the final of the 35th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championship on Saturday after beating their respective rivals Muzammil and Mudassar respectively here at PTF-SDA Tennis Complex on Friday. Top seed Aqeel Khan had to toil hard on the court to overcome his challenger, who gave him tough fight in the three-set thriller. Both players displayed top quality game in this match, as it was high-caliber and remarkable tennis and excellent forehand and backhand drives were witnessed. In the first set, Muzammil ground strokes were prefect in rhythm and he was flawless from the net and out played Aqeel Khan won the first set at 6-4. In the 2nd set, Aqeel Khan bounced back aggressively and gained his strength according to experience player and level the match 1-1 set all. In the final set, Aqeel Khan kept the same pressure and won set and match at score of 6-3 by breaking 2nd game of Muzammil and qualified for the final of Men’s Singles. The match lasted 2 hrs 16 minutes. In the second semifinal, twenty-one years old Mohammad Shoaib outclassed the 6th seed Mudassar Murtaza by playing excellent game of tennis in straight set win 6-4 6-2. Federal Cup: Aqeel Khan overcomes Barkatullah 2-0 in Singles fixture
Faisal ISLAMABAD: Top seed Aqeel Khan overcame Barkatullah 2-0 in the first quarterfinal of the Men’s Single event of the 35th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships at PTF-SDA Tennis Complex, Islamabad on Thursday. The final score-line was 6-1 and 7-5. The top seed Aqeel Khan faced little resistance from 8th seeded Barkatullah. In the opening set, Aqeel served and returned well to finish the set comfortably at 6-1. In the second set which was marked with aces and long rallies and the score went up to 5-5 all as both players held their respective serves, Aqeel broke the eleventh game of Barkat by hitting some winners down the line forced out Barkatullah in 7-5. The 4th seed Muzammil Murtaza conveniently won his encounter against upcoming proficient Abdullah Adnan 6-2, 6-3. The 6th seed Mudassar Murtaza qualified for the semifinal when 3rd seed Mohammad Abid retired hurt due to injury at 5-0 in the first set. Benazir Bhutto Shaheed National Tennis Championship to start on December 12
Sports Bulletin Report ISLAMABAD: The 8th Benazir Bhutto Shaheed National Tennis Championship will start on December 12, at Islamabad Tennis Complex (ITC), here. According to an official of ITC, over 300 men and women players will participate in the championship, as the 13 competitions will be held including men’s singles, men’s doubles, ladies singles, Boys Under-18, Girls Under-18, Boys Under-14, Girls Under-14, Boys and Girls Under-12, Boys and Girls Under-10, Special Child, Senior doubles 45 plus, Senior doubles 60 plus and media open event. Kamran Khalil will perform the duties of the tournament director, as the draws of the championship will be announced on December 11, 2022 at the championship venue. The qualifying round will be played on December 12 and the semifinals on December 17. The Final will be played on December 18 at the same venue. The championship will be played under the supervision of the Islamabad Tennis Complex and in Collaboration with Sindh Sports Board.

Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis: quarterfinals line-up completes
Faisal ISLAMABAD (December 7, 2022): Aqeel Khan, Barkatullah, Abdullah Adnan, Yousaf Khalil, Muzammil Murtaza, Mohammad Shoaib, Mudassar Murtaza and Mohammad Abid advanced into the quarterfinals by winning their respective matches at the 35th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships at Syed Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex, Garden Avenue, Islamabad on Wednesday. Unseeded Abdullah Adnan caused the major upset of the day when he defeated experienced 7th seed Heera Ashiq in a well contested straight-set match 7-6(5) 6-4. Both the players exhibited good game of tennis, but in the 8th game Heera Ashiq struggled hard to save the game after 5 deuces. The set was decided in a tie-break which was won by Abdullah Adnan 7-4. In the second set both the players again displayed good tennis and reached 4-4 all. In the crucial 9th game, Heera hit two double faults and lost the game. In the 10th game Abdullah played very well and won the 2nd set 6-4 and qualified for the quarter-final. Top seed Aqeel Khan was in excellent form and eliminated Ahmed Nael Qureshi in a straight match 6-3 6-0. 2nd seed Muhammad Soahib also comfortably won his encounter against Asadullah Khan 6-2 6-2; Mohammad Abid did not allow his opponent in the court and brushed off Baqar Ali in straight sets 6-1 6-0.  Muzammil Murtaza and Mudassar Murtaza were also too good to win their matches in straight sets.   Senator Salim Saifullah Khan President Pakistan Tennis Federation visited the PTF Complex, interacted with the players and officials of the tournament, and witnessed some matches. Federal Cup: Aqeel Khan and other seeding players advance into Round-II
faisal ISLAMABAD: Besides top seed Aqeel Khan, 16 players have jumped into the second round of the Men’s Singles event of the ongoing 35th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships at Syed Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex, Garden Avenue, Islamabad on Tuesday.  The best encounter of the day was between upcoming youngsters Ahmed Nael Qureshi and Sami Zeb Khan, both from Islamabad.  Ahmed Nael Qureshi won the match in a well-contested three-set match. In the first set, Sami Zeb was leading 5-2 by breaking the 3rd and 7th games of Qureshi and grabbed the 1st set by holding his own serve of the 8th game. In the second set, Qureshi changed his game plan and played aggressively to take up the lead 5-1 by breaking 2nd, 4th, and 6th games of Khan. At this point, Qureshi lost his 7th game by hitting some unforced down the lines but in the 9th game, Qureshi wrapped up the set at 6-3 and leveled the match 1-1 set all. In the final set, Qureshi again changed his pace of the game and build up the winning lead without conceding a single game by breaking 1st, 3rd and 5th games of Khan. In the 2nd round Qureshi will face top seed Aqeel Khan in the pre-quarterfinal tomorrow (Wednesday) at the same venue. Eddie Herr International Championship: Haniya wins bronze
Sports Bulletin Report ISLAMABAD: Rising Pakistan’s 12-year-old tennis girl, Haniya Minhas has won the bronze in the international tennis tournament, held in the United States of America (USA). Haniya progressed through this prestigious tournament, by winning the 1st round. Her outstanding performance in the Quarterfinal match was 6-0, 6-4. Then she put up an impressive competition against her opponent and ended up winning bronze at Eddie Herr International Junior Championship. Over 2000 players participated at the Eddie Herr Junior Championship where Haniya Minhas secured a remarkable place for Pakistan among 90 countries. She started training on 22 August 2022 that was followed by a continuous series of remarkable successes at Little Mo International Championship in New York, USA. Haniya Minhas said: “My current tour of the USA has been an exhilarating experience, as I have been able to train more professionally and out-perform all my worthy competitors, in my first tournament. My special gratitude goes to my country Pakistan that I represent from whole of my heart and the BARD Foundation as they have supported my sporting endeavors for so many years.” Mehreen Dawood said: “Haniya is another international athlete emerging from Pakistan. I congratulate her for making such a great achievement at a very young age. Federal Cup Tennis Championship: Eight players qualify for the main draw
Sports Bulletin Report ISLAMABAD: Abdullah Hanan Khan, Baqar Ali, Abdullah Adnan, Daisuke Unemi (Japan), Mohammad Azeem Khan, Jibran-ul-Haq, Major Suleman and Hasam Khan qualified for the main draw of men’s singles by winning their respective matches on the opening day of 35th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships 2022, at Syed Dilawar Abbas & Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) Tennis Complex Islamabad on Monday. A total number of 40 matches were decided on the qualifying day. The main draw matches will be played on Tuesday. As many as 20 players were accepted directly into the main draw as per PTF National Ranking whereas 4 Wild Card and 8 qualifiers completed the draw of 32. Top seed Aqeel Khan (WAPDA), Mohammad Shoaib, Mohammad Abid, Muzammil Murtaza, Yousaf Khalil, Mudassar Murtaza, Heera Ashiq and Barkatullah are already in the main draw, which will be rolled into action on Tuesday at the same venue.
