PHF names 18-man team for Paris Olympic Qualifier
Imad Shakeel Butt to lead Pakistan: Green Shirts need to stand on podium to go ParisAbdul Jabbar FaisalISLAMABAD: The National Selection Committee (NSC) of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has announced an 18-player team for the upcoming Paris Olympics Qualifier, which will take place from January 15 to 21, 2024, in Muscat, Oman.Acting head of the NSC Nasir Ali Khan unfolded the squad after the approval of president PHF Tariq Hussain Masuri Bughti after analyzing the performance of players after conducting a day of trials at Naseer Bunda Hockey Stadium, Pakistan Sports Complex Islamabad on Tuesday.It is pertinent to mention here that the head of NSC, Olympian Kaleem Ullah could not arrive here owing to the bad weather and the flight was not available. The other members of the NSC were Olympians Nasir Ali, Rahim Khan, and Leaque Lashari International.Head Coach Shahnaz Ahmed Sheikh said: “We had to submit the names of players according to the rules of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) and we selected the best squad for an international hockey fixture. We picked up 10 players from the juniors’ team which participated in the recently concluded Men’s Junior Hockey World Cup 2023 in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, as this team is a blend of rising young talented lads and experienced. Our team will not only qualify for the Paris Olympics 2024, will also claim the top position in the Muscat tournament”.Tariq Hussain Masuri Bughti said: “We selected the players entirely on merit and our players will perform up to mark in Oman. I congratulate new captain Imad Butt and all the selected players and hope they will toil hard to achieve their target to confirm the berth in Paris Olympics 2024. Players, who cannot get a place in the national squad should not worry, they will get other occasions soon, and I hope our players will produce notable and sparkling performances. Our aim is only to hoist the green flag in hockey areas of the world”.Imad Shakeel Butt said: “This is a great honour for me to lead the national hockey team and I and my all teammates will work hard in the field to overcome the opponents. Ahmad Nael Qureshi surprises seventh seed Abdullah Adnan in straight sets 2-0Sports Bulletin ReportISLAMABAD: Except 7th seeded, Abdullah Adnan, the rest of the seeded tennis players moved into the second round of the Men’s Singles event of the 36th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships after beating their respective opponents at Abbas PTF-SDA Tennis Complex, Garden Avenue, Islamabad Tuesday. The best encounter of the day was between upcoming youngsters Ahmad Nael Qureshi and Abdullah Adnan in which Ahmad Nael Qureshi ousted the seventh seed lad in a well-contested straight-set match. In the first set, Ahmad Nael built up the winning lead 4-1 by breaking the 3rd and 5th game of Abdullah Adnan. Both the players exhibited excellent game of tennis. Abdulah bounced back by winning the 6th and 8th game and reduced the lead 4-5. At this point, Ahmad played aggressively and hold his serve in the 10 game and finished the first set at 6-4. In the second set Ahmed again played brilliantly and build the winning lead 4-2 by breaking 3rd game of Abdullah. In the 8th game both the players showed their prowess which lasted in favour of Abdullah and levelled the match 4 games all. Ahmed Nael show his supremacy and hitting excellent down the lines and cross court and break the 11th game to build up the lead 6-5 and by holding the 12th game finished the match at 7-5. Prime Minister of Australia hosts reception for Pakistan team
Sports Bulletin ReportSydney (Australia): Prime Minister of Australia Anthony Albanese hosted a reception at Kirribilli House, Sydney on Monday in honour of the Pakistan and Australia teams and their respective management.Chairman PCB Management Committee, Mr Zaka Ashraf also attended the event. High Commissioner of Pakistan in Australia, Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri, and officials from Cricket Australia were also present.Prime Minister Australia warmly welcomed both the teams and went on to praise the performance of the Pakistan team, especially in the Melbourne Test. He commended the visiting team’s exemplary conduct during this tour and looked forward to witnessing good cricket in Sydney.Pakistan captain Shan Masood expressed his gratitude to the Australian Prime Minister for hosting the team. Shan highlighted how both teams are playing positive cricket in this series and mentioned that this serves as an opportunity to be an ambassador for your country through your conduct. National Tenpin Bowling Championship to start on January 3, 2024
Sports Bulletin ReportISLAMABAD: The 16th National Tenpin Bowling Championship will roll into action on January 3, 2024 at City Bowling Club Jinnah Park Rawalpindi under the banner of Pakistan Tenpin Bowling Federation (PTBF).According to the president PTBF Ijaz-ur-Rehman, the event will bring together bowlers from across the country to showcase their skills and compete for the prestigious national title. The championship will feature both professional and amateur bowlers, creating a platform for talent development and the promotion of the sport in the country. Bowlers will compete in various categories, including singles, doubles, amateur, deaf male, deaf women, women, inter university, and inter-school, ensuring a high level of excitement throughout the tournament. With the support of the Pakistan Tenpin Bowling Federation, the championship aims to provide a positive and competitive environment for bowlers to compete at their best.This event offers an opportunity for players to demonstrate their dedication, perseverance, and expertise in the sport. As the national governing body for tenpin bowling in Pakistan, the federation is dedicated to promoting and developing the sport at all levels. The concluding ceremony of championship will be held on January 7, in which prizes will be delivered to the winning players.

National Tennis: Aqeel Khan and Sarah Mehboob win crowns

FIFA MA Elite Referee Course 2023 concludes in Lahore
Sports Bulletin ReportLAHORE: Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) with assistance from FIFA, conducted a five-day Member Associations Elite Refereeing Course 2023 at Football House, Lahore.The course, featuring 30 referees from various regions nationwide, commenced on December 26, 2023, and reached its conclusion today in Lahore.Mohammad Rodzali, a FIFA Referee Development Officer and Khalidi Bin Supian, a Physical Fitness Instructor from Malaysia dedicated five days to sharing their expertise with a group of 30 male and female referees and instructors. By engaging in theoretical and practical discussions, they facilitated a comprehensive learning experience for the referees. In the closing ceremony, after distributing the certificates among participants Member Pakistan Football Federation Normalisation Committee Mohammad Shahid Niaz Khokhar, said: "I would like to thank Mr Rodzali who came here to teach referees new things according to FIFA and AFC standards. He extended his best wishes to all the participants who not only acquired new knowledge but would also pass it on and officiate in future matches and reinforced the commitment to improving the refereeing landscape in Pakistan. Mohammad Jawadullah hopes to show notable performance in ILT20
Sports Bulletin ReportDubai (UAE): Mohammad Jawadullah, who was a regular in tennis ball cricket, was an unknown entity in the professional cricket circuit until he took part in a nationwide talent hunt for bowlers in April 2022 organized under the watchful eyes of Robin Singh, the coach of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) national cricket team.Rest is history, as he did debut for the UAE national team in both ODI’s and T20I’s in 2023 and he credits his exposure in the DP World International League T20 for propelling his career. “I went into the first edition of the DP World ILT20 without any experience. Once I got to play more and more games, it not only helped me build my confidence but the exposure even helped me to get my first international cap for UAE in both ODI and T20I for the UAE. The learning process hasn’t stopped. I’m looking to get better with every passing day,” he said.The 24-year-old left arm quick spoke about his first time on such a big stage with a great deal of delight. “The DP World ILT20 is a very big tournament and I was indeed fortunate to have been included in the Sharjah Warriors squad for the first edition. This was my first taste of cricket with world-class players. The feeling was surreal and will stay with me for life,” he said. For the Season 2 of Gulf region’s biggest T20 League scheduled to begin on 19 January, Mohammad Jawadullah has been retained by the Sharjah Warriors. He was part of the same franchise in the inaugural edition of the tournament where they finished fifth and will look to help the team better their performance in the forthcoming edition.
