Quaid-e-Azam Open Gold Cup: DS Polo / Rizvi qualify for subsidiary final

LAHORE:-DS Polo/Rizvi's qualified for the subsidiary final of Tower 21 Quaid-e-Azam Open Gold Cup 2022 after winning the match played under American system among three teams here at the Lahore Polo Club ground on Saturday.
Now DS Polo/Rizvi's will take on FG Polo Team in the subsidiary final at 2:00 pm while Newage Cables/Master Paints will compete against HN Polo in the main final at 3:00 pm here at historic Aibak polo ground of Lahore Polo Club.
The match, which was postponed due to rain and wet outfield on Thursday, was played on Saturday among DS Polo/Rizvi's, Barry's and Rough Riders Polo Team under American. Every match among these three teams was of two-chukker each and DS Polo/Rizvi's managed to win both of their matches. They first defeated Rough Riders Polo Team and then beat Barry's to book berth in the subsidiary final.
In their first match, DS Polo/Rizvi's outpaced Rough Riders Polo Team by 5-1. Max Charlton emerged as hero of the day for DS Polo/Rizvi's with a contribution of fabulous four goals while Syed Aun Muhammad Rizvi struck one. From the Rough Riders, the only goal was converted by Julio Novillo Astrada.
In the another match of the day, DS Polo/Rizvi's faced tough resistance from Barry's before winning the crucial encounter by a close margin of 4-3. This time, highly talented and shinning star Syed Aun Muhammad Rizvi banged in a brace and Max Charlton also thrashed in two goals. For team Barry's, Rulo Trotz pumped in two goals and Hamza Mawaz Khan scored one goal.
In the last match of the day played between Barry's and Rough Riders Polo Team, Barry's emerged winners by 3-1. The major contribution from team Barry's came from their star players Rulo Trotz and Hamza Mawaz Khan, who converted two and one goal respectively while the only goal from Rough Riders came from Julio Novillo Astrada.
On Sunday, the main final will be played between Newage Cables/Master Paints and HN Polo at 3:00 here at the Lahore Polo Club ground and will be witnessed by Tower 21 CEO Hamza Raza Malik, Lahore Polo Club President Umer Sadik, Secretary General Agha Murtaza Ali Khan, executive committee members, players and their families and polo enthusiasts.

Blinds Cricket: Pakistan beat South Africa by 10 wickets in T20

LAHORE:- Pakistan beat South Africa by 10 wickets in the opening match of the 1st match of T-20 series at Lahore Gymkhana Cricket Ground, Bagh-e-Jinnah, Lahore on Saturday.
Pakistan Blind Cricket Team won the toss and decided to bowl first. South Africa scored 183 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Fredrik with 54 runs was the top scorer from South Africa. Moain, Badar and Sana Ullah took a wicket apiece.
In reply, Pakistan chased down the target of 184 runs in 11.4 overs without any loss. Maoin Aslam was the star with the bat; he made 99* runs off 43 balls while Muhammad Rashid scored 71* runs off 27 balls.

Aisam and Aqeel gift honour to Pakistan beat Lithuania 3-2 in Davis Cup Tie

ISLAMABAD:-An outstanding performance by Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Aqeel Khan helped Pakistan to overpower Lithuania 3-2 in the Davis Cup Tennis Tie World Group-1 at the gross courts of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) in the premises of Pakistan Sports Complex on Saturday.
Tie was leveled on Friday 1-1, as it was important day for the both teams. Aisam and Aqeel took the Pakistan ahead at 2-1 after winning crucial Doubles fixture 2-1, as lot of ups and down came during the over two hours match. At one stage, in the second set, Green Shirts were down at 4-5 and need to must break the opponents serve.

Shane Warne's body to be brought from Thailand Funeral in his home-country

Shane Warne's funeral will take place in Melbourne, Australia, according to his manager James Ereskine.
The 52-year-old legendary spinner passed (suspected due to the heart-attack) away in Thailand.
Speaking from Sydney, the manager informs : "Warne along with his four friends went to Thailand (from Melbourne) on Wednesday. He was not on any cricketing assignments but on a holiday. One among the four is there is our office staff".
"The dead-body will be brought to Australia for his final rites. It may take a few more days as the High Commissioner's office is also involved in the process".
With Warne's exit, Muthiah Muralitharan has lost his cricket-partner.
"It (the age of 52) is not the age for any cricketer to leave", Muthiah Muralitharan, speaking exclusively to this reporter, said over the telephone.
"It is very shocking news and very hard to digest. We can't believe it. He was a legendary cricketer. We both played in the same era. The world of cricket fraternity will miss him. It is a big loss to the game. All his fans will miss him", Murali added.
Warne was the second highest Test wicket taker (708) after Murali's 800.
The series between Sri Lanka and Australia is played for the Warne-Muralitharan trophy.
"It is a very black day in international cricket when two great players-Rod Marsh and Warne passed away on the same day.
It will not be surprising if the players of both teams or at least the Sri Lanka's wear a black armband on the second day of the ongoing Mohali Test on Saturday.

Davis Cup Tennis Tie: Aqeel overcomes Laurynas 2-1 in the opening Single

ISLAMABAD:-Pakistan number one Aqeel Khan overcame Laurynas Grigelis 2-1 in the opening fixture of the Davis Cup Tennis Tie World Group-1 play-off at the at the gross court of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) in the premises of Pakistan Sports Complex on Friday. Mohammad Shaoib lost to Ricardas Berankis 1-2 after a well contested three set competition.
In the first match of the day, Aqeel Khan defeated Laurynas of Lithuania 2-1 after fighting 1 hour and 47 minutes in the court. Aqeel won the first set on tiebreak, as both players held their serves. Aqeel lost the second set at 3-6, hwoever, he fought back excellently and won the third and final set at 6-3. The match wasted one hour and 47 minutes.
Later, in the second single, Mohammad Shoaib displayed excellent skill of the game but could not finish in the favour of Pakistan. His opponent guy did well in the second set to bounce back in the match. Davis Cup Tennis Tie leveled at 1-1.

Defending champion & ranking no. 1 Mahoor Shahzad (Wapda), Alja Tariq (Balochistan), Palwasha Bashir (Sindh) and Ghazala Siddique (Wapda) qualified for the semi finals of the women singles event.
