FIFA Ranking: Argentina still on top, Comoros continue their climb
Islamabad (Sports Desk): Thirty-two qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup 26™, 47 for the CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2025, 79 Nations League matches and 17 friendlies were played during the recent international window, making October 2024 a particularly busy month of football and one that has led to a number of changes in the FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking.The top three teams are also bunching up. Argentina (1st) are still on top, but their lead over France (2nd) and Spain (3rd) has been cut. England (4th), Brazil (5th) and Belgium (6th) have all held on to their positions. Portugal (7th, up 1) and Italy (9th, up 1) are the only climbers within the top ten, which is completed by the Netherlands (8th, down 1) and Colombia (10th, down 1), with Germany (11th, up 2) now knocking on the door.Elsewhere, Algeria (37th, up 4), Peru (38th, up 5) and Greece (42nd, up 6) have all made moves worthy of note, and Cameroon (49th, up 4) have returned to the top 50. Other African teams to have made significant progress in the ranking include Equatorial Guinea (88th, up 6), Zimbabwe (117th, up 7), The Gambia (128th, up 7) and Botswana (140th, up 7), the last of whom, the Zebras, have posted the biggest jump overall in terms of points gained (up 38.30 points).There is further cause for celebration for Africa as two other CAF teams have climbed the most places (ten) in this edition of the ranking, namely Comoros (108th) and Sudan (110th), who came out on top against Tunisia and Ghana, respectively, in their recent home-and-away duels as part of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 qualifiers.

Lahore Polo: Security 2000, MP/Sheikhoo, Newage, TN dominate on day 3
Sports Bulletin ReportLAHORE: Security 2000, Master Paints/Sheikhoo Steel, Newage Cables and Total Nutrition dominated the third day of the Lahore Smart City Polo in Pink Tournament, organized by Lahore Polo Club. Present at the event were officials from Lahore Smart City, Pink Ribbon Pakistan, families, Lahore Polo Club President Malik Azam Hayat Noon, executive committee members, and others. In the first match of the day, Security 2000 defeated Rijas/Barry's team 7-4½. For Security 2000, Muhammad Ali emerged as top scorer with a contribution of fabulous five goals, while Mir Huzaifa Ahmed, playing in place of Farhad Shaikh, thrashed in two goals. For Rijas/Barry's, Mohib Faisal Shehzad converted two goals, while Mumtaz Abbas and Nafees Barry struck one goal each. The second match saw Master Paints/Sheikhoo Steel triumph over Crew Logix Technologies with a score of 9-5. For Master Paints, Raja Temur Nadeem and Maria Candelaria each hammered a hat-trick of goals while Sufi Haroon banged in a brace and Osman Aziz Anwar scored one goal. From Crew Logix Technologies, Malik Ali Kuli Khan, Haris Haroon Malik, and Mahnum Faisal each scored a goal, while they had a two-goal handicap advantage. In another exciting match of the day, Newage Cables overpowered Olympia 9-4. For Newage Cables, Raja Samiullah smashed in superb six goals, and Alman Jaleel Azam, Adnan Jaleel Azam, and Jade Wheeler contributed with one goal each. The day's last match proved a high-scoring affair, where Total Nutrition outpaced Nurpur Bandobast by a good margin of 13-8½. From the winning team, Saqib Khan Khakwani emerged as top scorer as he fired in five fabulous goals while Eesha Haye and Usman Haye thrashed in three goals each, and Ahmed Zubair Butt banged in a brace. From the losing side, the major contribution came from Taimur Hayat Noon with a contribution of five goals while his teammate Gussey banged in a brace.

Sheheryar Memorial Tennis Championship: Noor, Ushna move into semifinals
LAHORE (PR): Noor Malik and Ushna Sohail cruised into semifinals of the ongoing Sheheryar Malik Memorial Tennis Championship 2024 after winning their respective matches of the Ladies’ Singles at the Sports Board Tennis Complex, Nishtar Park Lahore. In the ladies' singles quarterfinals, Noor Malik delivered a commanding performance, defeating Rahat ul Ain 6-1, 6-1 to secure her place in the semifinals. Ushna Sohail also cruised through her match with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Soha Ali. Other quarterfinal winners included Mehaq Khokhar, who overcame Khunsa Babar 6-1 before Babar retired, and Sheeza Sajid, who swept Lalarukh 6-2, 6-0.The Seniors 40+ doubles quarterfinals saw Azhar Ali Khan and Hadi dominate Syed Shamas ud Din and Ahsan Wali, winning 6-3, 6-0. In the seniors 55+ semifinals, Kafi Siddiqui and Waheed Ahmad battled to a 3-6, 6-4, 10-7 win over Dr Arif and Zargam Khan, while Nauman Aleem and Waqar Nisar defeated Dr Shehzad and Ch Amir 6-1, 6-1. In the boys U-18 quarterfinals, Hamza Asim secured an easy 6-0, 6-1 win over Mohammad Yahya, while M Salaar fought through a tough three-setter to defeat Yafat Amir Mazari 6-7, 6-1, 6-4. Abubakar Talha, the champion of the last junior tennis event, advanced with a 6-1, 6-4 victory against Asad Zaman. In the boys U-14 quarterfinals, standout performances included Hassan Usmani’s 4-0, 4-1 win over Syed Mahad Shehzad and Ruhab Faisal’s 4-2, 4-2 triumph over Shayan Afridi. Abdur Rehman and Omer Jawad also progressed with comfortable victories. Abdur Rehman defeated M Junaid 4-0, 4-1 and Omer Jawad beat Razik Sultan 4-0, 4-2. Meanwhile, in the boys U-12 pre-quarterfinals, Arsh Imran beat Zayd Zaman 5-3, 4-1, and Majid Ali Bachani fought back to defeat M Faizan 0-4, 4-1, 4-0. Other winners included Shayan Afridi, Mohammad Ali, and Mohammad Junaid. Shayan Afridi beat Omer Zaman 4-0, 4-0, Mohammad Ali beat Fahad Mustafa 4-0, 4-0 and M Junaid beat Aliyan Ali 4-1, 4-2.

PBCC Blind Cricket T-20 Super League: Punjab and Sindh post wins
Rasheed AhmedBAHAWALPUR: Punjab and Sindh registered victories on the second day of the 8th PBCC Blind Cricket T-20 Super League 2024 at Dring Stadium, Bahawalpur on Wednesday.Game-3 (Punjab beat KPK by 9 wickets): The 3rd match of the event played between Khyber Pakhtunkawa (KPK) and Punjab. KPK won the toss and chose to bat first. Unfortunately, they struggled against Punjab's bowling attack and were bowled out for 164 runs in just 19.1 overs. Kamran Akhter was the standout performer for KPK, scoring 27 runs off 18 balls, while Mohammad Salman contributed 22 runs off 20 balls. Punjab's bowlers were in fine form, with Mati Ullah, Mohsin Khan, and Kashif Siddique each claiming 2 wickets.In reply, Punjab made quick work of the target, scoring 165 runs in only 14.4 overs, losing just 1 wicket. Haroon Khan delivered a solid performance, remaining unbeaten with 87* runs off 45 balls, well supported by Mati Ullah’s commendable innings of 52 runs off 40 balls.Man of the Match: Mati UllahGames-4 (Sindh beat Balochistan by 35 runs): Balochistan won the toss and opted to bowl first, allowing Sindh to set a challenging target for the opposition. Badar Munir showcased his batting capability once again, leading the charge with an impressive 70 runs off 55 balls. Accompanying him well was Sana Ullah Khan, who contributed significantly with a brisk 66 runs off just 37 balls, pushing the scoring rate and providing momentum to the Sindh innings. For Balochistan, Ayoub Khan stepped up and claimed 2 crucial wickets, while Mohammad Asif added to the tally by taking 1 wicket.In their reply, Balochistan put up a commendable effort but ultimately fell short of their target by 35 runs, ending their innings with a total of 163 runs for 4 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Mohammad Rashid emerged as the standout performer for Balochistan, scoring 35 runs off 25 balls, while Mohammad Ayyaz contributed with a 22 runs off 15 balls. PU secure positions in All Pakistan HEC Taekwondo Championship
LAHORE (PR): Punjab University has secured 2nd position in 13th All Pakistan HEC Taekwondo men’s and women’s Championships 2024 held at University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore. As many as 17 universities participated in the event.Deputy Director Hurria Hussein was the team manager while Wasif Mehmood was assistant manager. Moreover, in the 13th All Pakistan HEC Taekwondo Men Championships 2024 held at University of Central Punjab, Punjab University secured 3rd position. As many as 16 universities took part in the championship. Assistant Director Sports Mohammad Nabeel was the team manager.

Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Cricket Tournament to commence on October 26
Sports Bulletin ReportLAHORE: Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, Pakistan’s premier first-class tournament, will begin from 26 October. Eighteen teams from the 16 regions will participate in the four-day tournament that will conclude on 19 December.The 18 teams include Abbottabad Region, AJK Region, Bahawalpur Region, Dera Murad Jamali Region, Faisalabad Region, FATA Region, Hyderabad Region, Islamabad Region, Karachi Region Blues, Karachi Region Whites, Lahore Region Whites, Lahore Region Blues, Larkana Region, Multan Region, Peshawar Region, Quetta Region, Rawalpindi Region and Sialkot Region.Karachi Region Whites will defend the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy title this year after the Sarfaraz Ahmed-led side defeated Faisalabad Region in the final by 456 runs at the Gaddafi Stadium from 22 to 26 October 2023. Abdullah Khurram Niazi, Director - Domestic Cricket Operations said: “Quaid-e-Azam Trophy is the pinnacle of domestic cricket in Pakistan as it is not just a tournament but also an event that showcases the immense talent across the country and prepares them for the challenges of international cricket. As always, we will continue to provide the best possible platform for players to excel and show their capabilities on the biggest stage in domestic cricket as they will be rubbing their shoulders with the best players of the country. Four more matches decided in Lahore Smart City Polo in Pink Tournament
FG/Din, SQ Seagold, Guard Group, and Platinum Homes post victories on Day-2 Sports Bulletin ReportLahore (October 22, 2024): Four more matches were decided on the second day of the Lahore Smart City Polo in Pink Tournament at Lahore Polo Club on Tuesday. The matches attracted a large crowd of spectators and families. The event was graced by the presence of Lahore Polo Club President Malik Azam Hayat Noon, Executive Committee members, Secretary Lt Col (Retd) Aamir, and several former players. In the first match of the day, FG/Din Polo defeated Lahore Smart City by 10-7. For FG/Din Polo, Raja Mikail Sami scored five goals, Mian Abbas Mukhtar and Rafi Sheikh each scored two, while Sahar Yaghoobi added one goal. For Lahore Smart City, Agha Musa Ali Khan smashed in five goals, while Farooq Amin Soofi and Bilal Hai contributed one goal each. In the second match, SQ Seagold outpaced One Degree, winning 9-4. English player Charlotte Sweeney fired in four goals for the winning side, while Azam Hayat Noon and Taimur Moazzam added two goals each. Adil Rao thrashed in two goals for One Degree, with the team also benefiting from a two-goal handicap advantage. The third match of the day was won by Guard Group/Zacky Farms, who defeated Black Horse Paints 8-5. Shah Qubilai Alam led Guard Group/Zacky Farms with superb six goals, while Taimur Ali Malik and Ahmed Bilal Riaz each scored one goal. Sindh set a challenging total, amassing 221 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Badar Muneer impressed with the bat, scoring a brisk 119 runs off 60 balls. Sana Ullah Khan provided strong support, remaining unbeaten with 63 runs off 45 balls.In response, Punjab put forth a commendable effort but eventually fell short, finishing with 211 runs for 3 wickets in their 20 overs. For Balochistan, Asif, Irfan, Ayyaz, Niamat and Talha took 1 wicket each.In their reply, Balochistan tried its best to reach the target but fell short by 21 runs, finishing their innings at 183 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in allotted 20 overs.
