Federal Cup Tennis Championship: Eight players qualify for the main draw

ISLAMABAD: Abdullah Hanan Khan, Baqar Ali, Abdullah Adnan, Daisuke Unemi (Japan), Mohammad Azeem Khan, Jibran-ul-Haq, Major Suleman and Hasam Khan qualified for the main draw of men’s singles by winning their respective matches on the opening day of 35th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships 2022, at Syed Dilawar Abbas & Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) Tennis Complex Islamabad on Monday.
A total number of 40 matches were decided on the qualifying day. The main draw matches will be played on Tuesday. As many as 20 players were accepted directly into the main draw as per PTF National Ranking whereas 4 Wild Card and 8 qualifiers completed the draw of 32.
Top seed Aqeel Khan (WAPDA), Mohammad Shoaib, Mohammad Abid, Muzammil Murtaza, Yousaf Khalil, Mudassar Murtaza, Heera Ashiq and Barkatullah are already in the main draw, which will be rolled into action on Tuesday at the same venue.

Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships from December 5, 2022

ISLAMABAD (December 3, 2022): The 35th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships for Men and Women will be rolled into action from December 5 here at SDA-PTF Tennis Complex, Garden Avenue under the control of Islamabad Tennis Association (ITA).
According to an official ITA, the 35th edition of the Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships for men and women will start from December 5, 2022. Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Boys Under-18 and Boys & Girls Under-12 disciplines will be the part of top national events.
Top national tennis players including Aqeel Khan, Mohammad Shoaib, Mohammad Abid, Muzammil Murtaza, Yousaf Khalil, Mudassar Murtaza, Heera Ashiq and Barkatullah will fight for top honour during the 7-day tennis fixture.
Also, top national girls including Sarah Mahboob Khan, Noor Malik, Esha Jawad, Mehaq Khokhar and many more national players in Junior Under-18 events have confirmed their participation and would show their game skills in the championship.
The men’s singles qualifying draw of 64 was taken out in which 45 players from different parts of the country will be competing and 8 will qualify for the Main Draw of Men’s Singles. The qualifying matches will start on 5th December 2022 at 9:30 AM at PTF-SDA Tennis Complex, Garden Avenue, Islamabad.
Tariq Mehmood Murtaza, President ITA and Chairman of Rawalpindi Development Authority earlier chaired the Executive Committee meeting and approved the arrangements for holding the 35th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships in a befitting manner for the development and promotion of the game of tennis in the country.
Pakistan Open Tennis Championship: Muzammil and Sarah clinch titles

LAHORE: Muzammil Murtaza and Sarah Mehboob Khan have clinched the men’s and ladies singles titles of the 6th Sheheryar Malik Memorial Pakistan Open Tennis Championship 2022 that concluded here at Nishtar Park Tennis Courts on Saturday.
In the men's singles final, Muzammil Murtaza played well against M Shoaib and outpaced him by 6-4, 7-5 to clinch the title. The ladies singles final saw Sarah Mehboob Khan utilizing her wide experience to outsmart spirited Noor Malik (Wapda) 7-5, 6-2.
The boys’ Under-18 title was claimed by Bilal Asim, who outlasted Mahatir Muhammad 6-2, 7-5 in the final. Hamid Israr/Nael Qureshi won the U-18 doubles title by outpacing Sami Zeb Khan/Hasheesh Kumar 6-2, 6-4. The boys U-16 title was clinched by Sheheryar Anees, who defeated Asad Zaman 6-4, 6-4 in the final.
Abubakar Talha/Zohaib Afzal Malik - one of the top junior pairs of the country – added another feather in their decorated cap as they grabbed the U-14 doubles title by beating Amir Mazari/Nabeel Qayum 4-0, 4-5, 10-7. Abubakar doubled his crown by beating Amir Mazari 6-1, 1-0 (rtd) in the boys U-14 final.
In the boys’ Under-12 final, Abdur Rehman beat Ismail Aftab 4-2, 4-2 to lift the title. The boys/girls U-12 doubles title was claimed by Abubakar/Zunaisha, who beat Ismail Aftab/Abdur Rehman 4-2, 4-2 in the final. The boys/girls U-10 title was won by Shayan Afridi, who routed Hajra Suhail 4-1, 4-2.
In the seniors 35 plus doubles final, Shehzad/Inam Gul beat Talha Waheed/Tanveer Munir 6-1, 6-4 while in the seniors 45 plus doubles final, Sheheryar Salamat/Khurram Imtiaz beat Ashar/Adnan 5-7, 7-5, 10-8 and in seniors 65 plus doubles finals, Asad Niaz/Kh Khurram beat Waqar Nisar/Raheel.
Secretary Sports & Youth Affairs Ehsan Bhutta and PLTA Chairman Iftikhar Ahmad Rao graced the concluding ceremony as chief guest and distributed prizes among the winners of different age group categories in the presence of PLTA Secretary Rashid Malik, officials and tennis players, families and game lovers.
Rashid Malik thanked IPC Minister Ehsan ur Rehman Mazari, Punjab Sports Minister Malik Taimoor Masood, Secretary Sports Ehsan Bhutta, DG Sports Tariq Qureshi, PLTA Chairman Rao Iftikhar, entire SBP management and all others especially the managements of Metro Cash & Cash, TS Builders and Sheikhoo Steel for making this event a huge success.
Pakistan Open Tennis: Rashid Malik lifts seniors 50 plus title

LAHORE: Former Davis Cupper Rashid Malik (ZTBL) won the seniors 50 plus title in the 6th Sheheryar Malik Memorial Pakistan Open Tennis Championship here at Sports Board Punjab Tennis Academy Nishtar Park on Friday.
Rashid Malik was up against Hassan Mehmood in the seniors 50 plus singles final. Malik was off to a flying start as he conceded just two points to take the first set 6-2. Hassan though showed resistance in the second set yet Malik was too tough to be handled by Hassan, thus lost the second and decisive set 6-3 to clinch the title.
In the men's doubles final, Barkat Ullah/Mohaamad Shoaib beat Aqeel Khan/Mohammad Abid 6-4, 4-6, 10-8. Earlier in the doubles semifinals, Aqeel/Abid beat Muzammil Murtaza/Mudassar Murtaza 6-3, 6-3 and Barkat Ullah/Shoaib beat Heera Ashiq/Youaf Khalil 6-4, 6-4. In the ladies doubles semifinals, Sara Mehboob/Sara Mansoor outpaced Zahra Suleman/Zainab Ali Naqvi 6-1, 6-2 while Esha Jawad/Amna Qayyum beat Noor Malik/Meheq Khokhar 6-1, 4-6, 10-8.

LAHORE: Muzammil Murtaza upset longest serving Pakistan No. 1 Aqeel Khan in the 6th Sheheryar Malik Memorial Pakistan Open Tennis Championship 2022 men’s singles semifinal played here at the SBP Tennis Courts on Thursday.
In the first semifinal, Muzamil was off to a flying start against tennis ace of Pakistan – Aqeel Khan – as he conceded just a single point to comfortably win the first set 6-1. Aqeel though tried hard to put extra effort to resist the high-flying Muzammil, but his efforts went in vain as Muzammil won the second set too by 6-2 to set final clash against Muhammad Shoaib, who faced tough time from Barkat Ullah before winning the crucial match by 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
In the ladies’ singles first semifinal, Noor Malik (Wapda) showed her class against classy Meheq Khokhar and outlasted her by 6-4, 6-1. The second semifinal proved a one-sided affair, where ladies tennis champion Sarah Mehboob Khan taught a tennis lesson to young Sheeza Sajid and comfortably won the encounter by 6-0, 6-1 to set the title clash against Noor Malik.

LAHORE: The 6th Shehryar Malik Memorial Pakistan Open Tennis Championship 2022 formally commenced here at the Sports Board Punjab Tennis Academy, Nishtar Park on Monday.
Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Ehsan Bhutta graced the opening ceremony as chief guest and inaugurated the prestigious tournament during a colorful opening ceremony. The Secretary Sports was introduced with all the participating players, while he also witnessed a men’s singles match and applauded both the players for showcasing their skills during the match.

Pakistan Open Tennis Championship to start from November 19

Islamabad: Sheheryar Malik Memorial (SMM) Pakistan Open Tennis Championship 2022 will commence from November 19, 2022 at Sports Board Punjab Tennis Academy Nishtar Park Lahore.
According to Tournament Director, Rasheed Malik, in the 8-day tennis fixture the top national players from all over the Pakistan will take part to fight for the top honour. Tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq inks MoU with Sports Board Punjab

LAHORE: Director General Sports Punjab Mohammad Tariq Qureshi and Pakistan’s international tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the promotion of tennis among the young generation during a press conference at National Hockey Stadium on Wednesday.
As per MoU, Aisam-ul-Haq along with Pakistan No 1 Aqeel Khan and other top tennis players will impart modern training to six players of Sports Board Punjab along with 16 players of Aisam’s Ace Academy for one year.
Director General SBP Mohammad Tariq said:
“Sports Board Punjab is going to initiate a partnership with Pakistan’s tennis stalwart Aisam-ul-Haq for nurturing teenage tennis players from across the province. It is the right time to make collective efforts for the growth of tennis across the province. Under the MoU, we will focus on the training of Under-14, Under-16 and Under-18 players at our State of the Art tennis courts adjacent to Punjab Tennis Stadium. Aisam-ul-Haq along with Pakistan No 1 Aqeel Khan and other top tennis players will impart modern training to young camp probables”.
Aisam-ul-Haq further said:
“This MoU is signed for one year for the first time in the history of the country and hopefully this collaboration will continue in future as well. “The duration of MoU reflected the seriousness of Sports Board Punjab for the promotion of tennis in all parts of the province. Sports Board Punjab built according to international standards and are equipped with all modern facilities. I will not take any remuneration for coaching the young players. Being Pakistan's number one player, it is my obligation to develop new players. I want to give the facilities that I and Aqeel Khan did not get during our initial stages to the young generation”.
