Karachi Open Squash Championship: Shahjahan Khan thrashes Tayyab Aslam 3-2

ISLAMABAD:-US lad, Shahjahan Khan got rid of Pakistan number one squash player Tayyab Aslam 3-2 in a well-contested five game thriller in the Karachi Open Squash Championship 2022 at Creek Club Squash Courts Karachi on Wednesday. The final score-line was 12-10, 7-11, 12-10, 8-11 and 11-5, as the match wasted 66 minutes.
Championship has reached in the quarterfinal stage, as all foreigner players have confirmed their berth in the top-eight stage of the top international squash showpiece, as the men’s event is pursuing prize money of US$ 50, 000. Besides Tayyab Aslam, Asim Khan and Mohammad Ashab Irfan succumbed under the pressure of high ranking overseas players. Now, rest of championship will be without any Pakistani player.

Karachi Open Squash Championship: Asim Khan and Mohammad Ashab clinch upset triumphs

ISLAMABAD:-Pakistan’s top squash player, Tayyab Aslam, Asim Khan and Mohammad Ashab Irfan Khan have won their matches in the Karachi Open Squash Championship 2022 at Roshan Khan & Jehangir Khan Squash Complex Karachi on Tuesday.
World No 60 guy, Asim Khan came from behind and overpowered World No. 42 3-2 after going down 0-2 and 8-10 at the one stage of the third game that he finished 12-10 and bounced back in the match. He kept the same pressure in the next two games and win in similar style 11-8 and 11-8, as the match wasted 62 minutes. The final score-line was 9-11, 6-11, 12-10, 11-8 and 11-8.
World No. 221 Mohammad Ashab Irfan, who got the entry with wild card, toppled high ranked World No. 48 Spanish lad Bernat Jaume 3-1 with the score-line of 8-11, 11-9, 13-11, 11-7. Pakistan top national & World No. 52 Tayyab Aslam overcame his opponent Yahya Elnawasany World No. 55 3-1 to move next round of prestigious squash fixture of the world. The final score-line was 10-12, 11-9, 11-9 13-11.

Private sector plays vital role in the revival of squash in country: Jahangir Khan

KARACHI:-Pakistan squash legend former World number one Jahangir Khan has said that the efforts made by private sector for revival of squash in Pakistan were laudable as collective efforts could help the country to regain the lost glories in squash at international level.
He expressed these views during a visit to PSF Jahangir Khan Squash Complex at National coaching Centre along with Combaxx Sports CEO Omar Saeed, and Sindh Squash Association President Adnan Asad. Director General PSF Squash Complex Commander (Retd) Mustafa Kamal, Karachi Sports Foundation Chairman Asif Azim, Combaxx Sports GM Zubair Macha and Administrator Squash Complex Mohammad Aamir also accompanied them.
Jahangir Khan said: “We can once again produce world level players by providing up-to-date training in state-of-the-art squash courts to young guys at grass-root level so they can be at par with international players. The construction work is being done in collaboration with American Business Council, and there are four squash courts in the complex, two of which are being laced with back-wall glass shields:, he said, further adding: Qualified coaches provide free training to players at this Complex which is purely aimed at promoting squash talent at grass-root level. The talented squash players who are be selected for training purely on merit basis will also to be given free education, food & nutrition and traveling expenses inside the country to enable them to pay equal attention to education and also pay full concentration on sports”.
Combaxx Sports CEO Omar Saeed said:
Pakistan was dominating in squash like no other country in the world, the domination lasting for the best part of as many as six decades. And for regaining lost glory in squash, Combaxx sports is making all out efforts to extend its full support to PSF and the provincial associations to produce unbeatable players in squash once again, who will international laurels for the country. He said that Combaxx Sports will provide free track suits and kits to players and trainers at this Squash Academy.
Sindh Squash Association President Adnan Asad said:
Cameras are also installed in the squash courts here so that in-camera training will enable the coach to secure images of the players during training to be showed to them later on to pin-point their weakness and drawbacks and to teach them how to rectify the same. ”A gymnasium and one more squash court is also a part of future strategy,” he added. He further added that they would make it a model academy in the country for the production of new talented squash players.
Farhan Mehboob lifts the title of PSF-International Circuit-1 Squash Tournament

ISLAMABAD:-World number 240, Farhan Mehboob toppled world number 220 Hamza Khan 3-2 in the final to win the title of the PSF-International Squash Circuit Tournament at Mushaf Squash Complex, Islamabad on Tuesday. The final score-line was 11-6, 11-6, 2-11, 1-11 and 11-6.
Left-arm squash player, who already defeated the high ranking players in the quarterfinal and semifinal, kept his stylish and attaching game in the final. He won the first two games quit comfortably at 11-6 and 11-6 to make the game score-2-0, as his powerful forehands and backhands drives with classic nicks and drop shorts.
Hamza won third and fourth game without any resistance and conceded merely 2 and 1 points respectively and squared the championship contest 2-2. At this stage, it was expected that Hamza would win the last game easily to become the champion but Farhan scattered the dream of his challengers and displayed excellent skill of the game and finished the game at 11-6. The final match finished with 11-6, 11-6, 2-11, 1-11 and 11-6 score.
Air Marshal Aamir Masood, Senior Vice President Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) graced the ceremony as chief guest and awarded trophies and prize money to the finalists. International referee Fahim Gul supervised the vital match, as Azhar Gul was his assistant during the final.
While talking to www.sports-bulletin.com Farhan Mehoob said in his post-match comments that he was happy to win this title. “It is my comeback in the international circuit. I improved my fitness level and beat high ranked players and they all were playing squash regularly and super fit I entered in the court after a long break. I will toil hard to improve my international ranking, “he added.
Karachi Open Squash Championship 2022: Karim Abdel Gawad Top Seed Player

ISLAMABAD:- Karim Abdel Gawad from Egypt will be top seed player of the Karachi Open Squash Championship, which will be commenced from March 15, 2022 at Roshan Khan, Jehangir Khan Squash Complex Karachi. Enora Villard from France will be top seed female player for the Women’s Singles fixture.
It is pertinent to mention here that men’s event has prize money of $50000 while women’s 20000. The final of the prestigious international squash fixture will be played on March 19 at the same venue.
Former World Champion Gawad leads the men’s draw and will be looking to claim his first title since 2019. The Egyptian will face the winner of home favourite Asim Khan and England’s Declan James in his first match of the tournament as he receives a bye in round one.
World No.16 Youssef Soliman from Egypt is the number two seed. Soliman, a recent quarter finalist at the Houston Open, will open his account against the winner of Spain’s Bernat Jaume and event wildcard Mohammad Ashab Irfan from Pakistan.
Pakistan’s best chance of a home winner comes in the form of World No.44 Tayyab Aslam. The nation’s No.1 will face Egyptian Yahya Elnawasany in his first-round match. The pair last met at the Egyptian Open in September, with the Egyptian winning 3-1 in 38 minutes to level the head-to-head record at 1-1.
France’s Enora Villard is number one seed for the female event. The French No.4 recently lost out to Georgina Kennedy from England in the last 16 of the Cleveland Classic and will be looking to improve on that performance in Karachi. Villard will play either Pakistan’s Zaynab Khan or New Zealand’s Kaitlyn Watts in her opening match of the event.
England’s Lucy Beecroft is one to watch in the event. The World No.62 won two events in 2021 and will be determined to add to that tally in 2022. Beecroft receives a bye in round one but will face either wildcard Anam Mustafa Aziz or Serbia’s Jelena Dutina in round two.
No.3 seed Marie Stephan is entering the Challenger 20 event full of confidence as the 25-year-old recently captured her first French Nationals title, beating Enora Villard in the final. Stephan will play Pakistan’s Amna Fayyaz or Malaysia’s Yee Xin Ying for a place in the quarter finals.

PSF-International Squash: Farhan and Hamza set to meet in final

ISLAMABAD:-Farhan Mehbbob and Hamza Khan reached in the final of PSF-International Squash Circuit-1 Tournament after beating their respective opponents in straight games at Mushaf Squash Complex, Islamabad on Monday. Final will be played on Tuesday at the same venue.
In the 1st Semifinal, World No 240 Farhan Mehboob outclassed his younger brother World No 157 Waqas Mehboob 3-0 with the score-line of 11-5, 11-9 and 11-9, as the match wasted 24 minutes. Farhan Mehboob top quality squash and was looking in nice shape, as he proved his fitness too.
Later on, in the 2nd Semi Final, World No 220 Hamza Khan toppled World No 116 Farhan Zaman in similar style 3-0. The final score-line was 11-7, 11-6 and 11-7 after wasting just 22 minutes in the court.
International Squash: Farhan, Waqas, Hamza and Farhan Zaman qualify for semifinals

ISLAMABAD:-Farhan Mehboob, Waqas Mehboob, Hamza Shraif and Farhan Zaman have moved into the semifinals of the ongoing PSF-International Squash Circuit-1 Tournament at Mushaf Squash Complex, Islamabad on Sunday.
The both semifinals will be played on Monday (February 28) at the same venue. In the 1st semifinal Farhan Mehboob will play against his younger brother Waqas Mehboob while in the 2nd semifinal Hamza Khan will meet Farhan Zaman.

In the 1st Quarter Final, World No 240 Farhan Mehboob beat World No 203 Mohammad Farhan Hashmi by 11-5, 8-11, 11-4 and 11-9 in 29 Minutes.

SQUASH: Farhan overpowers top seed Israr 3-2 in PSF International Tournament

ISLAMABAD:-Farhan Mehboob outclassed top seed and world number 90 squash player Israr Ahmad 3-2 to record an upset victory on the opening day of the PSF-International Squash Circuit-1 Tournament at Mushaf Squash Complex, Islamabad on Saturday.
Tournament is pursing prize money of US$ 6000 and final will be played on March 1, 2022 at the same venue. A group of 16 Pakistani players are participating in the national fixture for top honour.

FIFTEEN COUNTRIES TO PARTICIPATE IN THE WSF WORLD DOUBLES SQUASH CHAMPIONSHIP

Glasgow (SCOTLAND):-As many as 15 countries will take part in the WSF World Doubles Squash Championship, scheduled to be held from April 5 to 9 this year 2022 in Glasgow, Scotland.
The championship will feature three events including men’s, women’s and mixed with all of the action taking place at Glasgow Life’s Scotstoun Leisure Centre under the banner of Scottish Squash.
Hosts Scotland will look to recapture the form which saw them win the men’s event in 2016, and they will be joined by Australia, who dominated the 2019 WSF World Doubles on home soil with wins in all three events in Carrara and are the most successful nation ever at the championships.
New Zealand, who have won six events, and England, who won the inaugural men’s event in 1997, will also travel to Glasgow to battle for the prestigious titles. The entry list also includes Hong Kong and India, who hosted the 1997 and 2004 events, respectively.
David McDonald, Depute Leader of Glasgow City Council said:
“We’re delighted to host this fantastic event in our city, and there is no better-suited venue in the country than Scotstoun Leisure Centre. Glasgow is dedicated to attracting world-class events and hosting this event for the first time is yet further recognition of our international status as an international sporting city.
“It’s exciting to see such a wide-ranging list of countries have entered the competition, and we can’t wait to welcome the players, teams and fans to Glasgow.”

PSF LEVEL-1 STRENTTH & CONDITIONING COURSE CONCLUDES

ISLAMABAD:-PSF Level-1 Strength and Conditioning Course concluded on Friday at Mushaf Squash Complex, Islamabad that was held from February 1 to 4, 2022 under the control of Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF).
According to an official of PSF, as many as 14 males and females participated in the 4-day course from all over the country. Zohra Abdullah topped the said course. The 4-days course was very successfully conducted by internationally qualified officials Mohammad Boota and Mohammad Kashif.
Also, Dr Shabina and Dr Qurat Ul Ain from Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) delivered lectures on Doping and Sports Psychology. In the closing ceremony certificates were awarded to all participants. The participants were keen to learn during the course.
