15-man English Squad announced for Lord’s Test against Ireland
Sports Bulletin ReportLondon (UK):-The England Men's selection panel have named a 15-strong squad for the Test match against Ireland, which will be started from June 1, 2023 at Lord’s Cricket Ground.Yorkshire wicketkeeper-batter Jonathan Bairstow is now fully fit, following his broken left leg and dislocated ankle, and is back with England for the first time since last August.Warwickshire seamer Chris Woakes returns to the Test squad for the first time since March 2022, and if selected, this will be his first Test appearance on home soil since August 2020.After taking a break from the tour of New Zealand, Durham fast bowler Mark Wood is back in the squad. Surrey batter Ollie Pope has been officially confirmed as England’s vice-captain with immediate effect.Sussex fast bowler Jofra Archer has been ruled out for the rest of the summer after recent scans revealed he has sustained a recurrence of a stress fracture to his right elbow. He will now spend time with the England and Sussex medical teams, who will work on his injury management.ECB Managing Director, Rob Key said:"We are looking forward to the summer ahead and getting into the swing of things, starting with a good test against Ireland.“It was a seriously tough decision to leave Ben Foakes out of the squad. He has been excellent for England in the last year, but Jonny Bairstow is one of the best players in the world whose performances last summer epitomised what we are about.“It has been a frustrating and upsetting period for Jofra Archer. He was making good progress until a recurrence of the elbow injury, which kept him out for an extended period previously. We wish him the best of luck with his recovery. I’m sure we will see Jofra back to his best and winning games for England, whatever the format. Hopefully, sooner rather than later. I would like to wish the players every success, especially those returning after some time away."England Men's Test Squad:Ben Stokes (Durham-Captain), James Anderson (Lancashire), Jonathan Bairstow (Yorkshire), Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire), Harry Brook (Yorkshire), Zak Crawley (Kent), Ben Duckett (Nottinghamshire), Dan Lawrence (Essex), Jack Leach (Somerset), Ollie Pope (Surrey), Matthew Potts (Durham), Ollie Robinson (Sussex), Joe Root (Yorkshire), Chris Woakes (Warwickshire), Mark Wood (Durham)

Cricket News: U-23 captain Dellon Peiris dreams to play in national team
BIPIN DANISri Lanka's 23-year-old Emerging Team captain Dellon Peiris, who won the Player of the Series on Monday in Japan, is ambitious to play in the national team. Speaking exclusively over the telephone from Japan on Monday, he said, "Definitely that's the dream goal of any young cricketer. I think this is a good break that I got to prove myself and hoping and looking forward to work much harder and make sure that I get an opportunity to represent my country and to bring glory to it".Dellon Peiris got 9 wickets in four matches (the fifth was washed out because of the rain on Monday) and all four were won by the visiting team. Thanking the Sri Lanka Cricket and the sports ministry for the opportunity given to him and the boys, the captain said, "This is actually my first tour captaining a national side, so really pleased and happy with the outcome of the series. I think the boys did a great job adapting to the situations and improving on their mindset and skill set to make this achievement a success. All three departments had a huge improvement from game to game and that was the positive side of the series". "The wickets were not the same as what we get in Sri Lanka. The bounce was not consistent at all. So huge credit to the boys for changing their style of play and adapting to the wickets to make sure we win games". On his own performance, he adds, "Yes, really happy on how things have started to fall in place in my cricket career in the past few months or so. Lot of effort and hard work was put into making sure that I improved my game, especially from the mental part of the game. I worked really hard on how to handle situations under pressure with bat and ball, so I feel that made the difference in being able to achieve this goal".Incidentally, the home team Japan has two Sri Lanka-born players, Sapun Nawarathna and Dinesh Sandaruwan. The team manager, Vinothan John was equally pleased with the team performance. Incidentally, this has been the fourth successive win by his four teams under his management. He managed One-day A team against England Lions, his team won the NSL 4-day tournament and one-day tournament as well.
