Chief Commissioner Usman Younus joins ICA as Patron-in-Chief

ISLAMABAD: Chief Commissioner Islamabad Captain (Retd) Usman has become the Patron-in-Chief of Islamabad Chess Association (ICA) Younus at the request of ICA’s top officials.
According to an official of ICA, while appreciating the ongoing efforts of Chief Commissioner Islamabad for the promotion of chess and for making chess activities in Islamabad more comprehensive and wide, Acting General Secretary ICA and Vice President, Chess Federation of Pakistan (CFP) Dr. Iqtidar Uddin presented the offer letter of Pattern-in-Chief on behalf of Islamabad Chase Association to the Chief Commissioner.
Usman Younus gladly accepted the aforementioned offer and announced holding the upcoming National Rapid Chess Championship 2023 in Islamabad while announcing the organization of large scale chess activities in the capital city of Islamabad.
On this occasion Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad, the administration of the Islamabad Capital Territory, and prominent chess players of Islamabad including Salman Ali Khan, Muneeb Yaqoob Jatt, Shujaat Ali, Colonel Jawad, and others were present on this occasion.
Sulaiman Ashrafi wins 1st Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Chess Championship

Islamabad:-Sulaiman Ahmed Ashrafi has lifted the title of 1st Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Chess Championship that took place at F-9 Park Islamabad on Sunday.
The championship was organized by Chess Federation of Pakistan (CFP) and Islamabad Chess Association (ICA) with the support of Directorate of Sports Culture and Tourism CDA MCI on the special directions of Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, Administrator Municipal Corporation Islamabad (MCI) Arfan Nawaz Memon. .
According to secretary CFP Gohar Iqbal, in the professional category, Sulaiman Ahmed Ashrafi claimed first position while Sabat Ali remained second. Salman Ali Khan got third position in a one-day fixture. Noor Fatima Rashid was on top in the women’s event.
Over 100 top players from all over Pakistan participated in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Championship, as the basic aim was to provide an occasion to upcoming budding young boys and girls to improve their game by playing with renowned players.
Deputy Commissioner of Islam Arfan Nawaz Memon participated in the event as a special guest. Cash prizes were distributed among the first ten players who won and the winner was awarded with a beautiful trophy.
Chess Federation of Pakistan President Hanif Qureshi appreciated the efforts made by Metropolitan Corporation Islam to promote mind games. The organizers of the championship and Secretary Finance of Chess Federation of Pakistan Raja Gohar Iqbal congratulated the winning players.

"ICT administration is also going to establish a chess club in F-9 Park and chess activities will be organized on every Sunday in F-9 Park Islamabad.
Quaid-e-Azam Trophy chess tournament on September 18

Islamabad:-The 1st Quaid-e-Azam Trophy chess tournament will be played on September 18, 2022 at F-9 Park, Islamabad.
According to an official chess federation, the tournament will consist of three categories including Men’s, Ladies’ and Under-14, as the entries will be received till September 17.
The tournament will start on September 18 at 10:00 am, as the entry fee will be Rs. 2000. Tournament will be played on 7 Rounds Swiss basis. The winners will be awarded cash prizes.
Azadi Cup Rated Rapid Chess Championship on August 13, 2022

ISLAMABAD:-The 2nd Azadi Cup Rated Rapid Chess Championship 2022 will be held on August 13 at Jinnah Stadium PSB Library Hall, Pakistan Sports Complex Islamabad, as the championship will be played under the banner of Chess Federation of Pakistan (CFP) in collaboration with Islamabad Chess Association (ICA) and Pakistan Sports Board (PSB).
According to an official CFP, the tournament will only have a limited number of participants and there will be no on the spot registration. As many as 80 players will take part in the men’s fixture while each 15 players will take part in women’s and Under-14 categories.
Registration will be closed on 10th August 2022 at 11:59 PM or as soon as the maximum number of players are registered. No registration will be accepted after the given date. Pairing of the 1st round will be displayed on the evening before the match.
Rs. 2000 will be the entry fee, as the tournament will be played according to Swiss System Format. Cash prizes of Rs. 250 thousand will be disbursed among the top players. Also, gifts, trophies, medals will be given to the best players and E-certificates for all participants.
Hanif Qureshi will be the chief organizer of the championship while Umar Khan, Raja Gauhar Iqbal and Shujaat Ali will discharge the duty of tournament directors. Ehtesham-ul-Haq will be chief arbiter of the top national chess fixture.
Syed Mohammad Ali wins Punjab Qualifying Chess Championship: Chohan congratulates

LAHORE:-Syed Mohammad Ali has won the Punjab Qualifying Chess Championship 2022, as Director General Sports Punjab Javed Chohan has congratulated all the winners.
In his greeting message on Tuesday, Director General Sports Punjab Javed Chohan said that the players have performed brilliantly in the chess championship. “There is a lot of chess talent in Punjab, and we are providing best platform for the youth to express their abilities and we are happy that the youth are also availing these opportunities to the fullest”.
Director General Sports Punjab Javed Chohan said that Sports Board Punjab was taking important steps to promote the game of chess. “A few months ago, a mega chess event was organized in which more than 600 players participated”.
Syed Mohammad Ali of Gujranwala won the Punjab Qualifying Chess Championship 2022 held under the auspices of Sports Board Punjab and Punjab Chess Association while NazarHussain and Rashid Rafique of Sheikhupura bagged the second and third positions respectively.
16-time National Champion and International Chess Master MahmoodLodhi was the guest of honour at the closing ceremony. He distributed trophies and cash prizes among the winners and other top performers of the event.
More than 100 top players from all over Punjab participated in the Punjab Chess Qualifying Championship organised at Nishtar Park Sports Complex Gymnasium Hall. Some players participated in the championship through wild card entry. The top 14 players in the championship will represent Punjab in the National Chess Championship to be held in June. The top five players of National Chess Championship will be selected to participate in International Chess Olympiad scheduled to be staged in India in July this year.
The players who have qualified to represent Punjab team in upcoming National Chess Championship include Aqib Javed Butt (Lahore), Rashid Pervez (Sargodha), Iftikhar Ali (Gujranwala), Fauzanullah (Lahore), Shehryar Najmi (Lahore), Ali Akbar (Toba Tek Singh), Zaman Sohail (Lahore), Junaid Sohail (Lahore), Jahanzeb Sohail (Rawalpindi), Asadullah (Lahore) and AtiqManzoor (Lahore).
President of the Punjab Chess Association appreciated the efforts of Director General Sports Punjab Javed Chohan for promoting the mind games in Punjab. Director General Sports Punjab Javed Chohan also congratulated Raja Gohar Iqbal, General Secretary Punjab Chess Association, Umar Farooq, Joint Secretary and Master Amir Karim.
Chess Federation of Pakistan elections on June 4 in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD:-The Executive Council elections of Chess Federation of Pakistan (CFP) will be held on June 4, 2022 here at a local hotel.
According to an official, the election of Chess Federation of Pakistan will be organized under the supervision of Election Commissioner Dana Reizniece-Ozola, (FIDE Reverse Delegate for Pakistan). All General Body members of Chess Federation of Pakistan will be eligible to cast their votes in the election.
Candidates and voters are advised to seek further information from the Election Commissioner to participate in the election. The representatives of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) and Asian Chess Federation (ACF) will observe the election process.
Punjab Open Chess Championship on February 6 at Lahore

ISLAMABAD:-The Punjab Open Chess Championship will be held on February 6, 2022 at Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Training Center, Ferozpur Road Lahore.
According to an official, the top national chess players will take part in the event, as the tournament will be held in three categories including Men’s, Women’s and Under-20. Top ten men, top for women and top four Under-20 players will be awarded cash prizes.

Shahid Hussain wins the title of Islamabad Open Rapid Chess Tournament 2022

ISLAMABAD:-The veteran chess player, Shahid Hussain has won the title of the 3rd Islamabad Open Rapid Chess Tournament that held on Sunday at the Main Hall of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) office G-8/1 Islamabad.
According to an official of Islamabad Chess Association (ICA), a-day chess tournament was held by ICA in collaboration with ICCI in which over 60 players took part and showed their mental strength. Shahid Hussain claimed top position in 9 rounds fixture while Abdullah Waris remained second and Mohammad Uzair Masood grabbed third position.
Anastasiia, a 13-year old girl was on top position in the women’s event. In the Under-15 event, Hamza Zaka Mustafa got the top position while Raja Hattam was second and Ahmed Khan Wazir was on third spot. At the end, chief guest president ICCI Shakil Munir distributed the prizes among the players.
Also, Joint Secretary SAFRON Agha Wasim Ahmed graced the occasion as guest of honour. All top officials of ICA and ICCI were present on this eve. Secretary ICA Raja Gohar thanked all guest on this occasion. Position holders were awarded prize money along with trophies and medals. First position holder pocketed 5000 cash while 3000 and 2000 respectively given to second and third position holders.
A-Day Islamabad Open Rapid Chess Tournament on January 23, 2022

ISLAMABAD:-The 3rd Islamabad Open Rapid Chess Tournament Championship will be held on January 23 (Sunday) at Islamabad under the banner of Islamabad Chess Association (ICA) in collaboration with Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI).
According to an official, the tournament will be played on Swiss System in which three categories competitions will be held including Men’s, Women’s and Under-15, as the tournament will start at 11:00 am in the Hall of ICCI G-8 / 1 Islamabad, as players will have to report one hour before.
Top eight players will be awarded prize money along with trophies and medals. First position holder will get 5000 cash while 3000 and 2000 respectively will be given to second and third position holders.
A series of chess events start next month in Islamabad: Malik Ameen

ISLAMABAD (October 21, 2021):-Secretary, Islamabad Chess Association (ICA), Malik Mohammad Ameen has revealed on Thursday that chess association of capital city would start a series of chess fixtures at universities level aiming to give an occasion to budding chess players and to select the young talented guys from grass root level and It would be started from International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) next month.
During a special meeting with www.sports-bulletin.com correspondent, national chess player, Malik Ameen further said that he had a meeting with the IIUI administration. “All things have been settled and we will organize the event in well benefitted manners in collaboration with Chess Federation of Pakistan (CFP). After this, a series of chess competitions will kick off in the different universities of twin cities Rawalpindi and Islamabad, “he added.
To a question, he said that CFP was competent to host the top international chess events in Pakistan, which would be helpful to boost up the soft image of the country all over the world. “It is a fact that we cannot organize any international event without the government's support and cooperation. Chess federation has a good reputation at international level. If the government will support us we will manage the international events on the soil of Pakistan, “he maintained.
“For staging an international chess there is no need for big security, as it is an indoor game and all things can be managed safely. At this time, unfortunately, Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) is not even ready to recognize CFP and his efforts for the promotion of the game in Pakistan. I will not want to make more comments on this issue because the case is in the Islamabad High Court. We are affiliated with the World and Asian chess organizations, “he said.
To another regarding the government support, Malik Ameed said: “The conditions of sports are miserable all over the county and the standard is going down day by day. The performance of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) is also very grim like other government institutes and no one is ready to listen there. We told all the facts to top officials of PSB but we are still waiting for its affiliation. New Director PSB is not well aware about the sports issues, “he lamented.
Responding to another question, Malik divulged that in 80s Landa Bazar was the hub of the chess players in Rawalpindi. Everyone was enjoying the game at a local hotel after closing their daily business. “It is said that chess was the game of kings but it has become the game of the common man too. People are keen to play chess under the banner of any organization. Politics hurt the chess brutally, as we were running the chess very well and smoothly but some unknown people established another parallel body. We organized a lot of tournaments and provided opportunities to budding players to excel at national and level, “he concluded.
