BB Tennis Championship: Ushna and Sarah claim victories

ISLAMABAD (December 15, 2021):-Top national tennis girls, Ushna Suhail and Sarah Mahboob claimed trouble-free victories in the Ladies Singles fixture of the ongoing Benazir Bhutto (BB) Shaheed National Tennis Championship 2021 after toying Seyda Eraj 2-0 and Kainat Ali 2-0 respectively at Islamabad Tennis Complex G-6 Islamabad on Wednesday. Ushna did not concede a solitary game in two sets while Sarah conceded one game in the first set.
Also, Asifa Shahbaz, Meheq Khokhar and Sheeza Sajid defeated their respective challengers in staright sets 2-0 to Mariam Mirza, Oreen Jasia and Sheeza Sajid respectively in the Ladies’ Single event of the prestigious national tennis showpiece.
Today, more than 50 matches were played at the clay courts of Islamabad Tennis Complex including Men’s singles, Ladies singles, Ladies Doubles, Boys Under-14, Boys and Girls Under-12 and Under-10 events.

Benazir Bhutto Shaheed National Tennis Championships start at ITC

ISLAMABAD (December 13, 2021):-The Benazir Bhutto Shaheed National Tennis Championships started at Islamabad Tennis Complex (ITC) G-6 Islamabad on Monday with qualifying round matches.
Men singles, Boys Under-18 singles and boys Under-12 qualifying rounds were played. The championship was inaugurated with Quran Khawani, Senator Taj Haider was also present on this occasion. Adel Borghei the ITF Certified International Official will be supervising the championships while Shahzad Alvi the ITF White Badge Official will be the Tournament Referee.

J7 Federal Cup: Mohammad Shoaib stuns top seed Aqeel Khan in final

Islamabad (December 11, 2021):-The 3rd Seed Mohammad Shoaib toppled top seed Aqeel Khan 2-1 in the Men’s Singles final of the J7 Group – 34th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championship at SDA-PTF Tennis Complex on Saturday. The final score-line was 6-4, 3-6 and 6-3 after two hour long contest.
Mohammad Shoaib from Pakistan Air Force (PAF) claimed this historical feat against top national guy after a thrilling match. Shoaib fine start after taking a 3-0 lead but experienced Aqeel fought back to level the set 3-3. However, Shoaib regained control and took the set 6-4 after hitting impressive strokes.
Meanwhile, in the second set, after a few closely fought games, Aqeel took complete control of the game and won 6-3. The deciding set saw some exhilarating tennis with Shoaib taking the set 6-3, despite the best efforts and fighting spirit of Aqeel. Shoaib won the title match 2-1 at 6-3, 3-6 and 6-4.
Earlier in the day, the Ladies Singles Sarah Mahboob beat Ushna Sohail in a 3-set thriller that lasted 3 hours. Although expectation were that the encounter would be closely fought out, however, Sarah had chalked out her own game plan which worked with preciseness and exactitude and all through the 3 sets Sarah surfaced in a imperious and forceful way leaving her opponent astounded.
Ushna played some calculated tennis in the first set to go up 5-2, but Sarah fought back to win the set 7-5.in the second set, Ushna again led 3-0 and 5-3, but Sarah came to make it 5-5. However, Ushna regained her composure to take the set 7-5. The third set went down to the wire, with Sarah holding her nerve to take the match and the championships.

The final score-line was 5-7, 6-2 and 10-6.

ISLAMABAD (December 10, 2021):-Top seed Aqeel Khan and 3rd Seed Mohammad Shoaib set to meet in the Men's Singles final of J7 Group – 34th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships, after winning their respective semifinals against Yousaf Khalil 2-0 and Mohammad Abid 2-1 at PTF-SDA Tennis Complex, Islamabad on Friday. The final will be played on Saturday at same venue.
In the first semi final, top seed Aqeel Khan was in fine touch and prevailed over Yousaf Khalil and built up the winning lead 4-0 by breaking 7th and 4th game of Yousaf by hitting a number of winners down the line. He won the first set at 6-2. In the second set, he kept the same pressure and won set at score of 6-3 by breaking 6th and 9th game of Yousaf and took the revenge of the Lahore defeat.
In the second semi final, 20 years old Mohammad Shoaib toppled the 2nd seed Mohammad Abid by playing high caliber and remarkable tennis. His forehand and back hand ground strokes were perfect in rhythm and he was flawless from the net out played 2nd seed Mohammad Abid in a thrilling and entertaining three set match. Mohammad Abid won the first set at 6-3 by breaking 8th game of Shoaib. Whereas Mohammad Shaib bounced back and won the second set in the same trend at 6-3. In the final set, Shaoib was very steady from the base line and long rallies were witnessed during the final set which was at 6-2 by breaking 3rd and 7th game of Abid and caused the major upset of the tournament. The match lasted 2 hours.
In the Ladies singles final, top seed Sarah Mahboob and 2nd Seed Ushna Sohail moved into final with imposing victories over their opponents. Sarah beat Esha Jawad 6-0 and 6-2 while Ushna defeated Noor Malik 6-2 and 6-2.
Maqbool Hussain Chairman J7 Group witnessed the Men's Doubles final and earlier met the participating players and officials, appreciated the organization and they ensued their group will support the healthy activity for the development of tennis in the youth and country. ISLAMABAD (December 9, 2021):-Besides top seed Aqeel Khan, Yousaf Khalil, Mohammad Shaoib and Mohammad Abid moved into the semifinals of the ongoing J7 – 34th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships 2021 after beating their respective challengers at PTF-SDA Tennis Complex, Islamabad on Thursday.
The 6th Seed Yousaf Khalil, the upcoming proficient caused a major upset during the course of his quarter final encounter with 4th Seed Heera Ashiq. In his pursuit of victory he added his foot speed and top spin makes him a force to be reckoned with. Yousaf certainly toned down and dispirited his accomplished adversary by upping the velocity of this serves, rallying with self assurance and showing no hesitation in rushing the net frequently. Yousaf Khalil managed to oust the 4th seed with the score-line of 6-4, 6-7(3) and 6-3.
In another Men’s Singles quarter final, Mohammad Shoaib toppled Mudassar Murtaza in a thrilling match of the day 2-0 with the final score-line of 6-3, 3-6 and 6-2. Shoaib served and returned well easing his way to move into the semi final stage. The semi finals will be batted out between Aqeel Khan and Yousaf Khalil and Mohammad Abid and Mohammad Shoaib on Friday 10th December 2021 at same venue.
The top seed Aqeel Khan faced resistance from 8th Seed Barkatullah. In the opening set, Aqeel served and retuned well to finish the set at 6-4 but in the 2nd set found his young adversary impeccable and had to concede the set 7-6(8). The final set was marked with aces and long rallies and the score went up to 4-4 all as both players held their respective serves, Aqeel broke the ninth game of the final set by hitting some winners down the line forced out Barkatullah in 6-4.
In the Ladies event Sarah Mahboob, Ushna Sohail, Esha Jawad and Noor Malik moved into the Semi finals by winning their respective matches. The best encounter in the ladies event played between Esha Jawad and Sheeza Sajid, Both the players showed quality tennis and long rallies were witnessed. Esha Jawad after losing the first set at 3-6, won the next two in a well contested match at 7-6(2) 6-4. The match lasted 2 hours 10 minutes.
The semi final matches will be played on Friday 10th December 2021 at 10:00 AM and Doubles Final of Men’s and Ladies at 2:45 PM at the PTF-SDA Tennis Complex courts, Islamabad. Maqbool Hussain Chairman J7 Group will be the chief guest on the Doubles Final.

Benazir Bhutto Tennis Championship from December 13, 2021

ISLAMABAD (December 8, 2021):-Over 200 male and female players will participate in the 7th Benazir Bhutto Shaheed National Tennis Championship 2021, which will start from December 13 here at the Islamabad Tennis Complex (ITC) under the banner of Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF), Senator Taj Haider along with Senator Farhatullah Babar, Senator Palwasha Khan, Syed Sibt Haider Bukhari and Fazal Subhan told journalists of twin cities Rawalpindi and Islamabad in a press briefing at the championship venue.
Senator Taj Haider further said that the top ranking national players would be in action during the 6-day prestigious national tennis showpiece. “The final will be played on December 18 at ITC Clay courts and top leadership of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) will grace the occasion as chief guest to distribute the prizes among the players. One million rupees prize money will be disbursed among the national players, “he added.
Responding to a question, he said, “We will try to organize the next edition of the Benazir Bhutto Shaheed National Tennis Championship at international level and at least South Asian countries will be invited for this annual tennis fixture. The event will have 10 different categories including Men's Singles, Ladies Singles, Boys Under-18, Girls Under-18, Boys Under-14, Boys and Girls Under-12, Boys and Girls Under-12, Under-10 Veterans +45 years and Veterans over + 60, “he further divulged.
“Due to Corona, the participation of foreign players stopped. It is a nice omen for tennis to organize three international events back-to-back in capital city Islamabad. Sindh government is funding for this event and they approved funds of Rs. 4 million for Benazir Bhutto Shaheed National Tennis Championship and it will be staged in benefitted manners. We will also help to train the budding players and a camp will be established very soon, “he said while adding that the tournament would be supervised by International Referee Adil from Iran and Shahzad Akhtar Alvi would assist him.
“Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Tennis Academy was set up four months ago in which 11 ball pickers were training. Tennis competitions would also be organized in remote areas to make poor and middle class children a part of this sport, “he concluded.
