Commissioner Rawalpindi Satellite Open Squash Tournament starts in Liaquat Baugh

RAWALPINDI:-The 1st Commissioner Satellite Men’s Open Squash Tournament started on Tuesday at Liaquat Baugh Sports Complex Rawalpindi under the banner of Punjab Squash Association. The first two rounds matches have been played on the opening day, as top seed Saeed Abdul claimed an easy win in his first match against Zeeshan Malik 3-0. He finished the match in just 17 minutes with the score-line of 11-1, 11-3 and 11-7.

WSF announces officials for Commonwealth Games 2022

BIRMINGHAM:-The World Squash Federation (WSF) has announced the team of squash referees and other officials for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. Two of squash’s most experienced and respected referees have been designated as Tournament Referees and will be tasked with leading officiating throughout the Games.
For the singles competition, the Tournament Referee will be Wales’ Roy Gingell, while England’s John Massarella will oversee the doubles. Both are prominent referees who are actively involved in World Squash Officiating and in developing the next generation of referees.
WSF President Zena Wooldridge said:
“Every now and again we need reminding how critical referees are to the sport. For Birmingham, we made a conscious decision to work with a smaller team of referees, which we believe will deliver a more effective solution for this and future games, whilst providing a better experience for referees and players.
“Globally, squash is entering a new era, where the role of referees is given greater prominence and more investment to drive a more diverse and high-quality future referee workforce. Birmingham 2022 is an initial stage of that journey and we congratulate those referees who are part of the team.”
Seven Commonwealth nations are represented in the officiating pool. As the home nation, England is the most represented with ten officials, many of whom have come through the Mission 2022 referee development programme, which was established in 2018 with the purpose of creating a younger and more diverse refereeing community.
Andrea Santamaria will referee her first Commonwealth Games:
Commenting on her selection, England’s Andrea Santamaria said: “It’s great to be chosen. Refereeing at the Commonwealth Games is a great privilege; I’m excited to referee at the Games for the first time and am really looking forward to being there.”
England Squash CEO Mark Williams said:
“Congratulations to all these referees. Their selection rewards their commitment over the last four years to improve their refereeing skills and application. They have achieved this despite the impact of Covid on the events programme and the limited opportunities to practice.
“There is no doubt the creation of the Mission 2022 project has led to a line-up of home referees more reflective of the next generation of referees, replacing those loyal referees who has served our sport so well over the last 30 years. Our aim is to ensure British referees feature strongly amongst the world’s best in future. We still have work to do, but the Birmingham 2022 project has been a critical catalyst on that journey and an important part of the sport’s legacy from the Games.”

Commissioner Satellite Open Squash Championship from March 22

RAWALPINDI:-The first Commissioner Satellite Open Squash Championship will start from March 22, 2022 at Liaquat Bagh Sports Complex Rawalpindi. As many as 32 male players from all over the country will participate in the championship.
According to an official, Commissioner Rawalpindi and President Punjab Squash Association Noorul Amin Mengal will inaugurate the championship. 32 players from across the country, including Yar Khan and Haseeb Taj, registered with the Professional Squash Association (PSA) will fight for the top honour in the 4-day fixture.
Karachi Open Squash: Egyptian lads Karim & Youseef set to meet in final

KARACHI:-Duo of Egyptian lads, Karim Abdel Gawad and Youssef Soliman set to meet in the final of Men’s Singles event of the Karachi Open Squash Championship 2022 after beating their respective opponents in the semifinals at DHA Asif Nawaz Squash Complex, Creek Club Karachi.
In the first semifinal, Karim Abdel Gawad outclassed his compatriot Omar Mosaad in straight games 3-0 in just 28 minutes. The final score-line was 11-5, 11-4 and 11-4. However, in the second semifinal Youssef Soliman from also Egypt had to toil hard to overcome Mexican guy 3-1. The final score was 11-2, 11-4, 4-11 and 11-8 and match wasted 44 minutes. Final will be played on Saturday at the same venue.

Karachi Open Squash Championship: Shahjahan Khan thrashes Tayyab Aslam 3-2

ISLAMABAD:-US lad, Shahjahan Khan got rid of Pakistan number one squash player Tayyab Aslam 3-2 in a well-contested five game thriller in the Karachi Open Squash Championship 2022 at Creek Club Squash Courts Karachi on Wednesday. The final score-line was 12-10, 7-11, 12-10, 8-11 and 11-5, as the match wasted 66 minutes.
Championship has reached in the quarterfinal stage, as all foreigner players have confirmed their berth in the top-eight stage of the top international squash showpiece, as the men’s event is pursuing prize money of US$ 50, 000. Besides Tayyab Aslam, Asim Khan and Mohammad Ashab Irfan succumbed under the pressure of high ranking overseas players. Now, rest of championship will be without any Pakistani player.

Karachi Open Squash Championship: Asim Khan and Mohammad Ashab clinch upset triumphs

ISLAMABAD:-Pakistan’s top squash player, Tayyab Aslam, Asim Khan and Mohammad Ashab Irfan Khan have won their matches in the Karachi Open Squash Championship 2022 at Roshan Khan & Jehangir Khan Squash Complex Karachi on Tuesday.
World No 60 guy, Asim Khan came from behind and overpowered World No. 42 3-2 after going down 0-2 and 8-10 at the one stage of the third game that he finished 12-10 and bounced back in the match. He kept the same pressure in the next two games and win in similar style 11-8 and 11-8, as the match wasted 62 minutes. The final score-line was 9-11, 6-11, 12-10, 11-8 and 11-8.
World No. 221 Mohammad Ashab Irfan, who got the entry with wild card, toppled high ranked World No. 48 Spanish lad Bernat Jaume 3-1 with the score-line of 8-11, 11-9, 13-11, 11-7. Pakistan top national & World No. 52 Tayyab Aslam overcame his opponent Yahya Elnawasany World No. 55 3-1 to move next round of prestigious squash fixture of the world. The final score-line was 10-12, 11-9, 11-9 13-11.

Private sector plays vital role in the revival of squash in country: Jahangir Khan

KARACHI:-Pakistan squash legend former World number one Jahangir Khan has said that the efforts made by private sector for revival of squash in Pakistan were laudable as collective efforts could help the country to regain the lost glories in squash at international level.
He expressed these views during a visit to PSF Jahangir Khan Squash Complex at National coaching Centre along with Combaxx Sports CEO Omar Saeed, and Sindh Squash Association President Adnan Asad. Director General PSF Squash Complex Commander (Retd) Mustafa Kamal, Karachi Sports Foundation Chairman Asif Azim, Combaxx Sports GM Zubair Macha and Administrator Squash Complex Mohammad Aamir also accompanied them.
Jahangir Khan said: “We can once again produce world level players by providing up-to-date training in state-of-the-art squash courts to young guys at grass-root level so they can be at par with international players. The construction work is being done in collaboration with American Business Council, and there are four squash courts in the complex, two of which are being laced with back-wall glass shields:, he said, further adding: Qualified coaches provide free training to players at this Complex which is purely aimed at promoting squash talent at grass-root level. The talented squash players who are be selected for training purely on merit basis will also to be given free education, food & nutrition and traveling expenses inside the country to enable them to pay equal attention to education and also pay full concentration on sports”.
Combaxx Sports CEO Omar Saeed said:
Pakistan was dominating in squash like no other country in the world, the domination lasting for the best part of as many as six decades. And for regaining lost glory in squash, Combaxx sports is making all out efforts to extend its full support to PSF and the provincial associations to produce unbeatable players in squash once again, who will international laurels for the country. He said that Combaxx Sports will provide free track suits and kits to players and trainers at this Squash Academy.
Sindh Squash Association President Adnan Asad said:
Cameras are also installed in the squash courts here so that in-camera training will enable the coach to secure images of the players during training to be showed to them later on to pin-point their weakness and drawbacks and to teach them how to rectify the same. ”A gymnasium and one more squash court is also a part of future strategy,” he added. He further added that they would make it a model academy in the country for the production of new talented squash players.
