Sports Reporter ISLAMABAD (February 11, 2020):-The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has expressed its grief and sorrow over the passing of former Test batsman Waqar Hasan in Karachi this morning. He was 87. Waqar, born in Amritsar on 12 September 1932, was the last surviving member of the Pakistan’s first-ever Test side that played against India in New Delhi in October 1952. On that tour, Waqar had scores of eight, five (in New Delhi), 23 (in Lucknow), 81, 65 (in Mumbai), 49 (in Chennai) and 29 and 97 (in Kolkata). He was also the member of the Pakistan side which recorded a historic win over England at The Oval in 1954 by 24 runs. As an attractive batsman, Waqar ended his 21-Test career in 1959 after scoring 1,071 runs. His only century (189) came against New Zealand at Bagh-e-Jinnah in Lahore in October 1955. His 189 was then a Pakistan record, which was broken next day by Imtiaz Ahmed, who scored 209 as the two batsmen put on 308 for the seventh wicket - a Pakistan record. Following retirement, Waqar continued to serve Pakistan cricket in various administrative roles, including chair of the national selection committee in 1982-83. PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani said: “It is a sad day for Pakistan cricket as today we have lost our last hero who put us on the world cricket map in 1952. He was from that elite group cricketers that laid the foundation of what turned into a proud cricket nation. “I had the privilege of knowing him personally and I have nothing but utmost respect for Waqar. “Waqar was not only an outstanding cricketer but a thorough gentleman who set very high standards. He was an articulate and smart cricket administrator who contributed in Pakistan with his wisdom and progressive approach and vision. “On behalf of the PCB, I offer my deepest condolences to Waqar Hasan’s family and friends, and assure them that Waqar will always be remembered for the immense contribution he made to Pakistan cricket.”

Sports Desk ISLAMABAD (February 11, 2020):-Belgium’s Vincent Vanasch has been named as the 2019 FIH Men's Goalkeeper of the Year, the International Hockey Federation (FIH) can reveal. The Red Lions shot-stopper took the prize ahead of Australia’s Tyler Lovell and Victor Aly of Germany, who finished second and third respectively. Vincent Vanasch has made history as the first goalkeeper, who claimed three consecutive times FIH Goalkeeper of the Year awards. In winning the title for the third time, the Belgium goalkeeper has cemented his reputation as the best ‘keeper in the world at the moment. At 33-years of age, Vanasch remains at the top of his game and, if selected, will be looking to compete in his third Olympic Games later this year. With more than 230 international caps to his name, Vanasch has been with the Belgium squad throughout their exciting journey over the past eight years. From a fifth-place finish at the London 2012 Olympics to silver at Rio 2016. The Red Lions were crowned World Cup winners in 2018 and took over top spot in the FIH World Rankings in December 2018. The success continued throughout 2019 for both Belgium and Vanasch. The team finished in second place in the FIH Pro League, behind Australia, before they stormed to victory in front of an exuberant home crowd at the Belfius EuroHockey Championships. Vanasch was voted Goalkeeper of the Tournament at the end of that triumphant event. The first-place finished, which came courtesy of a dominant 5-0 win over Spain in the final - sealed Belgium’s spot at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. In a move that underlines Vanasch’s determination to keep setting himself new targets, Vanasch has recently moved clubs from Waterloo Ducks to Rott-Weiss Cologne. Australia trounced Azerbaijan by 53-24 in the first match on the third day of Kabaddi World Cup 2020 while Germany emerged winner in the second match 49-28 against England. India toppled Sierra Leone by 45-18 in the third and last match of Kabaddi World Cup 2020 on Tuesday. It is pertinent mention here that Kabaddi World Cup 2020 is being organized jointly by Punjab govt, Sports Board Punjab and Pakistan Kabaddi Federation (PKF) at three cities of Punjab Lahore, Faisalabad and Gujrat from February 9 to 16, 2020. Three more matches will be played on the 4th day of Kabaddi World Cup 2020 on Wednesday in Faisalabad’s Iqbal Stadium. Canada will face Azerbaijan in the first match at 1.30pm while the second match will be played between Iran and Germany at 2.45pm. The election was held under the supervision of the 3-members election committee namely Chairman, Chaudhry Ahmed Nadeem Akbar and other two members Col Kamran Janjua and Mohammad Hassan. Ijaz ur Rehman (Islamabad) and Mohammad Hussain Chatta (Islamabad) were elected as President and Secretary General of Pakistan Tenpin Bowling Federation unanimously by the House. Other office bearers are; Senior Vice President, Khawaja Ahmed Mustaqeen (Sindh); Vice Presidents Aleem Agha(Sindh) and Saleem Baig(Punjab); Joint Secretaries, Shabbir Lashkar (Sindh) and Noreen Ghaffar (Punjab); Finance Secretary, Shakeel Khan(KPK) and Information Secretary, Tanveer Ahmed Khan. Five members executive committee comprises; Mohammad Hussain(AJK), Asif Orakezai (KPK) , Ghulam Mohammad (Balochistan), Sajjad Shiggri (Gilgit Baltistan) and Malik Liaqat (Punjab) in the meeting. Sports Desk ISLAMABAD (February 11, 2020):-Front foot no ball technology will be used in a major tournament for the first time at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia later this month. The decision to use this system was made after successful trials conducted recently in both India and the West Indies. India-West Indies The third umpire will monitor the front foot landing position after each ball and communicate to the on-field umpire if the delivery was a no ball. The on-field umpires have been instructed not to call any front foot no balls unless advised to do so by the third umpire, although they will be responsible for calling all other types of no ball on the field. The technology was recently trialed across 12 games, during which 4717 balls were bowled and 13 no balls (0.28% of deliveries) were called. All deliveries were judged accurately. Geoff Allardice, ICC General Manager Cricket said: “Cricket has an excellent track record of introducing technology to support the decision making of our match officials and I’m confident that this technology will reduce the small number of front foot no ball errors at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.” “No balls are difficult for umpires to call accurately, and even though the percentage of deliveries that are no balls is low, it is important to call them correctly. Since we first trialed this concept in the ODI series between England and Pakistan in 2016 the technology has improved significantly, enabling us to introduce it cost-effectively, and with minimum impact on the flow of the game.”

Day-2 Match No 1: KPK Vs Balochistan: (Venue: Rashid Latif Cricket Academy, Karachi) In the morning, Balochistan won the toss and decided to bowl first. KPK got off to the flying start, its first wicket fell in the shape of Matiullah at the score of 117 runs in 12th over, Matiuallh scored 47 runs. Tahir Ali 85 off 59 balls, Riasat Khan’s 62 off 38 balls and Muhammad Akram’s 49 runs off 28 balls kept accelerating the run rate and remained more than 10 runs per over till 28th over of the innings. After their departure, Balochistan squeezed KPK run rate and restricted them to 371 runs all out in 39.3 overs. Badar Munir took 3 wickets for 80 runs in 8 overs and Shafiullah was bit more expensive, he took 2 wickets by giving away 102 runs in 8 overs. Balochistan Captain, Badar Munir opened the innings with Akmal Hayat. Akmal couldn’t excel and was bowled by Muhammad Ijaz after scoring 8 runs. Sajid Nawaz was dismissed after scoring 20 runs. Moeen Aslam stood tall from one end, he made 130 runs off 90 balls and Mohsin Khan 45 runs off 32 balls helped Punjab to score 347 runs all out in 39.4 overs. Muhammad Safdar was the star for Islamabad, he took 4 wickets by conceding only 37 runs. Islamabad chased the target in 34.3 overs for the loss of 6 wickets. Muhammad Rashid who was dismissed cheaply the other day, made his presence felt with scintillating 120 runs innings off 60 balls featuring 16 fours and 2 sixes. Sports Reporter ISLAMABAD (February 11, 2020):-Talha Talib has won three gold medals in 67kg category competition in International solidarity Weightlifting Championship in Tashkent, which is also a qualification event for Tokyo Olympic Games 2020. He won one gold medal in Snatch event by lifting 142kg & won another gold medal in Clean & Jerk event by lifting 162kg. His 3rd gold medal was in total aggregate by lifting 304kg’s. Altogether more than 40 countries are participating in these competitions including Turkey, Serbia, Libya, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Ghana. It is worth mentioning that Talha Talib has also won 1 gold & 2 silver medals in the last edition of these championships held in Cairo Egypt 2018.

SB News ISLAMABAD (February 11, 2020):-The Pakistan Cricket Board today announced the schedule of Marylebone Cricket Club’s tour of Lahore, Pakistan, which runs from 13-19 February. The MCC will open its weeklong tour, its first in 48 years, with a 20-over match against Lahore Qalandars on 14 February at the Gaddafi Stadium after its arrival in Lahore on 13 February. Action will then shift to Aitchison College where the visitors will play Pakistan Shaheens in a 50-over fixture on 16 February. After it, the MCC will meet Northern and Multan Sultans in 20-over matches on 17 and 19 February.
