ISLAMABAD:-Pakistan No. 1 wheelchair tennis star, Asif Gul Abbasi hoped that he would boost the green flag in the international sports arenas in upcoming prestigious international wheelchair tennis fixtures, as he was toiling hard to maintain fitness level. It is pertinent to mention here that Asif defeated high ranked Indian players in both Singles and Double event in the Wheelchair Tennis World Cup qualifying tournament in Antalya, Turkey.
While talking to this international sports website over his mobile from London he added that the victory against traditional rival India encouraged him too much and he was toiling hard to give them tough fight in the forthcoming international wheelchair tennis events.
Abbasi, 42, further said, “I won a total of three international tennis tournaments so far and I am solitary wheelchair tennis player of Pakistan, who broke into top 100 best world ranking 82 in the world in October 2018. I won 16 National series wheelchair tennis tournaments in the UK in 2017, 2018 and 2019 and was declared best player thrice in same years, “he maintained.
Responding to a question, he said that he achieved these honours without any support or help from any organisation. “Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) should support me and I can win the medals in the international games including Paralympics in future. I had contacted Pakistan Paralympics and requested them to send my name for Paralympics 2020 but they did not take this seriously. Unfortunately I could not represent Pakistan in these games, “he replied.
