ISLAMABAD (Press Release): The 36th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships moved into the finals phase after arduous and effortful tennis playing activity at PTF-SDA Tennis Complex, Islamabad.In the first semifinal top seed Mohammad Shoaib will vie for the top honor in the Men’s Singles final of 36th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships, after winning his semifinals against Muzammil Murtaza with a score line 6-1 6-0, whereas second semi-final will be played tomorrow (Saturday) 6th January-2024 at 10:00 AM between Aqeel Khan and Mudassar Murtaza.In the Ladies' Singles event, unseeded Natalia Zaman from Karachi caused a major upset when she eliminated 4th seed Soha Ali in a thrilling three-set match 6-1 4-6 6-4 and moved to the semi-final to face top seed Sarah Mahboob Khan who conveniently won her encounter against Marrukh Sajid 6-0 6-1. Whereas Amna Ali Qayum beat Kainat Ali 6-0 6-0 and Sheeza Sajid won her match against Lalarukh Sajid 7-6(5) 6-4. The best encounter of the day was played between Hamid Israr Khan and M. Hamza Aasim in the Junior 18&Under category. Top seed Hamid Israr struggled hard to win his match against talented upcoming youngster M.Hamza Aasim of Islamabad. In the first set, Both the players exhibited excellent game by hitting cross-court and down-the-line shots till the score reached 6 games all. The set was decided in the tiebreak, in which Hamid Israr changed the game plan and comfortably won the tiebreak 7-1. The second set was again marked in the same style and both the players demonstrated the high standard of the game of tennis. Hamid again changed the pace and strategy of the game plan, and managed to break the 9th game of Hamza to build up the winning lead 5-4 and kept the same pressure in the 10th game by hitting some excellent cross-court shots and won the match and set at 6-4, and qualified for the final. The match lasted 1 hrs 40 minutes. Sheeza Sajid, Lalarukh Sajid, and Marrukh Sajid got walk-over.In the men’s singles, 6th Seed Mudassar Murtaza upset 4th Seed Mohammad Abid (WAPDA) in a thrilling three-set match with a score line 5-7, 6-2, and 6-2 while top seed Mohammad Shaoib struggled hard to win his encounter against talented Yousaf Khalil in an exciting three set match with the score-line of 7-5, 5-7, and 6-2. Aqeel Khan conveniently won his encounter against upcoming proficient Ahmad Nael Qureshi at 6-2 and 6-4. Today once again the best encounter of the day was played between upcoming youngster Ahmad Nael Qureshi and Saqib Hayat which was won by Ahmed Nael Qureshi in a thrilling three-set match with the score-line of 7-6 (3), 4-6, and 7-5. Ahmad Nael Qureshi earned the vital lead 4-2 by breaking the 1st and 5th games but Saqib bounced back brilliantly and levelled the set 6-6. The set was decided in the tie break which was won by Qureshi 7-3. In the second set, Saqib Hayat exhibited an excellent game of tennis changed his strategy, got the lead 4-2, and continued the same pace won the second set at 6-4, and leveled the match 1-1 all.In the final set, Saqib Hayat continued his winning lead 4-2 by breaking the 1st and 3rd games but was unable to hold his winning streak against the youngster Ahmed Nael Qureshi who not only changed his pace of the game but also played aggressively and hit excellent cross court and down the lines helped him to levelled the set 5 games all.By holding the 11 games took the lead 6-5 and in the 12th game Saqib, Ahmad Nael Qureshi was in full form and did not allow his opponent to settle down and won the game at 15-40 and finished the match by winning the set at 7-5 and qualified for the quarter-final for which he will face 2nd Seed Aqeel Khan. Ahmad Nael Qureshi surprises seventh seed Abdullah Adnan in straight sets 2-0Sports Bulletin ReportISLAMABAD: Except 7th seeded, Abdullah Adnan, the rest of the seeded tennis players moved into the second round of the Men’s Singles event of the 36th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships after beating their respective opponents at Abbas PTF-SDA Tennis Complex, Garden Avenue, Islamabad Tuesday. The best encounter of the day was between upcoming youngsters Ahmad Nael Qureshi and Abdullah Adnan in which Ahmad Nael Qureshi ousted the seventh seed lad in a well-contested straight-set match. In the first set, Ahmad Nael built up the winning lead 4-1 by breaking the 3rd and 5th game of Abdullah Adnan. Both the players exhibited excellent game of tennis. Abdulah bounced back by winning the 6th and 8th game and reduced the lead 4-5. At this point, Ahmad played aggressively and hold his serve in the 10 game and finished the first set at 6-4. In the second set Ahmed again played brilliantly and build the winning lead 4-2 by breaking 3rd game of Abdullah. In the 8th game both the players showed their prowess which lasted in favour of Abdullah and levelled the match 4 games all. Ahmed Nael show his supremacy and hitting excellent down the lines and cross court and break the 11th game to build up the lead 6-5 and by holding the 12th game finished the match at 7-5. Senator Salim Saifullah Khan President-PTF was the guest of honour at this occasion. Ahmed Nael Qureshi outplayed Mohammad Hamza Aasim 2-0 in the Under-18 final with the score-line of 6-3, and 6-2 to lift the title.Sarah Mahbbob and Meheq Khokhar set to meet in the Ladies’ Singles final after defeating their respective opponents in the semifinals. The final will be played on Sunday at 10:00 am. The final score-line was 6-7 (3), 6-4, and (10-4).In the first semifinal of the men’s doubles event, Muzammil Murtaza pairing with Mohammad Shoaib displayed top-quality tennis against the best pair in the country. After losing the first set 6-7, Aisam ul Haq Qureshi and Aqeel Khan struggled hard on the court to bounce back in the match. They won the second set at 6-4. The final score was 6-7 (3), 6-4, (10-4).
