Tennis News: PTF finalizes team for Davis Cup Tie against Indonesia
Asiam to lead Pakistan squad, includes Aqeel Khan, Mohammad Shoaib, Mohammad Abid, BarkatullahSports Bulletin ReportISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) has finalized the national team for the upcoming Davis Cup Tennis Tie against Indonesia, which will be played next month at Grass Courts of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) in the premises of Pakistan Sports Complex (PSC).According to an official, Mohammad Shoaib, Mohammad Abid, and Barkatullah became part of the national team after producing acceptable performances in the trials, which were held at Grass Courts of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) from August 16 to 21, 2023. Tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Pakistan number one Aqeel Khan were exempted from trials. Aisam will be playing captain of the Pakistan team.As many as seven players including Mohammad Shoaib, Mohammad Abid, Yousaf Khalil, Mudassir Murtaza, Barkatullah, Abdullah Adnan and Heera Ashiq took part in the trials, as per PTF National Ranking while USA-based Mujtaba Ali Khan was given a Presidential Wildcard. After an exciting and tough competition, Mohammad Shoaib, Mohammad Abid and Barkatullah have been selected for the Pakistan team.The training Camp for the Davis Cup tie will start on September 1, 2023 at the same venue. PTF names national team for Davis Cup Tie against Lithuania

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) has named the national tennis team for the upcoming Davis Cup Tie, which will be played against Lithuania at SEB Tennis Arena in Vilnius on February 3 and 4, 2023.
According to an official of PTF, Pakistan team will consist of ace tennis star Aisam ul Haq Qureshi (Playing Captain), Aqeel Khan, Mohammad Shoaib, Mohammad Abid and Bilal Asim. Muzammil Murtaza, who had qualified for the team, would regrettably not be available for this tie, as he had to travel to the USA for other prior commitments.
The training Camp will start on 16th January 2023, at the PTF-SDA Tennis Complex, and will continue till the team's departure.

ISLAMABAD (January 5, 2023): Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) picked up three players team for the juniors’ Davis Cup Under-16 Qualifying Round Tennis Tournament after conducting 2-day trials here at PTF-SDA Tennis Complex Garden Avenue on January 2 and 3, 2023.
According to an official of PTF, eight players were invited for the trials as per their ranking and performance, and Hamza Roman, Nadir Reza Mirza and Abubakar Talha have been selected for the team on their sparking performances. Pakistan’s number one tennis player Aqeel Khan will accompany the team as a non-playing captain-cum-coach.
Junior Davis Cup Qualifying Event is scheduled to be held in Kazakhstan in May next year 2023. Senator Salim Saifullah Khan President PTF congratulated the selected players and wished them good luck and advised them for displaying better performance in the junior’s international tennis showpiece.
Davis Cup: Pakistan to face Austria on September 16, 2022

ISLAMABAD:-Pakistan will face Austria in the Davis Cup World Group 1 tie, which will be held at the Sportland Arena in Tulln an der Donau, Austria, on September 16 and 17, 2002.
According to an official of Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF), the tie will be held on red clay courts, as Pakistani players will reach Austria on the 10th of September, to acclimatize to the playing conditions.
The Pakistan team consists of playing captain Aisam ul Haq Qureshi, Aqeel Khan, Mohammad Shoaib, Muzammil Murtaza and Mohammad Abid while Austrian team consists of Coach Jurgen Melzer and players Jurij Rodionov, Filip Misolic, Gerald Melzer, Lucas Miedler and Alexander Erler.
The Pakistan team has been training at the clay courts of the PTF-SDA Complex in Islamabad since the 22nd of August, to prepare for the tie. President PTF Salim Saifullah Khan conveyed his best wishes to the team and prayed for their success.
Under-16 Junior Davis Cup: National training camp in full swing at Bagh-e-Jinnah

LAHORE:-The training camp of the Boys Under-16 Junior Davis Cup team for the World Group qualifying round matches is in full swing under the supervision of renowned coach Rashid Malik here at the Punjab Tennis Academy, Bagh-e-Jinnah.
The Junior Davis Cup team consists of Bilal Asim, Hamid Israr and M Huzaifa Khan. Both Bilal and Hamid are training hard under the guidance and coaching of Rashid Malik while Mohammad Huzaifa Khan didn’t report to the camp yet.
The training camp rolled into action from April 4 and will conclude on April 8. After that, the national junior team will be leaving for New Delhi on April 9 and the main event will be held from April 11 to 16 at RK Khanna Stadium, New Delhi.
Talking to the media here on Wednesday, team captain Rashid Malik (Tamgha-e-Imtiaz) said: “The camp is being conducted in hot weather, where I am trying to train the youngsters well, getting them mentally tough ahead of the big event. But the group this time is very tough. They are thoroughly professional with million-dollar budgets for betterment of tennis. They are spending a lot on their players to train them well and provide them with a good number of ITF events so that they may further excel at higher level.
“There is a dire need for the PTF and government to improve the infrastructure and arrange maximum ITF and ATF events for Pakistani players at home and abroad, so that they may continuously take part in the international events and earn crucial points to improve their international rankings as well as their games and skills,” said the renowned coach, whose aim is to produce tennis champions like he has been doing for the last three decades.
“The PTF should also send the national team to the venue of the event a bit earlier, as the players need to adapt to the conditions and if they practise there, it will further sharpen their chances to give their best against their respective opponents,” said Malik, who will also be defending his ITF Senior 45 plus title in Delhi after the Junior Davis Cup event.
Speaking about his preparation for the mega event, Pakistan No. 1 Under-16 player Bilal Asim said: “Our practice under the coaching of Sir Rashid Malik is going well as we are training hard and trying to improve our game and skills. Although the competition is very tough as top tennis playing nations are featuring in it, yet we will try to give tough times to our opponents.”
Another talented player Hamid Israr said: “Sir Rashid Malik has been training us very hard and under his guidance, we are learning well and improving our skills and techniques. The key thing of the camp is that Sir Malik is trying to make us mentally and physically strong and we will try to give tough fights to our respective opponents.”
Aisam and Aqeel gift honour to Pakistan beat Lithuania 3-2 in Davis Cup Tie

ISLAMABAD:-An outstanding performance by Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Aqeel Khan helped Pakistan to overpower Lithuania 3-2 in the Davis Cup Tennis Tie World Group-1 at the gross courts of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) in the premises of Pakistan Sports Complex on Saturday.
Tie was leveled on Friday 1-1, as it was important day for the both teams. Aisam and Aqeel took the Pakistan ahead at 2-1 after winning crucial Doubles fixture 2-1, as lot of ups and down came during the over two hours match. At one stage, in the second set, Green Shirts were down at 4-5 and need to must break the opponents serve.

Davis Cup Tennis Tie: Aqeel overcomes Laurynas 2-1 in the opening Single

ISLAMABAD:-Pakistan number one Aqeel Khan overcame Laurynas Grigelis 2-1 in the opening fixture of the Davis Cup Tennis Tie World Group-1 play-off at the at the gross court of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) in the premises of Pakistan Sports Complex on Friday. Mohammad Shaoib lost to Ricardas Berankis 1-2 after a well contested three set competition.
In the first match of the day, Aqeel Khan defeated Laurynas of Lithuania 2-1 after fighting 1 hour and 47 minutes in the court. Aqeel won the first set on tiebreak, as both players held their serves. Aqeel lost the second set at 3-6, hwoever, he fought back excellently and won the third and final set at 6-3. The match wasted one hour and 47 minutes.
Later, in the second single, Mohammad Shoaib displayed excellent skill of the game but could not finish in the favour of Pakistan. His opponent guy did well in the second set to bounce back in the match. Davis Cup Tennis Tie leveled at 1-1.

Davis Cup Tennis Tie: Aqeel Khan takes on Laurynas in opener

ISLAMABAD:-Pakistan number one Aqeel Khan will take on Laurynas Grigelis in the opening fixture of the Davis Cup Tennis Tie fixture, which is going to kick off from Friday between hosts Pakistan and Lithuania at the gross court of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) in the premises of Pakistan Sports Complex.
Mohammad Shaoib will meet Ricardas Berankis in the second single of the tie. However, Doubles’ event will be taken place on Saturday at the same venue. Ace tennis player Aisam-ul-Haq qureshi pairing with Mohammad Abid will play the match against visitor pair Laurynas Grigelis and Ricardas Berankis.
It is important to mention that the matches will start at 1:00 pm instead of 11:00 am duo to wet surface, as there was a heavy rain spell in the twin cities Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Thursday. Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) has finalizes all the arrangements to stage the Davis Cup Tennis Tie.
