PCB appoints Haroon Rashid as head of the National Selection Committee
Sports Bulletin Report LAHORE: Former Test batter Haroon Rashid has been appointed as Chair of the men’s National Selection Committee, while other members of his panel will be announced in due course. Haroon played 23 Tests and 12 ODIs from 1977 to 1983 and last held this position in 2015-16. Most recently, he was the Convener of the Interim Selection Committee after having previously served in administrative and coaching roles with the age-group and national sides. Chair of the PCB Management Committee, Najam Sethi said: “I want to congratulate Haroon Rashid and hope he will use his cricket knowledge, understanding and background while picking squads for the upcoming international assignments.” Haroon Rashid said: “I am honoured to have been entrusted with this responsibility and look forward to working very closely with the team management and the National High Performance Centre so that we have clear pathways and can work collectively to select best available players for what will be a busy and high-profile year of cricket, including the ACC Asia Cup, ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup and the tour of Australia for three Tests. “One of the key aspects I will like to focus on my time will be improving communication. Report: Abdul Jabbar Faisal & Abdullah Asjad ISLAMABAD (January 23, 2023): KPK Warriors and Kashmir Janbaaz recorded victories on the opening day of the Kingdom Valley All-Stars Super League (ASSL) after beating their respective challengers Baluchistan Bulls and Punjab Panthers respectively by 23 runs and 1 wicket at two different venues here on Monday. Chairman Kingdom Valley Ghulam Hussain Shahid graced the opening ceremony as chief guest. All the participating teams were introduced to him. On this occasion, GH Shahid assured the players to provide maximum support to the players. Abdul Waheed Sheikh and Waqar Ahmed Khan were also present on this eve. At Marghzar cricket ground, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) defeated Baluchistan by 23 runs. Baluchistan skipper won the coin’s battle and decided to chase a set target in 20 overs per innings fixture. KPK posted 137 for 8 runs total on the board, as Zohab Khan was top scorer with 46 runs. He faced 45 balls and hit five boundaries during his sparking innings. Adeel Shahzad contributed 35 runs in 28 balls while Farooq Ahmed 12 runs in 10 balls. 20-K Cup: Cricket Center beat City Gymkhana to reach semifinals
Sports Bulletin Report LAHORE: Cricket Center Cricket Club reached the semifinals of the 20-K Cup 2023 T20 Cricket Tournament after beating City Gymkhana Cricket Club by 5 wickets in the first quarterfinal played here at the Pindi Gymkhana Cricket Ground on bright sunny Sunday.  City Gymkhana, batting first, posted 182 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs. Opener Rizwan emerged as top scorer as he smashed superb 70 runs off 40 balls with the help of 8 fours and 5 sixes while another opener Muaz Zahid scored 52-ball 57 runs, hitting 7 boundaries and 3 sixes. Mohammad Bilal remained unbeaten for 25 runs. Muhammad Ali’s excellent spell of 4-24 restricted their opponents from piling up 200 plus target. Bilawal Iqbal also secured one scalp for 41 runs.  Cricket Center successfully chased the target of 183 runs in 19 overs for the loss of 5 wickets. Mohammad Waheed played impressive knock of 58 runs off 36 balls while Ameer Hamza hammered 38, Imran Butt 29 and Ali Zafar unbeaten 29 runs. Abdul Rehman bowled well for City Gymkhana and bagged 2 wickets for 29.  For his outstanding bowling performance, Test cricketer Mohammad Ali was named player of the match. On Monday (January 23), the second quarterfinal will be played between Ali Garh Cricket Club and Ludhiana Gymkhana Cricket Club here at the Model Town Greens ground at 11:00 am.

Pak Lions win last league match of 20-K Cup
Sports Bulletin Report LAHORE: Pak Lions outshone Pindi Gymkhana Cricket Club by 69 runs in the last league match of the 20-K Cup 2023 T20 Cricket Tournament here on Saturday at Pindi Gymkhana Ground. The quarterfinals will commence on Sunday (January 22). The first quarterfinal of this prestigious event will be contested between City Gymkhana Cricket Club and Cricket Center Cricket Club here at the Pindi Gymkhana Cricket Ground at 11:00 am. The victory of Pak Lions had no impact on the standings of the team as they couldn’t qualify for the quarterfinals.  Ali Umar’s brilliant unbeaten knock of 105 runs off 54 balls with the help of 11 boundaries and 6 sixes is the highlight of the exciting last league match of the one of the premier club tournaments of the country, that carries highly lucrative prize money on offer for the winners and top performers. It will also play a key role in the promotion and betterment of club cricket in the country. Nabeel Ahmad, who himself is a former first-class cricketer, has been organizing this tournament in the memory of his late father, Col Fateh Sher Khan. Pak Lions, batting first, posted a mammoth total of 233-6 in allotted 20 overs, thanks to superb century by hero of the day Ali Umar. Diana Baig ruled out, Sadaf Shamas named replacement
Sports Bulletin Report Brisbane: Right-arm fast bowler Diana Baig has been ruled out of Australia T20Is and ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 due to fracture in her index finger of the right hand. Right-handed batter Sadaf Shamas, who is part of the reserves for Australia T20I series and ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will replace Diana. Diana suffered injury in the third ODI against Australia today when she tried to take return catch on the penultimate ball of the seventh over of Australia’s innings. Diana was taken to the local hospital where X-rays confirmed the fracture. Diana has been advised four weeks’ rest by the PCB Medical panel.

Pakistani skipper Bismah Maroof won the toss and decided to bowl first. While Australian team set a big 336 runs total on the scoreboard in 50 overs. Australian batter Beth Mooney played a brilliant inning of 133 runs, faced only 105 balls, and smashed six maximums and 14 fours. Najam Sethi reveals HBL PSL Season-8 schedule
Defending champions Lahore Qalandars to meet Multan Sultans in the opening match Sports Bulletin Report LAHORE: Lahore Qalandars will have an opportunity to make history when they will take on Multan Sultans in the opening match of the HBL Pakistan Super League 8 at the picturesque Multan Cricket Stadium on Monday, 13 February. Lahore Qalandars had defeated defending champions Multan Sultans at the Gaddafi Stadium by 42 runs in 2022, and will now have an additional incentive going into the eighth edition of the tournament, with the chance of becoming the first franchise to win back to back titles. Prior to Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi were in the similar situation when they reached the 2018 final as defending champions but faltered at the last hurdle and lost to Islamabad United, who clinched their second title in three years. Karachi, Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi will share between them the 34-match tournament, and the event schedule has been designed in such a way that the four home sides will each play five matches in front of their fans and supporters – one against each side. This means Qalandars will play five matches at the Gaddafi Stadium, while their other five matches will be in Multan (one) and, Karachi and Rawalpindi (two each). Similarly, Sultans’ five away matches will be in Rawalpindi (three) and, Karachi and Lahore (one each); Kings’ away matches will be in Rawalpindi (three) and, one each in Lahore and Multan; and United’s five away matches will be in Karachi (three) and, one each in Lahore and Multan. Superb all-round performance of Bilal Asif (37 runs & 2-17) helped Cricket Center Club defeat Shinning Club by 3 wickets in the 37th match of the tournament. Shinning Club, batting first, scored 131-9 in 20 overs. Umar Dar and Ali Raza hammered 36 runs each while Zain Bin Farooq hit 20 runs. Bilal Asif and M Waheed bagged 2 wickets each.  Cricket Center replied strongly and chased the target in 18.3 overs, losing 7 wickets. Usman Ali took 2 wickets and Hammad Ali and Ali Hamza got one wicket each.  All-rounder Jahangir Mirza (33 runs & 2-14) steered City Gymkhana to a thrashing 72-run triumph over Prince Club in the 38th match of the tournament. City Gymkhana, batting first, posted a huge total of 180-8 in 20 overs with Jahangir Mirza smashing superb 33 runs while Rana Arslan and Waseem Akram contributed with 25 and 21 runs respectively. Zeerak Ghazi and Ammar Tariq grabbed 2 wickets each.  Prince Club failed to chase the target and could score 108-8 in 20 overs. Only Shoaib Arshad (24) and Shams ud Din (28) batted sensibly. Jahangir Mirza claimed 2-14 while Rana Arslan and Usama Tariq got one wicket each.  Fahad Munir (39 runs) batted Ludhiana Gymkhana to a convincing 6-wicket victory over Shah Faisal Club in a low-scoring 39th match of the tournament. Shah Faisal, batting first, could score 94 runs in 20 overs. Ali Manzoor cracked unbeaten 32 runs while Muhammad Ilyas hit 32. Imran Ali, Tanveer Aslam and Kashif Siddique took one wicket each. Ludhiana Gymkhana comfortably chased the target in 10.4 overs for the loss of 4 wickets. Fahad Munir thrashed tremendous 39 runs while M Waqas scored 26 runs and Asim Ali Nasir unbeaten 22. Subhan Malik bagged 2 wickets for 10 runs. The only match of Saturday (January 21, 2023) will be played between Pindi Gymkhana and Pak Lions.

India penalised for slow over-rate in first ODI against New Zealand
Sports Bulletin Report Dubai (UAE): India have been fined 60 per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against New Zealand in the first ODI in Hyderabad on Wednesday. Javagal Srinath of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after India were ruled to be three overs short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration. In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined 20 per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time. India captain Rohit Sharma pled guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing. On-field umpires Anil Chaudhary and Nitin Menon, third umpire K N Ananthapadmanabhan and fourth umpire Jayaraman Madanagopal leveled the charge.
