Sports Bulletin Report KARACHI:-Debutant leg-spinner Tuba Hassan produced a magnificent spell which earned her the player-of-the-match award as Pakistan romped home to a six-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the first match of the three-match T20I series played at the Southend Club, Karachi on Tuesday. Tuba produced a stunning spell of leg-spin bowling to bamboozle the tourists in her maiden appearance for Pakistan. The Lahore-born registered the best figures on T20I debut for a Pakistan bowler with figures of 4-1-8-3. Sri Lanka were pegged back at the start of the innings with the seasoned left-arm-spinner Anam Amin taking the first two wickets including the big wicket of Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu who had earlier won the toss and opted to bat first. Nilakshi de Silva and Harshitha Madavi top-scored with Sri Lanka with 25 runs each. De Silva scored her runs off 22 balls with the help of a six and a four. Madavi scored her runs off 35 balls with the help of two fours. Anam added one more wicket in her second spell to finish with three wickets for 21 runs from her four overs. Pacer Aimen Anwar contributed with two wickets for 32 runs as Pakistan bowlers maintained their stranglehold on the opponents. Pakistan lost their other debutant Gull Feroza (0) in the opening over of their innings, Iram Javed scored a quickfire 18 off 14 balls (three fours) before she was dismissed by Oshadi Ranasinghe in the sixth over. Muneeba Ali (18) was dismissed with the score at 45 in the 9th over. The seasoned duo of captain Bismah Maroof and Nida Dar added 51 runs for the fourth-wicket to consolidate Pakistan’s position. Bismah fell for 28 to Ranasinghe in the 17th over. Nida took Pakistan to victory on the second ball of the 19th over, the all-rounder remained unbeaten on 36 off 27 (two fours, one six). Ranasinghe took two wickets. The second match of the series will be played at the same venue on Thursday. BIPIN DANI Sri Lanka's Test captain Dimuth Karunaratne and recently retired fast bowler Suranga Lakmal have signed with Endeavour Hills Cricket Club (EHCC) to play Premier League Cricket in Australia. This was revealed by the Club president Arjun Rajendran.  Speaking exclusively over the telephone from Australia, he said, "we are excited to have Dimuth (Karunaratne) play a few games when he does not have Test commitments later this year and Suranga Lakmal will join after his (English) county engagements". The 34-year-old opening batter Dimuth will play for this club once the Test series against Australia and Pakistan are over, whereas the 35-year-old right-arm fast bowler Lakmal will join after his stint with Derbyshire is over. "These Sri Lankan players and other Asian players have been signed to first support our club's vision with building and strengthening the Sri Lankan and Indian community and that attracts more members and players". "Our club is very big. We have 10 junior sides, 6 senior sides and 4 veterans. All in all, ages 8 to age 80 play cricket. Our club has a very large Sri Lankan and Indian members and players. We have Dilshan as captain and coach. Lahiru Thirimanne played a few games. There are other players who have played First Class cricket in Sri Lanka also play for us", the president signed off.

Sports Bulletin Report KARACHI:-After three days of intense practice and preparations at the Southend Club, Karachi, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are ready for action with the first of the three T20Is set to be played on Tuesday. Bismah Maroof-led Pakistan and Chamari Athapaththu-led Sri Lanka are eager to showcase their talent, skill and temperament in the shortest format of the game. All three matches will be played at the Southend Club which is in close proximity to Karachi’s Sea View Beach. The weather is expected to stay hot and humid but the Karachi sea breeze is expected to make the conditions better for the two teams with the T20Is set to start at 2pm local time. The series will be broadcast live on PTV Sports. Both teams have so far played 13 T20Is against each other and have an even record with six wins apiece (one No Result). The last time these two sides faced off in a T20I bilateral series, Pakistan came out on top with a 2-1 win. Tomorrow’s match will be the first T20I between the two sides in Pakistan. In the current ICC Women’s T2oI Rankings, Pakistan are placed at seventh, one place ahead of Sri Lanka. In the T20I bowlers’ rankings, spinner Anam Amin and pacer Diana Baig represent Pakistan in the top ten. Athapaththu is ranked eight amongst the batters and occupies the seventh spot in the all-rounders’ rankings while Nida Dar is placed ninth. Both captains have meanwhile set their sights on a series win in what is Sri Lanka women’s first tour to Pakistan in more than 16 years. Pakistan captain Bismah Maroof said: “We are looking forward to an exciting series with Sri Lanka. After the World Cup we will start afresh with an aim of winning both T20I and ODI series. We have a packed schedule this year and this series will help us prepare for the challenges ahead especially the Commonwealth Games. “We have an exciting squad in place for both formats (T20 and ODIs). The newcomers in the two squads have a great chance of proving their worth when they get a chance to play. It is always exciting to play an international series in Pakistan and such occasions always motivate us to do well and inspire the fans. I think we will have a good contest as Sri Lanka are a formidable opponent especially in Asian conditions. The hot weather will be a challenge but as professional players we would endeavour to overcome the challenge.” Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu said: “We are excited to play a strong Pakistan team in its backyard. Sports Bulletin Report LAHORE:-The National Selection Committee (NSC) of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) named the squad for the three ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League One-Day Internationals against the West Indies, which are scheduled to be played at the Pindi Cricket Stadium on 8, 10 and 12 June. As the series will not be played in a Managed Event Environment, the selectors have decided to reduce the 21-player squad for the home Australia ODIs to 16 players and those left out of the squad from next month’s matches are Asif Afridi, Asif Ali, Haider Ali and Usman Qadir. Saud Shakeel was not considered as he is scheduled to undergo a surgery for sinusitis. Babar Azam will continue to lead the side, while Shadab Khan, who missed the Australia ODIs due to an injury, has returned as vice-captain. The squad will assemble in Rawalpindi on 1 June for a training camp and Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Mohammad Rizwan and Shadab Khan, who are presently playing in the English County Championship, will join the squad in time for the practice sessions. Chief Selector Mohammad Wasim said: “As the ODIs against the West Indies are part of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 qualification, we have decided to give best chance to our side to collect maximum points and strengthen our chances of progressing directly for the pinnacle 50-over tournament. We have retained the same core of players so they further establish themselves in the format. I hope this bunch will continue the form they gained from the Australia series. “Also, and taking into consideration that there will be no Managed Event Environment and the players can be called at a short notice, we have reduced the squad size to 16 players. “For the Australia ODIs, we had also announced backup players as cover to those players who were carrying injuries. Ibrahim Badees LAHORE:-Hailing from Mushtarzai, the suburbs of Peshawar, rising star Mohammad Haris is eager to carve out his own identity in a world full of competition between the brightest talents. The 21-year-old wicketkeeper-batter is not oblivious to the challenges that entail the ascent to greatness and has overcome several hurdles to catapult to the limelight. Haris’ first two years at the Regional U19 level were forgettable, but he excelled the third time around to compel the Junior Selection Committee to induct him into Pakistan’s squad for the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2020 in South Africa.  Haris stood out as Pakistan’s most prolific batter in the tournament, racking up 131 runs in five matches at an average of 65.50. As a result, he earned a maiden call-up to Pakistan’s ODI side for the postponed home series against New Zealand in September 2021. He was then drafted into Peshawar Zalmi’s squad in the Supplementary category for HBL Pakistan Super League 2022, where he made giant strides. Haris was quick to make an impact with a brisk 49 against Karachi Kings and later slammed a scintillating 32-ball 70 against Islamabad United. He marked the latter innings in a unique fashion when he held aloft a band bearing #BeTheBest. Speaking to PCB Digital, Haris said: “I have always had confidence in my abilities and I credit the Peshawar Zalmi management for allowing me to enhance it. They supported me a lot and gave me freedom to express myself the way I want. ‘Be The Best’ is my message to everyone.” “I value fearlessness and consider it to be a central trait of my personality. This is what my parents have taught me. I believe that if you work hard, then you don’t have to be afraid of anything and you’ll achieve success.” Haris is also mindful of the requirements of modern-day cricket and believes in developing himself into a 360-degree player. Inspired by the likes of Jos Buttler and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa teammate Mohammad Rizwan, Haris is keen on establishing his batting credentials by adding an array of shots to his repertoire. “I have always wanted to become a 360-degree player and develop a range of shots so that I succeed at the highest level. International level is a different ball game compared to domestic cricket so I have to come across as unique and distinct. “I want to achieve a lot in the future, and with the help of Almighty I’ve been meeting my goals. I want to soon don national colours.” Haris has declared his willingness to bat at any position in the batting order and not restrict himself to the wicketkeeping role. This aspect has been reiterated by the Pakistan fielding coach Abdul Majeed, who lauded the youngster’s eagerness to conduct long and challenging fielding sessions. “Whatever task Haris is given as a keeper, a batter or a fielder, he has the ability to accomplish it with the utmost dedication. He frequently asks me to conduct the most demanding sessions in order to enhance his skillset as a fielder.” Mohammad Wasim Jnr, who has represented Pakistan in three ODIs and 11 T20Is, is also an admirer of Haris’ mindset and compared his self-assured orientation to that of high-profile players. “I’ve been playing with Haris since our U19 days in domestic cricket and the self-belief and confidence I've observed in him is similar to some of the top cricketers like Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Rizwan. Whatever Haris says he will do, he achieves that. Whether it is keeping, batting or fielding, he performs in every department.”

Sports Bulletin Report LAHORE:-Pakistan Cricket Board today announced Balochistan, Central Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Northern, Sindh and Southern Punjab squads for City Cricket Association U19 Tournament, which commences on 21 May. The sides have been selected through robust and merit-based open trials where the PCB have spent around PKR 10 million to ensure transparency in age-group cricket. The players born on or after 1 September 2003 and before 1 September 2007 were made eligible for selection in the tournament.  The players who performed well in the last CCA U19 tournament and fall into age bracket for this year’s edition have also been named in the side. The performers will also get a chance to get selected in the inaugural edition of Pakistan Junior League, the player draft for the league is expected to take place in August. The 49-year-old Kettleborough had fallen ill on the fourth morning and had to return to the dressing room immediately after officiating in the few overs. BIPIN DANI The Indian cricket board is in the "final negotiation stage" with the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) to have a bilateral series between the women's teams of both countries, it is learnt.  According to the highly placed sources in the BCCI, the two teams will play three ODIs' and three T-20Is in Sri Lanka in July this year. The SLC is planning to host all matches in Kandy. However, the venues are yet to be finalized. "Australia's two men's teams (national and "A") will be touring Sri Lanka and therefore depending upon the availability of the grounds, the women's teams will play matches there", one source said. Sri Lanka's women team captain Chamari Atapattu and her colleagues, who left for Pakistan on Thursday noon had to miss the Indian cricket board-organized My11 Circle Women’s T20 Challenge in India this month, however, now the likelihood of the matches in July has brightened the chances of the team to play against India.

Sports Bulletin Report LAHORE:-Chairman, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Ramiz Hasan Raja announced an increase of Rs. 100,000 across all three pension categories under the PCB Players’ Welfare Policy. The increase means cricketers who have played in 10 or less Tests will now receive a monthly pension of PKR142,000, players who have played between 11 and 20 Tests will receive PKR148,000 and players who have featured in 21 or more Tests will receive PKR154,000. In a major amendment to the policy, the PCB also announced the pension will be transferred to the widow in the unfortunate event of a Test cricketer’s demise. Previously, the legal heirs of the cricketer were only entitled to receive a onetime payment equivalent to 12 months’ benefit calculated according to the bracket under which the pension was being paid to the cricketer. The PCB Players’ Welfare Policy was last updated in January 2019. To ensure there were no future delays in the increase in the pension amounts, the PCB also confirmed there will be an annual inflation increase. PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja said: “It gives me immense pleasure and happiness to announce the increase in pension amounts and other amendments to the PCB Players’ Welfare Policy. With a former cricketer at the helm of Pakistan cricket affairs, the expectation was that I will always protect and look after the interests and welfare of all present and past cricketers. I am delighted that I have been able to fulfil another of my commitments and have amended the policy in such a way that there will now be an annual increase in the pension amounts. “While improving the pension amounts, we have also ensured security for a cricketer’s widow. As a former cricketer, I know and understand the sacrifices of the families, particularly the spouses that allow cricketers to fulfil their ambitions and dreams of representing their country at the highest level. I am confident this incremental increase of the pension policy will give a lot of peace and satisfaction to the cricketers as well as their families. “The PCB is an institution that has a proud history of respecting and appreciating its cricketers. These amendments to the PCB Players’ Welfare Policy are a testament to our commitment and on behalf of this organisation, I once again assure all retired cricketers that we will continue to support them in any way we can, be it through the PCB Players’ Welfare Policy or the PCB Benevolent Fund, which exists to support and help cricketers facing financial challenges and hardships.” The latest changes to the PCB Players’ Welfare Policy will come into effect from 1 July 2022 and cricketers who have reached the age of 60 and above, will be able to benefit.
