Abdullah Asjad ISLAMABAD (December 2, 2021):-The 14th National Tenpin Bowling Championship 2022 will be rolled off from January 25, 2020 at Leisure City Bowling Club, Jinnah Park Rawalpindi under the aegis of Pakistan Tenpin Bowling Federation (PTBF) and in collaboration with Leisure City Bowling Club, Jinnah Park Rawalpindi. According to an official of PTBF, the competitions will be staged in 10 different disciplines during the 6-day National Tenpin Bowling Championship including Master Singles, Doubles, Team, Deaf, Amateur, Women, Inter-school, Inter Colleges, Inter Universities and Media. Top national players along with peoples from different professions will take part in different categories. President PTBF, Ijaz-ur-Rehman said: The preparation is under way for holding the 14th National Tenpin Bowling Championship 2022 and hopefully soon will complete the requirements of this mega event. Due to lack of resource and non interest of the current government in sports national players facing a lot of problems relating to sports, without coaches and proper platform players will never respond accordingly.  Therefore, we are requesting to our honorable prime minister of Pakistan Imran Khan to take serious action for the betterment of sports in Pakistan, because our prime minister remains the best sports person and he can better understand the problems of national athletes.

Islamabad (Sports Desk):-It was another pulsating day of action at the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup Bhubaneswar 2021 as Germany, Argentina, France and host nation India all secured their places in the competition semi-finals by winning their encounters in the last eight.  Germany’s shoot-out victory over Spain in the first match of the day earned them a semi-final clash against home favourites India, who narrowly defeated Belgium in today’s final match. Argentina’s superb 2-1 victory over the much-fancied Netherlands sets up a semi-final clash with the impressive France, who were comfortable winners against Malaysia. The timings for those semi-finals, which take place on Friday 3 December, are as follows.  Germany 2-2 Spain (3-1 After Shoot-Out) Six times Junior World Cup champions Germany rescued victory from the jaws of defeat, scoring a dramatic late equaliser against Spain before edging the first quarter-final in the shoot-out. Germany opened the scoring in the fifth minute thanks to Christopher Kutter’s penalty stroke, with Spain’s Gerard Clapes restoring parity six minutes later with a penalty corner. Chances for Germany came and went before Spain’s Eduard de Ignacio-Simo netted a magnificent solo goal with just over one minute remaining. Just when it seemed that Germany’s competition was going to come to an end, Masi Phandt rattled home a penalty corner before Valentin Altenburg’s team triumphed 3-1 in the shoot-out to break Spanish hearts.  “It was really amazing”, said Germany goalkeeper Jean Danneburg, who came off the bench to produce a game winning performance in the shoot-out, earning him the Player of the Match award. “The feeling to catch the balls was so awesome. I’m so happy and proud of my team, that they scored the penalties. For the shoot-outs, I was very nervous this time. But I kept my focus on the important things. It’s a lot of fun with this team!” Spain’s Alvaro Portugal expressed his disappointment. “I felt the team played better than Germany at times. We’ll now look at what did not go well in this match.” Netherlands 1-2 Argentina The second match of the day was also packed full of drama, with Argentina claiming a stunning late victory over a Netherlands team that many considered to be amongst the frontrunners for the title. The two teams traded goals within a minute of each other in the second quarter, with Joaquin Kruger touching home a crash-ball for Argentina before 17-year-old Dutchman Miles Bukkens netted his 12th goal of the competition with an expertly converted penalty corner. The Dutch looked the more likely scorers in the final stages, but it was Argentina who emerged triumphant when Franco Agostini’s cross from the left took a huge deflection from a Netherlands stick and flew into the goal. The Europeans rallied hard, but Argentina’s outstanding defensive line held firm to keep alive their hopes of adding a second Junior World Cup title to the one claimed in 2005. “It was a very hard match and we’re very happy with this win”, said Argentina’s Tadeo Marcucci, who was named Player of the Match. “I also would like to congratulate the Netherlands, who are a great team. Now, we have to focus on the next match and analyse our opponent in the semi-final. We have confidence in ourselves, with the staff examining all our games.” Netherlands captain Silas Lageman said: “We’re very disappointed. I don’t know what happened. We got a few cards so that obviously made the game more difficult. We were pushing for the lead, then a high ball came through and I don’t really know what happened. But it went in with a minute and a half to go when we were heading for shoot-outs.”  France 4-0 Malaysia  France captain Timothée Clément scored a hat-trick of penalty corners to help his team claim a comfortable 4-0 triumph over Malaysia and secure a place in the competition semi-finals for only the second time in their history. Clément netted superb drag-flicks in the 14th and 24th minute respectively to open a 2-0 lead for the Europeans, before Timothée’s younger brother Mathis Clément scored a spectacular volley from another penalty corner situation shortly after half time. France – the beaten finalists in the New Delhi 2013 Junior World Cup – added gloss on a dominant performance when the elder Clement completed his treble in the final minute of the match with another penalty corner. “It feels amazing, being in the semi-finals of the World Cup is simply fantastic”, said Player of the Match Timothée Clément after the game, before looking ahead to his team’s upcoming semi-final opponents. “Argentina is a very good team so now we will focus on this match. We will analyse this team to see how they play.” On competing in Bhubaneswar alongside sibling Mathis, Timothée said: “Playing a World Cup with my brother is amazing; he had a very good game today.” Malaysia captain Akhimullah Anuar said: “The match was good. But with the pandemic we had a very short preparation time. So, we’ve done our best. Today, penalty corners worked very well for France and that’s the result. Belgium 0-1 India Reigning champions and hosts India produced a magnificent defensive display to defeat Belgium by a solitary goal in a replay of the competition final from Lucknow 2016. Belgium had more shots, circle penetrations, possession, and penalty corners, but it was India who emerged winners thanks to a 21st minute penalty corner effort from Sharda Nand Tiwari, who flicked high into the goal from the left of the circle. Belgium piled on the pressure in the final stages and boosted by a yellow card five-minute suspension for India’s Yashdeep Siwach, certainly looked capable of tying the match and forcing a shoot-out. A late penalty corner arrived moments after Belgium replaced their goalkeeper with an outfield player, but India goalkeeper Pawan produced two vital saves to send his team into the competition semi-finals at the expense of their opponents.  “With the plan we had, we tried to execute that but still a few things couldn’t happen”, said India’s Vishnukant Singh, who was named Player of the Match. “It was a really tough match. We cannot underestimate our opponents. Our plan was to win and it is important that we enjoy that.” Belgium captain Dylan Englebert said: “We played a great game. Karachi (Sports Report):-The 12th Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (JCSC) Open Golf Championship commenced on Wednesday at Karachi Golf Club (KGC) under the control of Services Sports Control Board, Joint Services Headquarters in collaboration with Pakistan Navy. Over 400 professionals, amateur, veterans, juniors and ladies golfers are competing in the prestigious gold showpiece. Championship carries Rs. 10 million prize money excluding other prizes like cars, heavy bikes and LEDs. Opening ceremony of the championship was held at KGC and President Services Sports Control Board, Rear Admiral Abdul Basit Butt graced the occasion as chief guest. Besides, the sponsors and official dignitaries, attended the ceremony including professional and amateur players. At the end, the chief guest Rear Admiral Abdul Basit Butt thanked all the organizers especially Pakistan Navy, KGC and sponsors for providing all out support in organizing this event at Karachi and formally declared the Championship open.

Aamir Ali Janjua Dubai (December 1, 2021):-Fast bowler Shaheen Afridi has made it to the top five of the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings for the first time in his career after a fine show in the first Test against Bangladesh which Pakistan won by eight wickets. The 21-year-old left-armer, who grabbed seven wickets including a haul of five for 32 in the second innings of the Chittagong Test, has moved up three places to fifth position after overtaking James Anderson, Kagiso Rabada and Neil Wagner. Shaheen’s new-ball partner Hasan Ali too is at a career-best position after finishing with a similar seven-wicket match haul that included a five-for in the first innings. Hasan has advanced five places to 11th place. His previous best in Tests was 14th, reached in May this year. Pakistan’s opening batters were not the ones to be left behind. Abid Ali may have missed out on a century in each innings but his scores of 133 and 91 helped him shoot up 27 slots to a career-best 20th position while Abdullah Shafique enters the rankings at 83rd with scores of 52 and 73. For Bangladesh, Mushfiqur Rahim is up four places to 19th with scores of 91 and 16 while Liton Das has moved up 26 places to a career-best 31st position after accruing 114 and 59. Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam has progressed two places to 23rd after an eight-wicket match haul that included seven scalps in the first innings. The thrilling draw in Kanpur between India and New Zealand had quite a few performances from either side that reflect in the latest weekly update that also includes the first Test between Sri Lanka and the West Indies at Galle, which the host side won by 187 runs. Debutant Shreyas Iyer’s Player of the Match effort of 105 and 65 helped him enter the rankings in 74th position while opener Shubman Gill (up six places to 66th) and Wriddhiman Saha (up nine places to 99th) also made notable progress after notching half-centuries. Ravindra Jadeja is up two places to 19th among bowlers with five wickets in the match and is also up one place to second among all-rounders. Islamabad (Sports Desk):-Germany will board a plane to Madrid after Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz once again showcased their doubles prowess to fire their nation to the Davis Cup semi-finals following a tension-filled showdown with Great Britain. As they had done in both of their previous ties in Innsbruck, two-time Grand Slam doubles champion Krawietz and his partner Puetz rose to the occasion magnificently during a jaw-dropping clash, this time dispatching Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski 7-6(10), 7-6(5). Germany was earlier teetering on the brink of elimination from the Finals after Great Britain surged into a commanding 1-0 lead following the 62, 61 thrashing of Peter Gojowczyk by a rampant Dan Evans. However, big-hitting Jan-Lennard Struff hauled his nation level with a gritty 76(6), 36, 62 win against in-form world No. 12 Cameron Norrie, although this was only a prelude to what was to come. In a high-octane and fabulously entertaining encounter, Krawietz and Puetz saved four set points during a fluctuating first set tiebreak before hauling themselves over the line by converting a fourth set point of their own. Playing just their sixth match together, three of which have come at these Finals, the intrepid duo then won a second tiebreak to confirm victory, this time recovering from 5-0 down to win 7-5. Victory ensured Germany ended their six-tie losing streak in Davis Cup quarter-finals and reached the semi-finals for the first time since 2007. They now advance to the Spanish capital where they will face the winners of the last-eight clash between the Russian Tennis Federation (RTF) and Sweden on Saturday. “I think you could see that after the match point a lot of pressure fell off,” said Germany captain Michael Kohlmann, who was a calm presence throughout the nerve-racking encounter. “I am super happy. I mean, last time we reached the semi-finals was 2007, and that year I played. “This team is much better than it was at that time, so I think they deserved it. I am extremely happy and extremely proud.” “Honestly, I don’t know how we pulled that back from 0-5,” said Krawietz. “It’s tough, of course, to start the second tiebreak with 0-5, but we just said, ‘point by point’ then maybe we have a chance in this tiebreak. “Then we served twice and we were 2-5. We said, ‘okay, let’s try to make one point out of two. Then we turned it around. It’s a crazy game at times.” Great Britain, meanwhile, who were crowned Davis Cup champions in 2015, were bidding to reach the fourth semi-final of Leon Smith’s captaincy reign and equal, at the very least, their performance at the 2019 Finals in Madrid. The disappointment within their camp was palpable. The possibility of a Germany victory was made possible, in the first instance, by world No. 51 Struff and his defeat of Norrie, which ensured an already absorbing and enthralling tie went the distance. Following an early break of serve, Struff surged into a 3-0 lead in the opening set before Norrie instigated a comeback, winning three successive games to level before a swift exchange of service breaks forced a tiebreak. Left-hander Norrie engineered his way into a 6-4 tiebreak lead but failed to convert his two set points – something that would become a theme of the tie – allowing Struff to work his way back into contention and take the opening set. Norrie, however, has been in blistering form this season and last month became the first Briton to top the podium at Indian Wells, so was always likely to strike back. He duly did midway through the second set, breaking the Struff serve to go 4-2 up from where he successfully negotiated the remainder of proceedings. The third set followed a similar template only for the roles to be reversed. Struff flexed his muscles to break Norrie and power into a 4-2 lead, with the 31-year-old refusing to relinquish his grip, sending the tie to a deciding doubles.

Cali-Valle, Colombia (SB Report):-The USA’s Marina Stefanoni and Mexico’s Leonel Cardenas have won squash singles gold medals at the Junior Pan American Games in Cali-Valle, Colombia. The pair, both highly ranked on the PSA World Tour, dominated their respective competitions, with Stefanoni securing a comprehensive 3-0 win over Mexico’s Dina Anguiano and Cardenas overcoming Colombia’s Matias Knudsen by the same scoreline. Stefanoni had been in dominant form throughout her singles run, knocking out Canada’s Iman Shaheen, Ecuador’s Maria Buenaño and Colombia’s Lucia Sarmiento without dropping a game. In the final, against Anguiano, Stefanoni completed her flawless run. The 18-year-old World No.66 attacked from the first moment, taking the first game 11-4, the second 11-5 and the third 11-4 to secure a memorable gold, just three days before her 19th birthday. Speaking after the match, Stefanoni said: “I thought I played well and I was happy to have made it through in three games. Dina was a tough opponent and I was very excited to win gold here. I sincerely hope that squash remains in the Pan American Youth Games for many years to come. I’d like to thank my parents and all the coaches that have worked with me throughout my junior career.” En route to the final, the 21-year-old World No.49 bested Argentina’s Jeremias Azaña, Peru’s Rafael Galvez and Guatemala’s Junior Enriquez, and went into the final favourite to claim the title. Knudsen caused Cardenas problems in the first game, and the Mexican was made to work hard for an 11-8 win. After this victory, though, Cardenas pressed his advantage, wrapping up the title with an 11-6 win in the second game and a crushing 11-3 win in the decisive third.  “It was a tough match and the crowd was cheering for the other side. In the first game, Matias played awesome and I had to use my experience from playing on the PSA World Tour to keep up with him and stay focused. I played solid in the second and third games and managed to win. I am very thankful to Team Mexico, my family and friends for their continued support,” Cardenas said afterwards. With those victories, both Marina Stefanoni and Leonel Cardenas have secured a berth in the 2023 Pan American Games Individual events in Santiago, Chile.

Islamabad (Sports Desk):-Mexico and Colombia have taken gold medals in the doubles events at the Junior Pan American Games, Cali-Valle. Both countries dominated the doubles events throughout, with the two contesting all three finals. Mexico took gold in the women’s and mixed events, with Fabiola Cabello and Poala Franco defeating Maria Ramirez and Valentina Sanchez, while Dina Anguiano and Leonel Cadenas beat Lucia Bautista and Nicolas Serna. There was some revenge to be had for Colombia in the men’s doubles, as Juan Torres and Matais Knudsen defeated Juan Salazar and Leonardo Vargas. The Games that held every four years for athletes between the ages of 17-22, feature 315 events across 28 sports, including squash singles, doubles and team events. This year’s event is being held in the west Colombian city of Cali, with squash being played in Club Campestre de Cali. Earlier this week, the USA’s Marina Stefanoni and Mexico’s Leonel Cardenas claimed the women’s and men’s singles titles, while the teams’ finals conclude on December 01. Both Mexico and Colombia went into the women’s doubles gold medal match with reason to be confident. Mexico came through tough contests against Canada and Ecuador to reach the final, while hosts Colombia had downed the Cayman Islands and came from behind to beat Guatemala, who had earlier shocked the much-fancied U.S. team. The opening game of the final was one of razor-thin margins, with Mexico pushing their noses in front with a hard-fought 11-10 win. Colombia struck back well in the second to level the match with an 11-8 win, only for Mexico to regroup to claim the decisive third game 11-7. In the men’s final, Knudsen recovered from his singles final disappointment to put in a great performance alongside Torres to claim a deserved gold, to the delight of the home crowd. In an entertaining first game, Colombia had one hand on the trophy with an 11-6 win. Mexico fought back well in the second, but were unable to prevent Colombia from securing gold, with the hosts wrapping the match up with an 11-9 win. In the mixed final, Colombia had a golden opportunity to secure another medal when they took the first game with a dominant 11-3 win. Mexico, though, came back furiously and stunned Colombia with 11-7 and 11-8 wins to seal a memorable win.
