Young tennis player, Zainab Ali Naqvi passes away in Islamabad
Abdul Jabbar FaisalISLAMABAD: Young tennis girl Zainab Ali Naqvi (17) from Karachi passed away on Tuesday, who was here to participate in the ITF Pakistan Khawar Hyat Khan Memorial World Junior Championship Leg-1 at PTF SDA Tennis Complex, Garden Avenue Islamabad, at a local Guest House due to cardiac arrest.According to an official of the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF), Zainab Ali Naqvi- a young tennis player who had come to Islamabad from Karachi to participate in the ITF Juniors Tournaments, passed away last night on 12th February 2024 in Islamabad.Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi President-PTF, Senator Salim Saifullah Khan, Ex-President-PTF, PTF Council members, and the tennis fraternity at large offer their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. May Allah bless the departed soul with eternal peace in Jannah-ul-Firdaus, Aameen.The matches of the ITF Juniors were postponed as a mark of respect in memory of Miss Zainab and will be played on Wednesday with the same schedule. A Joint DUA was offered and one minute silence was observed by all the foreign and Pakistani players, parents, coaches, and the PTF Officials and staff.
Federal Cup: Mohammad Shoaib beats Aqeel Khan 2-0 in final
Sports Bulletin ReportISLAMABAD: Top seed, Mohammad Shoaib thrashed second seed Aqeel Khan in straight sets 2-0 in the Men’s Singles final of the 36th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships that concluded here at PTF-SDA Tennis Complex on Sunday. The final score-line was 6-2, 6-4.In the Men’s Singles final, 22-year-old top seed Mohammad Shoaib of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) outclassed Aqeel Khan 2-0 after the lasted 1 hour 18 minutes on the court. Shoaib got off to a flying start, taking a 4-2 lead by breaking the first game of Aqeel Khan and kept the same pressure to win the first set at 6-2.In the second set, Aqeel fought back but young Shoaib did not allow Aqeel to settle down and exhibited excellent tennis from the base-line and broke the 7th game of Aqeel to build up the winning streak 4-3 in which Aqeel hit a double fault. Shaoib continued the same pressure and in the 10th game, he hit strong serve game and won the set by hitting ace and clinched the Men’s Singles title at 6-2 6-4.Earlier in the day, the Ladies’ Singles Sarah Mahboob clinched the title by eliminating up-comping youngster Amna Ali Qayum from Islamabad in a well-fought straight sets final. Sarah won the toss and chose to serve. Both the players exhibited excellent game of tennis down the line and cross-court, Sarah took the lead 5-4 and broke the 10th game of Amna and won the set at 6-4.In the second set both the players again played the marvelous game of tennis with the combination of excellent cross-court and down the lines. Sarah took the lead of 5-3 by breaking the 8th game of Aman, but Aman fought back bravely and managed to level the score 5 games all by breaking the 9th game of Sarah. In the 11th game, Sarah took the serve advance and again developed the winning lead 6-5. In the 12th game, Aman was unable to maintain her confidence and hit two double faults. Today once again the best encounter of the day was played between upcoming youngster Ahmad Nael Qureshi and Saqib Hayat which was won by Ahmed Nael Qureshi in a thrilling three-set match with the score-line of 7-6 (3), 4-6, and 7-5. Ahmad Nael Qureshi earned the vital lead 4-2 by breaking the 1st and 5th games but Saqib bounced back brilliantly and levelled the set 6-6. The best encounter of the day was between upcoming youngsters Ahmad Nael Qureshi and Abdullah Adnan in which Ahmad Nael Qureshi ousted the seventh seed lad in a well-contested straight-set match. In the first set, Ahmad Nael built up the winning lead 4-1 by breaking the 3rd and 5th game of Abdullah Adnan. Both the players exhibited excellent game of tennis. Abdulah bounced back by winning the 6th and 8th game and reduced the lead 4-5. At this point, Ahmad played aggressively and hold his serve in the 10 game and finished the first set at 6-4. In the second set Ahmed again played brilliantly and build the winning lead 4-2 by breaking 3rd game of Abdullah. In the 8th game both the players showed their prowess which lasted in favour of Abdullah and levelled the match 4 games all. Sports Bulletin ReportISLAMABAD: Top national tennis players Aisam ul Haq Qureshi, and Aqeel Khan got rid of upcoming stars Muzammil Murtaza and Mohammad Shoaib in the Men’s Doubles Semifinals of the 8th Serena Hotels National Ranking Tennis Championships-2023 here at the PTF-SDA Tennis Complex on Friday. The final score-line was 6-7 (3), 6-4, and (10-4).In the first semifinal of the men’s doubles event, Muzammil Murtaza pairing with Mohammad Shoaib displayed top-quality tennis against the best pair in the country. After losing the first set 6-7, Aisam ul Haq Qureshi and Aqeel Khan struggled hard on the court to bounce back in the match. They won the second set at 6-4. The final score was 6-7 (3), 6-4, (10-4).
