ISLAMABAD:-Karachi Port Trust (KPT) Tennis League started at Islamabad Tennis Complex on Saturday. Around 60 boys and girls from different clubs are participating in the 2-day fixture.
Open Singles (Boys), Open Singles (Ladies), Under 12 and Under 16 Boys and Under 12 and Under 16 Girls events have been included in the KPT Tennis League. The event is being conducted on the round robin system and each player will have to play multiple matches to reach in the semifinal and final rounds.

Remington Stars triumphant in Tower 21 Polo Super League

LAHORE:-Remington Stars carved out thrilling 7-6.5 triumph over Platinum Homes Tigers in the Tower 21 Polo Super League match played here at the Lahore Polo Club ground on Saturday.
Hamza Mawaz Khan was hero of the day from Remington Stars as he played outstanding polo and contributed with four fabulous goals while Bilal Hayat Noon banged in a brace and Basel Faisal Khokhar struck one. From Platinum Homes Tigers, who had a half goal handicap advantage, Amirreza Behboudi fired in five goals while Aleem Tiwana scored one goal.
Remington Stars dominated the match right from the word go as they slammed in two goals each against one each by Platinum Homes Tigers in the first and second chukkers respectively to have 4-2 lead. The third chukker was then dominated by Platinum Homes Tigers, who struck two goals against one by Remington Stars to make it 4-5. Both the teams converted two goals each in the fourth and last chukker with Remington Stars winning the match by 7-6.5.
PGF International Ladies Golf Championship starts at Islamabad Club

ISLAMABAD:-The 5th PGF International Ladies’ Golf Championship started on Friday here at Islamabad Golf Club, as the Rimsha Ijaz and Thitikrn Thapasit earned the lead at the end of Day-1 game. Both were at two over par 74 after 18 holes.
Thitikrn from Thailand scored three birdies on Hole No 8-10 and 12. Rimsha was cool and played his game consistently to reach on top. She also hit birdies thrice time during her 18 holes game.
How is Australian town name Bacchus Marsh linked to Rod Marsh ?

Dennis Lillee's leading tributes at the funeral on Thursday had mention of Bacchus for his departed wicket-keeper friend Rod Marsh.
Interestingly, Bacchus Marsh is a town in Australia and there's a story exclusively described by Australia's award-winning journalist Peter Lalor on how the name Bacchus struck Marsh.
"Once the players were making a trip to Ballarat with the team to play in a charity match. The train stopped in Bacchus Marsh and the great Rod (Marsh) needed to go to the toilet as they were having a few drinks on the trip. Rod had to leave the train and go into the station toilets".
"He reportedly got locked in the toilet and the train went without him. Stuck in the Town where he knew no one he made his way down to the local pub “The court House” where he spent some time with the locals and told stories about cricket. A young man then offered him a lift to Ballarat in his new car. When arriving late to meet his team mates. He told his story and as he was stuck in Bacchus Marsh his teammates found it fitting to Nick Name home Bacchus Marsh", Lalor described the incident.

ISLAMABAD:-Islamabad Bulls overcame Islamabad Raptors with 69-57 score in an exhibition match regarding the Pakistan Day Celebrations that held under the aegis of Federal Basketball Association (FBBA) in Collaboration with Capital Development Authority (CDA)/Municipal Corporation Islamabad (MCI).
Top Scorer for Bulls was Rizwan with 19, followed by Yasir with 18 and Ahmed with 16. Farhan was the top scorer for Raptors with 22 points. The match was officiated by Yasir Ghafoor, Ch. Nadeem, Umer Mahmood and Rizwan Ul Haq.
Qamar ud Din Junejo, Deputy Director Sports & Cultural Department CDA/MCI, Ouj E Zahoor, General Secretary FBBA, officials of CDA/MCI and basketball lovers from the local community witnessed the exhibition match. Ouj E Zahoor, General Secretary FBBA lauded the efforts of Sports and Culture Department of CDA/MCI in providing the sports infrastructure for the promotion of sports which has attracted local youth towards the game of basketball.
Qamar ud Din on behalf of Director Sports & Cultural Department CDA/MCI Amir Shahzad and the Deputy Commissioner Mohmmad Hamza Shafqaat thanked FBBA for their efforts to promote the game of Basketball and announced that they would always have sports facilities available for FBBA to organize activities in Islamabad.
Qamar ud Din gave away the winning Trophy and Rupees 15,000 cash prize to Islamabad Bulls and Rupees 10,000 cash prize to Islamabad Raptors.

LAHORE:-Rising stars Asad Zaman and Omer Jawad claimed three titles each in the Sapphire Punjab Junior Tennis Championship 2022 that concluded here at the Punjab Tennis Academy, Bagh-e-Jinnah Friday.
Asad won his first title by beating Hassan Ali with a score of 6-1, 7-6. He doubled his crowns when he, partnering with Amir Mazari outpaced the pair of Zaeem Ghafoor and Hassan Ali in the boys U-18 doubles final with a margin of 5-4, 4-2. Asad, who is the No 1 U-16 player, completed the hat-trick of titles when he outsmarted Amir Mazari in the boys U-16 final by 6-1, 6-4. Asad thanked his coach and mentor Rashid Malik (ZTBL) for his training and coaching that is helping him excel at higher level and also lauded Tariq Zaman, CEO Ali Embroidery, for his all-out generous support, as without sponsorship, it is not possible to afford the expensive game like tennis.
Omer Jawad also managed a hat-trick of titles as first he defeated Zohaib Afzal Malik by 6-2, 6-1 to claim the boys U-14 title. He doubled his titles, when he, partnering with Ismail Aftab, grabbed the boys U-14 doubles title. They beat the pair of Aalay Hussain and Eesa Bilal 4-2, 4-1. The victory in the boys/girls U-12 final against young and promising Abdur Rehman helped Omer complete the hat-trick of titles. He outclassed Abdur Rehman 6-0, 6-2.
In the girls Under-18 final, talented Ashtafila Arif beat young Hajra Sohail 7-5, 6-3 to lift the title. In the boys/girls Under-10 final, Hajra Sohail (AAA Associates) outpaced Mustafa Uzair Rana 8-2 to clinch the title. In the boys/girls Under-8, Ahsan Bari grabbed gold, Ibrahim Siraj silver and Daniyal Afzal Malik bronze medal. In the boys/girls Under-6, Soha Ali clinched gold, Mamnoon Bari silver and Diana bronze medal.
Hafsa Shayan of Sapphire Textile graced the occasion as chief guest and distributed prizes and shields among the winners and top performers. Other notables present on the occasion were Col (R) Asif Dar, guest of honour, PLTA Secretary Rashid Malik, players and their families and tennis lovers. Malik thanked the Abdullah Family and Sapphire Textile for sponsoring this event and hoped that they will continue to support and patronage this beautiful game of tennis.

Salt Lake City (USA):-The International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) and USA Climbing announced that the IFSC Youth World Championships would be taken place in Dallas, Texas, USA, from 22 to 31 August, 2022.
More than 400 young climbers are expected to gather at Movement Climbing’s The Hill for Boulder, and Summit Plano for Lead and Speed. The athletes will be divided into three age groups – Juniors, Youth A, and Youth B – and compete in the three Climbing disciplines. A computed Boulder & Lead ranking will also be created with the results of the two single disciplines.
Tokyo 2020 Olympic Champions Janja Garnbret of Slovenia, and Alberto Ginés López of Spain, along with legendary climbers such as Noguchi Akiyo of Japan, and Adam Ondra of the Czech Republic, all competed and won at previous editions of the IFSC Youth World Championships, making it an almost-mandatory step to go through for the elite of the Sport Climbing circuit.

“It fills me with pride to see the strong bond that we have built in the last few years with our friends at USA Climbing, establishing Salt Lake City as one of the landmarks of our World Cup Series, and finding new opportunities, first in Los Angeles and now in Dallas. President of Pakistan Open Polo: Diamond Paints and Newage Cables/Master Paints enter final

LAHORE:-Diamond Paints and Newage Cables/Master Paints entered the main finals of the 1st President of Pakistan National Open Polo Championship 2022 sponsored by MidCity after winning their respective semifinals here at the Jinnah Polo Fields on Friday.
Heroics of Guy Gibrat and Max Charlton helped Diamond Paints hammer Remounts by 8-5 in the first semifinal of the day. Both the heroes of the day did the magic with mallets and polo ponies and hammered a hat-trick each. Ahmed Ali Tiwana was the other key contributor from the winning side as he contributed with two goals each. From Team Remounts, Simon Prado fired in four goals while Mumtaz Abbas Niazi scored one goal.
Diamond Paints dominated the match right from the word go as they pumped in two goals each in the first and second chukkers to gain a healthy 4-0 lead. Remounts made their presence felt in the third chukker by banging in a brace to make it 4-2 yet Diamond Paints once again had an upper hand as they thrashed in three goals to gain a healthy 7-2 lead. The fourth chukker was evenly poised as both the sides struck one goal each with Diamond Paints still enjoying 8-3 lead. Remounts though made a good comeback by thrashing in two goals yet it was too little situation for Remounts, as they lost the crucial semifinal by 5-8.
The day’s second match was a nail-biting encounter where Newage Cables/Master Paints held their nerves and overcame spirited Master Paints by a narrow margin of 9-8. Gonzalo Deltour played the heroes’ role in Newage Cables/Master Paints triumph by converting superb seven goals out of total nine. The remaining two goals were pumped in by Vieri Antinori. For Master Paints, Marcos Panelo fired in five goals while Martin Carlos hammered a hat-trick.
Newage Cables/Master Paints were off to a flying start as they banged in a brace to gain 2-0 lead. Just before the end of the first chukker, Master Paints converted one to make it 2-1 and then slammed in one more in the beginning of the second chukker to draw the blood at 2-2. Newage then started aggressive polo which helped them thrash in three back-to-back goals to have a good 5-2 lead. Master Paints bounced back well and fired in four fabulous goals to take a slight 6-5 lead. Newage then converted a beautiful goal to level the score at 6-6.
Master Paints started the fourth chukker by pumping in a field goal to gain a slight 7-6 lead, which couldn’t last long as Newage first smashed in two back-to-back goals to have a slight 8-7 lead and then fired in another crucial goal to enhance their lead to 9-7. Master Paints though tried hard and succeeded in converting a spot penalty to reduce the margin to 9-8, but this was all that Master Paints could get from the match as they lost the semifinal by 8-9.
The main final of the 1st President of Pakistan National Open Polo Championship 2022 sponsored by MidCity will be contested between Diamond Paints and Newage Cables/Master Paints on Sunday.
Karachi Open Squash: Egyptian lads Karim & Youseef set to meet in final

KARACHI:-Duo of Egyptian lads, Karim Abdel Gawad and Youssef Soliman set to meet in the final of Men’s Singles event of the Karachi Open Squash Championship 2022 after beating their respective opponents in the semifinals at DHA Asif Nawaz Squash Complex, Creek Club Karachi.
In the first semifinal, Karim Abdel Gawad outclassed his compatriot Omar Mosaad in straight games 3-0 in just 28 minutes. The final score-line was 11-5, 11-4 and 11-4. However, in the second semifinal Youssef Soliman from also Egypt had to toil hard to overcome Mexican guy 3-1. The final score was 11-2, 11-4, 4-11 and 11-8 and match wasted 44 minutes. Final will be played on Saturday at the same venue.

ICC Cricket World Cup: West Indies beat Bangladesh by 4 wickets

ISLAMABAD:-The West Indies recovered from a batting collapse to defeat Bangladesh by just four runs in Tauranga as the two sides played out a rollercoaster first ODI meeting of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022.
A defiant unbeaten 53 from Shemaine Campbelle saw the Windies recover from 70 for seven to post 140 as Bangladesh’s spinners suffocated the middle order.
Afy Fletcher brought the West Indies back as she helped to reduce the opposition to 60 for five but Bangladesh battled back to take the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022 league match to the final over before falling just short.
Deandra Dottin was the first to fall for 17 when she was caught behind off the bowling of Jahanara Alam who celebrated jubilantly before captain Nigar Sultana took a fantastic catch above her head to dismiss the other opener Hayley Matthews for 18.
That gave Nahida Akter a wicket off her first ball before she conceded her first boundary to Rashada Williams, ominously it would be the last for 20 overs as Bangladesh turned the screw.
Chedean Nation was run out for six off 37 balls thanks to a direct hit from Fargana before more maidens and wickets followed. Aaliyah Alleyne departed for a 12-ball duck, a review unable to save her from being given out LBW
The pressure was temporarily eased when Campbelle sent a full and wide delivery for four, the first boundary for 124 balls, but Chinelle Henry was caught and bowled by Salma Khatun for a duck. Campbelle remained with 14 from 63 balls but it appeared that she may run out of partners with the West Indies on 70 for seven with 14.3 overs left.
However, she shared a 32-run partnership with Fletcher, the pair rotating the strike well. Fletcher departed for 17 from 28 balls as Fahima Khatun got her hands to a low catch for Ritu Moni’s first wicket.
While Salma safely negotiated the hat-trick ball, Bangladesh had slipped to 60 for five and Matthews then swung the game further towards the West Indies with her own double-wicket over.
Nigar was out LBW for 25 from 77 before Fahima was bowled with a peach of a delivery, one of five ducks in the innings, as Matthews ended her ten overs with a career-best four for 15. Salma was dropped twice as she anchored Bangladesh’s resistance, but skipper Taylor saw the back of her for 23 to leave Bangladesh needing 31 off 41 with two wickets remaining.
There was a break in play as Shamilia Connell received treatment after collapsing before being helped from the field, and when the action resumed Nahida put Bangladesh within touching distance before Fariha Trisna chopped on off Taylor as the West Indies became the first side to defend 140 or less in five years.
