Sports Desk ISLAMABAD (February 11, 2020):-After a thrilling three weeks of competition, Bangladesh claimed their first ICC U19 Cricket World Cup title with victory over reigning champions India in the final in Potchefstroom. The official team of the tournament features representatives from six sides and is skippered by Bangladesh captain Akbar Ali, with the likes of Ibrahim Zadran, Nyeem Young and Player of the Tournament Yashasvi Jaiswal all included. With 400 runs to his name in just six innings at an astounding average of 133, he topped the scoring chart comfortably, with an incredible 114 more than closest competitor Ravindu Rasantha. Ibrahim Zadran (Afghanistan) The side’s other opening spot goes to reliable Afghanistan batsman Ibrahim Zadran. He notched 240 runs in five innings at an average of 60 to help his country to a seventh-place finish, knocking 73 not out in the playoff against hosts South Africa to cap off their tournament in style. Ravindu Rasantha (Sri Lanka) The man who was closest to keeping on the coattails of Jaiswal in the scoring charts, Ravindu Rasantha’s total of 286 runs from six innings would likely have topped the table in most other circumstances. A swashbuckling 102 not out off just 111 balls proved the highlight of his competition as Sri Lanka downed Nigeria in the Plate quarterfinals. Mahmudul Hasan Joy (Bangladesh) The first representative from the winning side, Mahmudal Hasan Joy scored 184 runs at an average of 46 to prove a crucial linchpin in the Tigers’ line-up. But it was one innings in particular that sealed his place in this side, as a clutch century in Bangladesh’s Super League semi-final triumph over New Zealand helped to pave the way to glory. Shahadat Hossain (Bangladesh) Joy’s teammate Shahadat Hossain boasted a tournament-ending average to rival only Jaiswal’s. With three not-outs in his six innings, his 131 runs averaged out at a staggering 131. Nyeem Young (West Indies) An impressive fifth-place finish for the West Indies represented a solid return in South Africa, and Nyeem Young the side seem to have unearthed a future star all-rounder. He underlined his credentials straight from the off, making 61 with the bat to top-score in his side’s group-stage opener against Australia, before taking five for 45 to beat England next time out – becoming the first West Indian to take a five-for and make a half-century in an U19 match. Akbar Ali (Bangladesh) The side’s captain led his nation to a maiden title, much to the joys of their travelling support in Potchefstroom. He skippered with aplomb from behind the stumps throughout, showing deftness with the gloves to dismiss six batsmen throughout the tournament. Shafiqullah Ghafari (Afghanistan) Sixteen wickets for the tournament left Shafiqullah Ghafari trailing just one man in the charts – more on which shortly. But the devastating spinner will take home best-figures honours, with his six for 15 against South Africa the deadliest spell in tournament history for Afghanistan. Ravi Bishnoi (India) The man to top the wicket-taking charts was Indian spinner Ravi Bishnoi, whose 17 in six matches left him with a miserly average of 10.64. And even though his side could not make it two titles in a row, Bishnoi almost dragged them to victory over Bangladesh in the final with an impressive four for 30. Kartik Tyagi (India) The first of the quicks in the line-up, Kartik Tyagi’s swing terrorised opposing batsmen throughout the tournament. He took 11 wickets at an average of 13.90 to augment what was a deadly bowling attack for India. Jayden Seales (West Indies) West Indian quick Jayden Seales truly staked his claim as one of the side's best up-and-coming fast bowlers as he looks to join a prestigious tradition. The 18-year-old claimed 10 wickets at an average of 18.30, with a spell of four for 19 a highlight against Australia as the West Indies triumphed in the groups. Akil Kumar (Canada) Akhil Kumar was the shining light in Canada’s campaign, as they sealed a 13th-place finish. The quick took 16 wickets at an average of 15.37, finishing with figures of six for 46 in Plate playoff victory over Japan.

Sports Desk ISLAMABAD (February 11, 2020):-Front foot no ball technology will be used in a major tournament for the first time at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia later this month. The decision to use this system was made after successful trials conducted recently in both India and the West Indies. India-West Indies The third umpire will monitor the front foot landing position after each ball and communicate to the on-field umpire if the delivery was a no ball. The on-field umpires have been instructed not to call any front foot no balls unless advised to do so by the third umpire, although they will be responsible for calling all other types of no ball on the field. The technology was recently trialed across 12 games, during which 4717 balls were bowled and 13 no balls (0.28% of deliveries) were called. All deliveries were judged accurately. Geoff Allardice, ICC General Manager Cricket said: “Cricket has an excellent track record of introducing technology to support the decision making of our match officials and I’m confident that this technology will reduce the small number of front foot no ball errors at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.” “No balls are difficult for umpires to call accurately, and even though the percentage of deliveries that are no balls is low, it is important to call them correctly. Since we first trialed this concept in the ODI series between England and Pakistan in 2016 the technology has improved significantly, enabling us to introduce it cost-effectively, and with minimum impact on the flow of the game.”

SB News KARACHI (February 11, 2020):-Balochistan and Islamabad defeated their opponent teams in the 3rd PPL (One-day) Blind Cricket Super League 2020 in Karachi on Tuesday. Day-2 Match No 1: KPK Vs Balochistan: (Venue: Rashid Latif Cricket Academy, Karachi) In the morning, Balochistan won the toss and decided to bowl first. KPK got off to the flying start, its first wicket fell in the shape of Matiullah at the score of 117 runs in 12th over, Matiuallh scored 47 runs. Tahir Ali 85 off 59 balls, Riasat Khan’s 62 off 38 balls and Muhammad Akram’s 49 runs off 28 balls kept accelerating the run rate and remained more than 10 runs per over till 28th over of the innings. After their departure, Balochistan squeezed KPK run rate and restricted them to 371 runs all out in 39.3 overs. Badar Munir took 3 wickets for 80 runs in 8 overs and Shafiullah was bit more expensive, he took 2 wickets by giving away 102 runs in 8 overs. Balochistan Captain, Badar Munir opened the innings with Akmal Hayat. Akmal couldn’t excel and was bowled by Muhammad Ijaz after scoring 8 runs. Sajid Nawaz was dismissed after scoring 20 runs. But Badar played splendidly and his 63 balls 121 runs innings, featuring 19 (4’s) and 1 six took the score of his team to 218 runs in 19.3 overs. Thereafter, Safiuallah’s 104 runs innings and Ayub Khan’s watchful 42 runs not out enabled his team to cross the line with 32 balls to spare. Punjab team couldn’t accelerate the innings, Iftikhar Tiger 22, Fakhar Abbas 0 and Naseeb Ullah’s 42 balls 32 runs innings didn’t provide the boost. Moeen Aslam stood tall from one end, he made 130 runs off 90 balls and Mohsin Khan 45 runs off 32 balls helped Punjab to score 347 runs all out in 39.4 overs. Muhammad Safdar was the star for Islamabad, he took 4 wickets by conceding only 37 runs. Islamabad chased the target in 34.3 overs for the loss of 6 wickets. Muhammad Rashid who was dismissed cheaply the other day, made his presence felt with scintillating 120 runs innings off 60 balls featuring 16 fours and 2 sixes. Mohammad Ayyaz and Safdar supported him well with 38 and 34 runs respectively. After months of backroom discussions and deliberations for the crucial process of team selection – Player Draft in December and Replacement Draft last week – the six owners take a look at their line-ups for the upcoming season. SB News ISLAMABAD (February 11, 2020):-The Pakistan Cricket Board today announced the schedule of Marylebone Cricket Club’s tour of Lahore, Pakistan, which runs from 13-19 February. The MCC will open its weeklong tour, its first in 48 years, with a 20-over match against Lahore Qalandars on 14 February at the Gaddafi Stadium after its arrival in Lahore on 13 February. Action will then shift to Aitchison College where the visitors will play Pakistan Shaheens in a 50-over fixture on 16 February. After it, the MCC will meet Northern and Multan Sultans in 20-over matches on 17 and 19 February. Sports Desk ISLAMABAD (February 10, 2020):-Bangladesh wrote their name on the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup trophy after a rain-affected three-wicket win over previous holders India in Potchefstroom. In what was their first final in the competition’s 22-year history, the Tigers were far from overawed by the occasion, limiting India to just 170 with the bat despite Yashasvi Jaiswal’s swashbuckling 88. And though for a time it looked as though they would fall short in their chase, a captain’s display from Akbar Ali steered home the ship, as his unbeaten 43 carried them to the target despite rain playing its part. In a low-scoring thriller, Bangladesh reached their rain-adjusted target of 170 with 23 balls to spare, as they won a historic maiden title while ending India's unbeaten run in the campaign. India suffered an incredible batting collapse, where they lost the last seven wickets for just 21 runs and were bowled out for 177. Yashasvi Jaiswal (88) and Tilak Varma (38) had top scored, while Avishek Das (three for 40) and Tanzim Hasan Sakib (two for 28) picked up the crucial wickets for Bangladesh. In their chase, Bangladesh lost wickets on a regular interval with Mohammad Hossain (47) and captain Akbar Ali (43 not out) keeping the innings calm as they crossed the winning line for a memorable victory. India's Ravi Bishnoi (four for 30), the tournament leading wicket-taker, once again impressed as he did his utmost to halt Bangladesh’s progress. Skipper and Man of the Match Ali said: "It is all about the hard work that we have put in, in the last two years. I can't thank the coaching enough. When we started this journey we wanted to play in the final and win the trophy, and it is a dream coming true. I can’t describe my feelings right now, I am so happy. “Congratulations to India, who have been brilliant throughout the tournament. It has been good experience for the team, hopefully we can build on this. India captain, Priyam Garg said: “We are disappointed, in terms of planning today we had certain things in place, tried to put it in the right areas and I think overall we did bowl well. By Our Special Correspondent ISLAMABAD (February 9, 2020):-England’s Richard Illingworth will team up with Faisal Khan Afridi as an on-field umpire for the HBL Pakistan Super League 2020 opening match between defending champions Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United at the National Stadium on 20 February. Sri Lanka’s Roshan Mahanama will lead the playing control team for the curtain-raiser that will also include Asif Yaqoob as third umpire and Syed Imtiaz Iqbal as fourth umpire. Illingworth is one of the three foreign umpires who will be involved in the 32-day competition, which will feature 34 matches in Karachi, Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi. Sri Lanka’s Ranmore Martinesz will be in action in the third match at the Gaddafi Stadium between Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans, while Michael Gough’s first of nine matches will also be at the Gaddafi Stadium on 6 March when Karachi Kings and Multan Sultans will go toe to toe. Aleem Dar, three-time ICC Umpire of the Year, will also return to the tournament after missing the 2019 event due to his international commitments. Aleem, at this stage, is scheduled to umpire in 10, 11 and 15 March matches at the Gaddafi Stadium. Aleem will lead a field of 15 umpires who have been selected for the HBL Pakistan Super League 2020. The list includes five new faces in Aslam Bareach, Majid Hussain, Nasir Hussain, Saqib Khan and Syed Imtiaz Iqbal, who will perform fourth umpire responsibilities.
