Davis Cup Tennis Tie: Aqeel takes on Yosuke in the opening fixture

ISLAMABAD (March 4, 2021):-Pakistan top national tennis player Aqeel Khan will take on Yosuke Watanuki of Japan in the opening fixture of Davis Cup Tennis Ties that will be kicked off on Friday at the Grass Courts of Pakistan Sports Complex Islamabad. The match will start at 11:00 pm.
According to an official of Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) that media persons would not be allowed to cover the prestigious international tennis event owing the Covid-19 pandemic. Later, the second match of the day will be played between international guy Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Kaichi Uchida.
Non-Playing captain of Pakistan team Mushaf Zia hoped that team would perform up to mark and produce historical results. “We toiled hard in the court and all team member are fit and willing to deliver his performance against Japan, “he viewed.
The Official Draw of Davis Cup World Group I tie held at the Aisam ul Haq Pavilion, Pakistan Sports Complex, with strict adherence to ITF COVID-19 protocols. Secretary PTF and Event Security Manager Col. Gul Rehman, picked the official draw. President, PTF Salim Saifullah Khan, ITF Referee Norbert Peick, Secretary Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) Mohsin Mushtaq, ITF Event Manager Tom Nelson, the ITF Chair Umpires Jaume, Campistol and Alexandre Robein and the ITF Review Officials, Tamas Peterdi and Victor Chernov were also present at the official draw ceremony.

ISLAMABAD (February 5, 2021):- Sam Kydd Baumgartner paring with Birtan Duran have won the Boys Doubles title of PTF President ITF World J5 Junior Tennis Championship after beating their opponents Dmitry Dolzhenkov and Artiom Dorofeev 2-0 in single sided final at PTF Tennis Complex on Friday.
Syed Zeeshan Ali Naqvi, Deputy Mayor Islamabad, visited PTF Complex along with Mansoor Ahmed DDG PSB to witness some of the matches, and he was extremely happy with the arrangements and organization of the events. He also paid compliments to President PTF and his team in ensuring that so many foreign players have decided to come to Islamabad.

ISLAMABAD (February 3, 2021):-All eight foreigner players secured their berths in the Boys Singles quarterfinals of the PTF President ITF World J5 Junior Tennis Championship after beating their opponents at the PTF Complex, Islamabad on Wednesday. Solitary Pakistani guy Sami Zeb ousted from tournament, as he lost his vital match 2-1 against Siddhartha Lama from United States of America (USA).
Salim Saifullah Khan President Pakistan Tennis Federation visited PTF complex to witness some of the matches. He appreciated the overall arrangements for the successful conduct of the event. He also interacted with the foreign/local players and their parent/coaches.

All four matches of the Round-I ended in straight sets, however, match between local guy Sami Zeb Khan and British lad Tom Chapman was a close contest, as the both players displayed excellent game of tennis in the first set that finished on tiebreak.

LAHORE (January 30, 2021):- Ahmad Kamil defeated Imran Bhatti 2-1 in the final of Men's Singles and Haniya Minhas thrashed Ashtafila Arif by 6-0, 6-0 to bag the title of Ladies Singles category on the last day of the championship.
In the U-18 Boys’ category final, Hasheesh Kumar emerged triumphant against Faizan Fayyaz with the score of 6-2, 6-2 while the U-18 Girls’ category title went to Haniya Minhas. She trounced Natalia Zaman by 6-0, 6-1.
Vice-Chairman Sports Board Punjab Rao Zahid Qayyum said Sports Board Punjab will continue to extend full cooperation for the promotion of tennis in the province; he said this while talking to media at the prize distribution ceremony of Sports Board Punjab (SBP) Open Tennis Championship 2021 at Punjab Tennis Academy, Bagh-e-Jinnah on Saturday.
Director Sports Hafeez Bhatti, Director Tournament Rashid Malik and a large number of young tennis players and fans were also present on this occasion.
Vice-Chairman Sports Board Punjab Rao Zahid Qayyum said Sports Board Punjab (SBP) Open Tennis Championship is an ideal tournament for young players of 6 and 8 years of age to learn the basics of the game. “This is good initiative taken by Sports board Punjab to groom young tennis players with Corona SOPs in place in the prevailing circumstances of Covid-19”.

LAHORE (January 29, 2021):-Ahmad Kamil and Imran Bhatti sailed into the final of Men's Singles and Ashtafila Arif and Haniya Minhas reached the final of Ladies Singles category on the fourth day of Sports Board Punjab (SBP) Open Tennis Championship 2021 at the Punjab Tennis Academy, Bagh-e-Jinnah on Friday.
Around 15 matches were played on the 4th day of the mega event. All the final matches will be played at the same venue on Saturday at 3:00pm. Vice-Chairman Sports Board Punjab Rao Zahid Qayyum will be the chief guest of the prize distribution ceremony.

LAHORE (January 28, 2021):-Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh, in a statement on Thursday said the game of tennis is growing swiftly among the young generation and Sports Board Punjab, in line with the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan, is extending every kind of assistance for the holding of tennis events in the province.
“Sports Board Punjab’s Junior Initiative Tennis Academy is also working quite effectively at Nishtar Park Sports Complex State of the Art Tennis Stadium where expert coaches are imparting training to 4 to 12 year old boys and girls under the supervision of Rashid Malik at the academy”.
Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh said: “We are also organising First Quaid-e-Azam Inter-Division Hockey Championship with the collaboration of Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) from Jan 25 to Feb 7, 2021 at National Hockey Stadium”.
Ahmad Kamil, Hassan Riaz, Imran Bhatti and Mahatir Muhammad stormed into semifinals in Men's Singles category on the third day of Sports Board Punjab (SBP) Open Tennis Championship 2021 at the Punjab Tennis Academy, Bagh-e-Jinnah on Thursday.
Mahatir Muhammad, Faizan Fayyaz and Hasheesh Kumar also booked a place in the semifinals of Under-18 Boys’ Singles category after defeating their respective opponents in quarterfinals.
As many as 24 matches were played on the third day of Sports Board Punjab Open Tennis Championship 2021.

Asif Abbasi creates new history in wheelchair tennis

ISLAMABAD (January 19, 2021):-A wheelchair tennis player, Asif Gul Abbasi made a great mark in the history of wheelchair tennis after winning three international tournaments and representing Pakistan in over a dozen of tennis fixtures in United Kingdom (UK). Now, Asif spotted at 153 in the world ranking that released last December 2020. It is pertinent to mention here that he was ranked 82 couple of years back August 2018. Abbasi is only Pakistani lad, who achieved this milestone in the history of Pakistan wheelchair tennis.
The international sports website sports-bulletin.com arranged an interview with him (Asif) at National Press Club (NPC) Islamabad and he told this scribe that he had won three international events in UK including ITF Futures Wrexham, Wales 2017, ITF-3 Draw II 2020 at same venue and ITF-2 Draw II at Bolton, at indoor tennis centre 2020, in a row. “I won 15 British National Series wheelchair tennis tournaments and was declared “Player of the Year” three times back-to-back in 2017, 2018 and 2019, “he maintained.
Responding to a question, Asif said that he needed some support from Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) to play further international wheelchair tennis and heist the green flag all over the world through sports and to highlight the soft image of Pakistan. “I wish to represent my beloved county in the Para-Olympics, which will be held in Tokyo, Japan soon after the Summer Olympics, which are delayed owing to corona virus Covid-19, “he said.
“I can also help PTF in promoting the wheelchair tennis in the country, as I am qualified Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) Level-III tennis coach. Pakistan has massive talent in the wheelchair tennis and disabled youth must be given an opportunity to excel at national and international level. I have vast experienced in playing and teaching wheelchair tennis in UK. I am also qualified wheelchair basketball mentor, “Asif Gul Abbasi concluded.
Begum Kulsum National Tennis: Muzammil stuns Aqeel Khan 2-1 in final

ISLAMABAD (December 27, 2020):-Muzammil Murtaza stunned heavyweight Aqeel Khan 2-1 in the Men’s Singles final of the 6th Begum Kulsum Saifullah Khan National Ranking Tennis Tournament 2020 at the PTF Complex, Islamabad on Sunday. The final score-line was 7-6, 3-6 and 6-4.
Ayman Ismael, CFO Eighteen was the guest of honor while Anwar Saifullah Khan, president Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF), graced the occasion as chief guest to witness the finals and distributed prizes among the winners.
Anwar Saifullah Khan appreciated the role of sponsors in the promotion of tennis in collaboration with PTF. He also appreciated the tournament organizers for conducting such an excellent event. He praised the role of media for promotion of sports in Pakistan and especially game of tennis.
Earlier, in the Women’s singles final, Sarah Mahboob Khan had to work hard in the court to overcome her opponent Ushna Suhail 2-1 in a well-contested 3-set match with the score-line of 7-6(3),5-7 and 6-4.
