TRINITY BLUES WIN SSA TALENT HUNT CHAMPIONSHIP
Saad Kayani KARACHI:-The Sindh government is making all-out efforts and taking every possible step for the promotion of softball at grass root level across the province, Sindh Excise and Taxation Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla said here on Friday. The Provincial Minister was speaking as chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony of the SSA Talent Hunt Softball Championship organized by Sindh Softball Association. He said, “Sindh province are rich in talent including sports, they are God-Gifted and  what is needed, is to explore that talent and turn them into gems to enable them to win laurels for the country at national and international level, “he added. He assured his full support and all-out steps on part of the Sindh Govt for holding the national and inter-divisional softball events and improving the infrastructure of the game which would help explore and promote raw talent. The Minister added that it is a good omen that there is great interest among the youth of Sindh in the game of softball which is evident from their participation in the softball events and appreciated the holding of the softball championship for schools, colleges as well as districts in the province. Bishop of Karachi Fredrick John Trinity Girls School and College Principal Irene Pearl, Pakistan Olympic Environment Committee member Tehmina Asif, Chawla International Managing Partner Santosh Kumar, Softball Federation  Pakistan Secretary General Asif Azim, Sindh Softball Association  President Syed Wasim Hashmi, Secretary Muhammad Zeeshan Merchant,  VP Mehmood Nasir, Coach Faraz Aijaz were also present on the occasion. Earlier Trinity Blues won the title by beating Karachi White by seven runs in the final. Trinity Blues scored magnificent 15 runs in 5 innings with some good show of talent by Areesha Saeed and Zara who scored 3 runs each while  Fiza, Ayesha, Iqra and Ammara scored two runs each. The runners up side could score 8 runs. Fareesha and Nida scored two runs each. Zara of Trinity Blues was declared Best Player of the Tournament.

Muslim School celebrates Sports Week
Rawalpindi (Sports Report):- Different sports events are going in the Government Muslim Higher Secondary School (GMHSS) No.1 Saidpur Road Rawalpindi aiming to celebrate Sports Week in the light of Prime Minister Vision “Healthy Activites”. VP team win Cricket Match: I cricket match was played on Thursday between Principal XIs and Vice Principal (VP) XIs at Muslim Cricket Ground. Principal XIs captain Abdul Jaleel won the toss and put opposition into bat first. VP elevens posted 130 for 4 runs on the board in 10 overs per innings fixture. Zohaib (48 not out), Ammar-ul-Islam (26), Zulfiqar (22) and Mata-ur-Raheem (20) were the main contributors. Saeed Kayani claimed two wickets. I reply, Principal XI s could score 107 in allotted 10 overs. Principal Abdul Jaleel was top scorer with 30 runs. Saleem Raza scored 25, Taimoor Sadiq (20) and Waleed Altaf 12 runs were other major contributors. Mata-ur-Raheem grabbed two wickets, Amar-ul-Islam two wickets while Zohaib Khan and Aamir Raza got one wicket each for the winning side. Aamir did well in the fielding and grabbed two excellent catches.

World Premier Scrabble Tournament starts
Karachi (Saad Kayani):-The World Premier Scrabble tournament started with 105 players from 23 countries.  A team of 20 scrabble experts under the tournament director Hammad Hadi is organizing the championship online from their control center at Pharmevo House in Karachi. Nadeem Omar, Franchise owner of Quetta Gladiators inaugurated the event. All players completed 16 games in the first phase. At the end of the first phase Will Anderson of USA was on top with 14 wins and two losses. He has a spread of 1100. World No. 8 Paul Gallen of Northern Ireland is currently second with 13 wins and a spread of 1571. Paul Gallen's average score is an astonishing 499.56 through the 16 games. Another tournament favorite, former world champion and current world No. 2 David Eldar of Australia is 3rd with 13 wins and a spread of 1338. Ben Schoenbrun (USA), Peter Cougi (Australia), Ivan Sentongo (Uganda), Alastair Richards (New Zealand) and Prince Omosefe (Nigeria) make up the 4-8 positions respectively. Another 16 games will be played in the second phase. Top 8 players after completion of 32 games will qualify for the quarter finals. The top player from Pakistan is currently Syed Imaad Ali who is playing on a special seat reserved for the reigning world youth champion. Imaad has 10.5 and a spread of 315. He is just 1.5 wins away from the 8th spot and still has a good chance of qualifying for the quarter finals. Young Ali Salman is not far behind with 10 wins. The second phase will be played over the next weekend on 27 & 28 November while the Quarter finals, Semi finals and final will be played on December 4 and 5, 2021.

World Scrabble Championship November 20 in Karachi
KARACHI (November 17, 2021):-Over 100 foreigner players will take part in the first ever virtual World Scrabble Championship, which will be hosted by Pakistan from November 20 to December 6, 2021 in Karachi city, as the championship will be pursuing prize money of 8000 Euro, Director Youth Program of the Pakistan Scrabble Championship Tariq Pervaiz revealed this in a press conference.  On the occasion, a seven-member Pakistani scrabble contingent led by former national champion Waseem Khatri was also announced. The other players are Hasham Hadi Khan, Ali Salman, Saim Waqar, Usman Shaukat and Basil Khan. “We have produced several world champions in scrabble but people are not aware of our achievements in this game. Pakistan is going to host the scrabble world cup, which is a bigger event then the T20 world cup as it will be watched in more nations than cricket,” Nadeem claimed.

Sub-Committee on Inter-Provincial Coordination Constituted
Abdul Jabbar Faisal ISLAMABAD (October 21, 2021):-Senator Irfan-ul-Haq Siddiqui, newly elected Convener of the sub-Committee on the Senate Standing Committee on Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC), said that a sports revolution was . He was chairing first meeting at Parliament House. Senator Irfan-ul-Haq Siddiqui was elected Convener of the Committee unanimously by the other two members of the sub-Committee -- Senator Rana Maqbool Ahmed and Senator Gurdeep Singh. Convener Committee, Senator Irfan-ul-Haq Siddiqui added, “sports is the most neglected sector by the Government in Pakistan and that this Committee would work beyond party lines ensuring that Pakistani sports reaches new heights and its previous glories restored, “while further adding he urged the media to assist the Committee in this cause, terming this a great service to Pakistan, enhancing its soft image in the world. According to an official press release, the agenda of the sub-Committee entailed discussion regarding the work-plan of the Committee. Members reminiscence the grandeurs of the past and attributed it to sportspersons being sponsored by different government departments.  It was asserted that for sports to prosper in Pakistan it was essential that the welfare of sportspersons is prioritised. The Committee stressed the need for ensuring that every school in the country boasted a playground. This would be an important step towards promoting sports at the grassroots level in Pakistan that would generate heroes in the future.  The Committee decided that Pakistani sports would benefit greatly if Local Bodies step in to ensure that all urban and rural vicinities are allotted a playgrounds.  The government must incentivize sports in the Country to provide sportspersons with initiative. Employing sportspersons would secure their future that is crucial for the development of sports in Pakistan.  The work plan of the Committee would entail reviewing the strengths, weaknesses, accomplishments and challenges of Sports Federations affiliated with the Pakistan Sports Board via a performa created to review details minutely.  The Committee was of the view that a criterion for the Minister for Sports must be devised by the Committee to ensure that the right person is granted Office.  A forensic audit of all 41 Sports Federations listed by the Pakistan Sports Board along with the Pakistan Olympic Association was stressed.  Talking to the media after the formal meeting Convener Committee, Senator Irfan-ul-Haq Siddiqui, welcomed suggestions regarding improvement of sports in Pakistan. He added that after every meeting an informal ‘one on one’ session with the Media for recommendations will be conducted to improve the sports scenario in Pakistan.   The Media recommended that the Pakistan Sports Board must be summoned to get a clear picture of the sports landscape in Pakistan. They added that Olympians must be invited to get a firsthand account of the challenges they face in the Country.

SBP conducts hockey and weightlifting trails
Sports Reporter LAHORE (October 21, 2021):-Sports Board Punjab (SBP), on the directions of Director General Sports Punjab Adnan ArshadAulakh, conducted hockey and weightlifting trials for the selection of Punjab’s hockey and weightlifting teams at National Hockey Stadium and outside Nishtar Park Sports Complex (NPSC) Gymnasium Hall respectively on Thursday. Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh while talking to media at Punjab’s weightlifting trials said that Sports Board Punjab is giving equal importance to all games to promote true sports culture among our youth. “We are holding back-to-back sports championships in a bid to trace fresh talent in all games from across the province”. Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh, who also witnessed hockey and weightlifting trials at their respective venues, said Sports Board Punjab is going to organize more sports events in near future to provide maximum playing opportunities to our youth. “The merit policy is being followed strictly during the trials. We have directed our selection committees that there will be no compromise on merit. Punjab is hosting and participating in more sports events than all other provinces”. Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh said the players from all nine divisions of the province took part in hockey and weightlifting trials. “After the trials, Punjab’s male and female hockey teams will participate in the Inter-Provincial Boys Under-17 and Girls Under-16 Hockey Tournament to be staged in Lahore from Nov 2 to 5, 2021. Similarly, Punjab’s U-17 Boys weightlifting team will feature in the Inter-Provincial Under-17 Boys Weightlifting Tournament to be staged also in Lahore on the same dates”. Director General Sports Punjab Adnan Arshad Aulakh said 200 boys and 100 girls from all nine divisions participated in hockey trials. “As many as 50 boys and 30 girls will be picked up for hockey camp training which is going to begin on Oct 23, 2021. After the training camp, 16-member boys and girls teams will be named to participate in Inter-Provincial Boys Under-17 and Girls Under-16 Hockey Tournament” He further informed that Punjab’s 5-member selection committee including Olympian Khawaja Junaid, Deputy Director Chand Perveen, Rana Nadeem Anjum, Rana Khalid and Shahid Nizami supervised the hockey trials activity. “In weightlifting trials, 65 U-17 boys from all nine divisions participated out of which 16 will be shortlisted for training and then 8 players will be chosen to feature in the Inter-Provincial Under-17 Boys Weightlifting Tournament”.

President Arif Alvi appreciates Sign Language Commentary on PTV
Abdul Jabbar Faisal ISLAMABAD (October 20, 2021):-President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Mohammad Arif Alvi appreciated the sign language commentary in the live show of Pakistan Television (PTF) T20 World Cup 2021 special. In his tweet, Alvi writes, “PTV people did an excellent job to arrange sign commentary for the deaf people of society”. It is important to mention here that it was the basic idea of Namood Muslim, a senior journalist and head of PTV sports desk, which is being applauded by all people. Now, deaf people will be able to understand the news of sports. The T20 World Cricket Cup 2021 special live show is being telecasted at 6:40 pm from October 17 and will continue till November 14, 2021.

Sohail Amir clinches the gold medal in Triathlon
ABDUL JABBAR FAISAL ISLAMABAD (October 17, 2021):-Sohail Amir has won the gold medal in the All Pakistan Triathlon Competition 2021 that conducted at Bahawalpur on other day. He completed all the three stages with the timing of in 1 hour 15 minutes. Mohammad Bilal and Amir Abbas remained at 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. According to a press release of Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), as many as 552 Triathletes representing all provinces Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtoonkawa including Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan enthusiastically participated in this grand event. Also different Government Departments, Pakistan Army, Civil Armed Forces, Students of Colleges and Universities, Professional athletes from Pakistan Triathlon Federation (PTF) and Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) took part in the competition. The Competition comprised of three sports events, which included 300m Swimming followed by 20km Cycling and 10km cross country running in the end. Corps Commander Bahawalpur Lieutenant General Khalid Zia, was the chief guest. Olympian Shahbaz Senior was the special guest of honor at the occasion. Corps Commander distributed medals and prizes among the winners.  A large number of notable dignitaries including Olympian Arshad Nadeem, National Hockey Coach Khwaja Junaid, Mountaineer Saima Baig, Olympian Boxer Asghar Changezi attended the ceremony. The top officials of Pakistan Tri-Athletics Federation (PTF), Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP), Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) were also present on the occasion. Cultural delegates and floats from Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Kashmir were the highlighted features of this ceremony.

Dodgeball: Saad Siddiqui makes a place in the national camp
Sports Reporter KARACHI (October 9, 2021):-An emerging player, Sadd Siddique has confirmed his berth in the national camp aiming to train the national team for the forthcoming World Dodge-Ball Championship, which will take place in Egypt. According to an official of Pakistan DodgeBall Federation (PDBF), Saad Siddiqui, who presents Sindh Panthers in the national events, has made his place in the Pakistani camp for the World DodgeBall Championship after showing a notable and acceptable performance in the recently concluded All Pakistan DodgeBall tournament. As many as 13 teams had participated in the tournament from all over the country, which was organized by Sindh Dodge Ball Association (SDBA) in collaboration with PDBF. In the men's category of the tournament, Punjab Tigers won the first position while Sindh Panthers spotted at second place.  Among the women, Sindh Panthers got the first position, Sindh Eagle grabbed second position while Punjab Falcon claimed the first position in the mixed category. Punjab Tigers won the second position. The special guest of the closing ceremony, Governor Sindh Imran Ismail and guest member Sindh Provincial Assembly Khawaja Izharul Hassan distributed prizes and certificates among the players.

Dr Erdener re-elected for fifth term as World Archery president
SPORTS DESK ISLAMABAD ( September 20, 2021):-Prof Dr Ugur Erdener has been unanimously re-elected as president of World Archery for a fifth and final term to serve until in 2025, after the next Olympic Games in Paris. He has served in the role since 2005. “Thank you for your great support and trust in me, once again and our executive board, and our great team,” said Prof Dr Erdener to delegates at the 54th congress in Yankton, USA. “Of course, I have a mission, it’s important for me to look towards our bright future. We will continue to discuss new ideas at our congresses and progress, together. Thank you, again, for your support.” A current member and former vice president of the International Olympic Committee, Prof Dr Erdener is also president of the Turkish Olympic Committee. Under his leadership, World Archery has modernised and evolved dramatically. The Hyundai Archery World Cup, celebrating its 15th season in 2021, was launched in 2006, the federation was rebranded from FITA in 2009 and archery has become a core and important sport on the Olympic programme. Elections took place for positions on the executive board. Colombia’s Maria Emma Gaviria was re-elected and Thomas Han of Korea was elected as vice presidents. Sanguan Kosavinta candidacy was withdrawn. Greg Easton of the USA and Vladimir Esheev of Russia were re-elected as members, with Sweden’s Carina Olsson also joining having received more votes than incumbent Aladin Gabr of Egypt.
